The most important tip we can tell you without watching the video - bring water and water shoes! Here's exactly how our tour unfolded one a very very crowded day. Hopefully it will give you the information you need to know if you decide to go.
If you do decide to do it - book early - it's popular. Also - if it appears to be sold out, get on a waiting list. You may still be able to do it.
Here's how NCL describes it: Experience the Damajagua waterfalls in every way imaginable with a local guide leading the adventure. A leisurely hike (?) through a jungle-like landscape will bring you to the waterfalls, whose source is the Damajagua River, a cool mountain stream. This breathtaking natural wonder contains numerous cascades of varying heights, and you will reach about a dozen of them. You will jump off some of the waterfalls, negotiate other ones by sliding down slick rock chutes and swim in the sparkling (?) pools at the base of all of them. Wooden walkways and steps connect many of the cascades, allowing you access that would be impossible otherwise. The river is known for its beautiful blue hue (?) as it spills out of the mountains and carves its way through the rocky terrain. While on the Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady, we stopped at Puerto Plata, the new port also called Taino Bay in the Dominican Republic. Puerto Plata/Taino Bay is not that far from the Amber Cove cruise port.
See what it's like so you can decide if you want to try it out. The tour included a coach ride to Damajagua Waterfall area where we picked up our ATV buggy, after driving the ATVs we hiked to the waterfalls and jumped into a series of waterfalls before having lunch.

In this vlog we start off at the Dominican Republic!!! The MSC Seascape docked at Puerto Plata and we went on one of MSC's excursions to Damajagua Waterfalls! It was the best excursion we've ever been on! I hope you enjoy coming along with us! MSC provided a bus over to the falls. We got changed and started the trek up to the falls. We started off by jumping off a 12 foot cliff! You can choose to slides down or jump and we jumped! It was so exhilarating!!! Then you go through numerous natural slides through the cliffs, in the rainforest. It was absolutely amazing! We did a few more jumps and slides, swam through the forest and finished with a big slide. Highly recommend this shore excursion!
I then show you around the new port, Taino Bay, Puerto Plata. It's beautiful! Shops, bars, restaurants, a beach, pool. All free for visitors.
Then come with us to San Juan, Puerto Rico! I show you around all the colourful streets and then we went to the home of Pina Coladas! This is at Barrachina, San Juan. The cocktails were delicious! We grabbed some Puerto Rican coffee and headed back onto the ship!! 2 amazing days, I hope you enjoyed coming along!!!!

Dominican Republic Zipline & 27 Waterfalls Damajagua Amber Cove Carnival Shore Excursion
This video features the waterfall portion of the Carnival Cruise Shore Excursion for “Zipline & 27 Waterfalls Combo” for the Amber Cove port in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic operated by Mega Adventures. See my other video for the Zipline.
If you love adventure this is one of the top 10 things to do in Puerto Plata Dominican Republic.
We booked this excursion through Carnival, however Carnival does not allow any jumping from the falls, only sliding. If you wish to jump from the Damajagua waterfalls you would need to book this excursion on your own. The company that contracted with Carnival was Mega Adventures. They have the excursion listed on their website. They were great and if I visit this port again I would book through them so I could JUMP!
This excursion was great. We boarded mega trucks and on the way to the waterfalls we got to see parts of the Dominican Republic.
It’s important to read all of the details on the excursion. You should make sure the activity level of the excursion is a good fit for you. There is a 45 minute hike up to the falls with some steep sections and some steep stair sections down.
Bring a good pair of water shoes that you can also complete the hike in.
Bring a towel to leave in the bus. I was still wet when we got to the Zipline.
There are lockers there you can rent but our tour guide has us leave all our belongings in the bus with the driver.
Highly recommend this shore excursion!

The Dominican Republic has the best beaches, mountains, lush green jungle, waterfalls, salt lakes, vibrant culture and beautiful colonial towns. It's really worth it to escape from the luxurious hotels and explore the country. With our little family we first settle down on the beach in hotspot Punta Cana, but after that we are road tripping the entire country. From the East we head up North to Samaná. We stay at the best nature resorts, go on a whaling expedition and hike to the most awesome waterfall El Limón. On the country's best beach we are one with nature, at Playa Rincón. After this video you'll see more episodes where we drive along the North Coast to Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi, before we head on South to Salinas, Barahona and the supreme waters of Bahía de las Águilas. Of course we'll also visit the Dominican capital Santo Domingo on the way.
Our trip to the Dominican Republic is part of a great tour along all the Caribbean islands. We'll continue island hopping all the way down to Trinidad and Tobago. First you'll see us cruising around the Dominican Republic for another two weeks. Let’s Party On The Mardi! Welcome to Carnival’s newest ship, Mardi Gras! Mardi Gras’ first sailing was from Port Canaveral on July 31st, 2021 and we were on this sailing to bring you all the new content! Mardi Gras is the first of it's kind, bringing new innovation to both Carnival Cruise Line and the Cruise Industry as a whole! Mardi Gras is Carnival's first mega ship and now the largest in their fleet! It features six uniquely themed zones that will house an array of new restaurants, entertainment, lounges, and activities! Mardi Gras also is honored with the title of the first LNG ship in North America! We are on the first cruise ship (standard revenue sailing) to depart from Port Canaveral since the closure! Today is day five, and the port of call is Amber Cove, Dominican Republic (located in the Puerto Plata area)! We have a real treat today with not one, but TWO amazing excursions! Our day is going to be split between the Damajagua Falls and Monkeyland! So for the first portion of the day, we took a very rigorous hike through the mountains and jungle to reach small waterfalls that we could then slide down! Then we went to Monkeyland where we fed, pet, and were personal jungle gyms for the cutest small monkeys! Today was absolutely incredible, and we highly recommend this excursion for anyone who is physically fit to experience. And, of course, we took part in some onboard activities such as Big Chicken breakfast, Piazza Panini, and the first ever Tiki Party on the Lido deck! Here’s the Amber Cove Waterfalls and Monkeys excursion. Amber Cove is a beautiful place and the highlight of our cruise was the trip to the monkeys. We got to see them up close.
Tim and Felicia climbed a mountain to slide down slippery slopes in some of the most beautiful scenery they've ever witnessed at Amber Cover at Puerto Plato in the Dominican Republic. Afterwards, they were slimed by tiny monkeys. Yikes!

Punta Cana all you can see, Xtreme Buggy, Schau ma mal tours and LatinAtours went on an expedition into the Dominican Countryside to visit the Waterfall Yanigua, of which we just had heard and non of us has ever been.
Baldomar ( you might remember him from the “Excursion into the Flora and Fauna of the Dominican Republic” video) gave me the contact to Simon Duran, the owner of the Rancho Salto Yanigua.
So to start with, it’s only a phone call or WhatsApp away to make a reservation. ( Simon Duran +1 809 543 4468)
From Punta Cana you can take the road to Sabana Del Mar ( we had Lunch there on December 25th “Adventure Dominican Republic, Road Trip to find a waterfall, finding great Guesthouse in Miches”)
From Saban Del Mar you turn away from the Ocean and drive another 12 minutes until you come to El Valle. For the first time, Simón send us a Motochoncho driver to guide us to his Rancho, .. another 20 min. Dirt road.
Coming to the Ranch, Simon welcomed us and showed us around. Explanation for medical plants, cocoa, and everything that you can do there included.
Jürg and I went straight to the Tree House. We had to climb up right away.
The view is unbelievable beautiful. You see all the red African tulip trees from ABOVE, the Vally the mountains. We had some clouds in the morning hanging between the mountains which made it almost mystic. The tree house itself looks self-made, has a glass bottom ( I did not step on it, but Jürg did) a window and you can rent it to spend it a night up in the “Birds Nest”. CRAZY!
For Sissy’s like me, they have also tent’s on solid ground :-)
The Ranch is directly at the Waterfall Yanigua, Water was low when we went, so the Jump was higher. It’s great fun! You learn a lot if you want, or you just have fun in the water. The grey Mud is full of minerals and very healthy for your skin.
Our plan is to go back one day and explore more in the area around there. Simon say’s there are much more waterfalls and he is going to show them to us.
A great place to spend a day or a couple of days if you are traveling Individual with backpack. Lots to explore in this area. As well lot's of fun for people that live here on the Island. It suits our Caribbean, adventurous lifestyle!

Hidden in a lush Dominican Republic jungle, Damajagua Falls—otherwise known as the 27 Waterfalls of Rio Damajagua or 27 Charcos—are a series of 27 cascading waterfalls that were discovered in the 1990s. Located in the midst of sugarcane fields in the Northern Corridor mountain range, the hidden falls are a true off-the-beaten-path experience.
Damajagua or 27 Charcos (Charco translates as pool and refers to the natural swimming pools of the falls) as the locals call it, is one exhilarating eco-adventure not to be missed in the Dominican Republic. Nestled in the rolling hills of the Northern Corridor mountain range and behind the long stalks of sugar cane, lays a treasure you won't find anywhere else in the world.
Your adventure begins outside the main gates of the Amber Cove Cruise Center where you're welcomed and greeted by the friendly staff who will be escorting you on the tour. A narrated, countryside drive will take you to the Damajagua base camp located within a tropical forest. Immersed in the beautiful landscape of the Cordillera Central (mountain range), the Salto de la Damajagua and its 27 lagoons are part of the system of a protected area of the Dominican Republic. This natural monument of the Damajagua River is composed of 27 bodies of water of various sizes.
Puerto Plata’s crown jewel attraction, the 27 Charcos of Damajagua waterfalls offer a day of hiking through thick forest, crossing footbridges, and passing numerous flora before eventually reaching a rocky hilltop where you’ll begin making your way down by jumping or sliding down a series of waterfalls–helmets and safety gear on–as you slide down water-cushioned chutes or jump into deep turquoise pools.

Quick video of our adventures through Damajagua Cascades. There are 27 of these natural rock slides, but we only went to 7 of them. Didn't get to explore the city so much due to time constraint, however we would love to visit Dominican Republic again to explore more. ????????
