10. Frigate Bird Sanctuary
Barbuda's Frigate Bird Sanctuary is a haven for birders. Accessible only by boat, the bird sanctuary lies in Barbuda's northwest lagoon and is home to one of the largest nesting colonies of frigate birds in the Caribbean.

9. Fig Tree Drive
Along Antigua's southern coast, Fig Tree Drive winds through rainforest, farmlands, and fishing villages. This picturesque drive offers a glimpse of local life. Banana trees (called figs by the locals), mango trees, and coconut palms dot the landscape, as well as the ruins of sugar mills.

8. Museum of Antigua and Barbuda
The Museum of Antigua and Barbuda traces the history of these islands from their geological origins to political independence in 1981. Housed in the museum is a full-scale replica of an Arawak dwelling, as well as pottery, weaving, tools, and exhibits on the islands' different ecosystems.

7. Devil's Bridge: Indian Town National Park
Along the rugged northeast coast, the dramatic scenery of Indian Town National Park features the natural limestone Devil's Bridge, sculpted over the centuries by the pounding surf. At high tide, waves force geysers of water through blowholes in the nearby rock.

6. St. John's
St. John's, the capital city and cruise ship port of Antigua and Barbuda, is a kaleidoscope of candy-hued colonial cottages and market stalls piled high with tropical fruits and flowers. Looming above the skyline are the white neo-Baroque towers of St. John's Cathedral, one of the city's most distinctive buildings.

5. Dickenson Bay
In the far north of Antigua, Dickenson Bay is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the island. Fronted by a long stretch of white sand beach lined with resorts and alfresco restaurants, the bay is great for swimming and offers the spectrum of water sports.

4. Nelson's Dockyard National Park
One of Antigua's most popular tourist attractions, Nelson's Dockyard National Park, in English Harbour, is home to Antigua's former 18th-century British Naval Dockyard (inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in July, 2016) as well as restored historic buildings and some of the island's best nature trails.

3. 17 Mile Beach
Those who stroll Barbuda's 17 Mile Beach, will probably never see a more ravishing stretch of sand, nor another footprint. Lapped by pale aqua seas, this stunning stretch of pink-tinged sand separates the Barbuda lagoon from the Caribbean Sea, and pleases even the most jaded beach connoisseurs.

2. Stingray City
If you have a lifelong fear of stingrays, this fun face-to-face adventure a five-minute speedboat ride off the east coast of Antigua, should banish those fears forever.

1. Half Moon Bay
At the southeastern end of Antigua, tranquil Half Moon Bay is fringed by one of the Caribbean's best beaches. Protected by a reef, this idyllic crescent of fine white sand and azure sea, backed by natural foliage, offers excellent snorkeling on calm days.

The Real Antigua And Barbuda | Antigua Island Safari Tour | Caribbean Travel Vlog

Antigua and Barbuda have had a pretty rough past! Known for their Caribbean beauty, this Island Safari Tour showed us the real...⬇ More Below ✈ Our 220 page guide on how to travel non-stop —

Antigua and Barbuda have sadly both experienced some tough circumstances over the years, but these little Caribbean beauties continue to pull tourists to the amazing beaches, food and people each year. We decided to take an island safari tour around Antigua to get a real feel for what Antigua is like outside of the tourist resorts.

Barbuda wasn't on our itinerary this time, but hopefully on our next visit to the Caribbean we will get the chance to also tour around Barbuda safari style to scope out how the island is/has recovered.

Thats a wrap on our Caribbean travel vlogs, this time in Antigua has been exactly what we needed... an eye opening experience, a luxury state and a chilled vibe. We've got nothing but love for the island and everyone we had the pleasure of meeting.

antigua island travel best places to visit waladli

Antigua top 10 facts Nelson's Dockyard
Just 3 hours from Miami and 8 from London is Antigua, the largest island in the nation of Antigua and Barbuda.

Antigua’s capital is St. John’s, a port town of plantation shutters, iron roofs and colors as bright as our spirit. Mix up a little history and shopping down by the city’s quays, where old shop houses have been given new life as cafes, bars and duty-free boutiques.

Take a break from the noonday sun in the shade of the old Courthouse, now the home of the national museum. Then, spend a lazy afternoon walking the ramparts of the harbor’s fortifications.

Just to the north of St. John’s, you’ll find Runaway Beach and Dickenson Bay, home to some of the purest sands and finest resorts in the West Indies.

On the island’s eastern side, visit the historic sugar plantation, Betty’s Hope. A few miles east, feel the power of nature at Devil’s Bridge, a natural arch carved by Atlantic waves.

Let the breeze carry you further around the Island, to beauty spots like Half Moon Bay and Mamora Bay, then drop anchor for a while at English Harbor.

From English Harbor back to St. John’s, it’s just one perfect beach after another. Some say there are 365 beaches in Antigua, one for each day of the year. But you won’t see them all, don’t even try. Just take it easy, because the slower you move, the better you’ll feel and Antigua is all about feeling good. good travel conditions perfect beaches and weather. Anigua Beach is great resort to watch sunrise and sunset

Antigua Travel Guide | Visiting During Antigua Sailing Week Video Transcript:

In today’s video, we’re taking you to a little island in the Caribbean: Antigua!

It had been a few years since we last travelled to the Caribbean, so to say we were excited was an understatement! AND because our visit also happened to coincide with Antigua Sailing Week, there was quite literally even more reason to celebrate.

So in this video we’re going to show you some fun things to do in Antigua and taking you along to some of Sailing Week related activities.

Antigua Sailing Week started back in 1968 when a group of friends decided to hold a regatta. Because quite a few in the group worked in the tourism industry, the objective of the regatta was to extend the winter season by getting people to stay on the island just a little bit longer. And well, today it’s become one of the biggest events of the year!

And because the Sailing Week celebrations were happening, we also got to enjoy Reggae in the Park featuring international artists.

It’s no secret that we love to eat, so we were very excited to learn how to prepare a few Caribbean dishes - all of them featuring rum.

And in between all the cooking, there was also time for a rum tasting, which was a pleasant surprise!

The meal turned out wonderful and we really enjoyed getting to share it with other travellers. We had seconds, thirds, and then it was time for a mouthwatering cake!

And last but least, we made some time to visit the capital of Antigua: St John’s.

Initially, our plan had been to try and find some Caribbean food in town, but everyone kept suggesting Big Banana, so that’s where we ended up.

And that’s a wrap for Antigua!

We hope you guys enjoyed exploring this Caribbean island with us, and be sure to let us know what island you’d like to see us explore next!

Wishing you happy travels and see you in the next video.

This is part of our Travel in Antigua and Barbuda video series showcasing Antigua food, Antigua culture and Antigua cuisine.

Top 5 pictures to inspire a trip to Antigua and Barbuda

There are two tiny Islands in the heart of the Caribbean virtually untouched by modern day tourism. Antigua and Barbuda may be separate islands, but both offer pure relaxation to anyone desperate to escape the dreary mornings trudging to work in a grey suit, or those tired of the unpredictable weather and crowded commutes.

Exploring Antigua is a glimpse into a complex past, as many used the island as a tropical sanctuary, including Admiral Nelson. If your aim from a Caribbean holiday is to unwind on a blissful, sandy beach letting the sun warm your bones, Antigua is the perfect place. It boasts of a coastline, which looks as though it has been plucked from a post card, see for yourself the natural beauty of the Half Moon Bay or Dickenson Bay.

Barbuda is one long strip of pink coast-line and the perfect place to indulge your inner bird spotter. The red breasted frigate bird outnumbers the locals and can be found gliding through the air, hunting food by day and at night they’re nestled in the cliffs for a good night’s sleep.

St Barnabas Anglican Church

Dotted across the island of Antigua are many churches of all shapes and sizes, but the St Barbican Anglican church in Liberta is a vibrant building with a unique design, which gives it one-of-a-kind style you won’t find anywhere else on the island. The church is devoted to the apostle Saint Barnabas, who is one of the earliest seafaring saints. It’s one of the oldest existing structures on the island and the perfect place to gain an understanding of Antigua’s harrowing past.

English Harbour in Antigua

In the south of the Island of Antigua is the ‘English Harbour’ a sheltered deep-water harbour, that was once home to Nelson’s Dockyard, a former British naval base. It’s the perfect place to truly understand daily life on the island and the laid-back atmosphere is just what you need for a relaxing stroll to look at the boats.

Twilight at St Johns landscape

St John’s is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda. The bustling city is littered with colourful buildings and stylish boutiques, selling designer clothes and jewellery. It became the seat of Government when the Islands gained their independence in 1981.

Barbuda's pink shells

The blissful island of Barbuda is famed for its pink-tinged beaches, because of the tiny shells that litter the sand. This is the perfect place to escape from all humanity, the island is 62 square meters and has an estimated 1,500 residents. Just what you need to enjoy these vibrant pink shells and tropical beaches, without having to fight your way through hordes of selfie-taking tourists.

Antigua landscape

Antigua is a quiet Island with very little metropolitan life. It may take you a long drive to find what you’re looking for, but the distinct lack of people and an unspoilt landscape is one of the things that appeals to many curious travellers.
