Climate change has never felt more real to my eyes until I arrived here in KIRIBATI - an island nation in the Central Pacific Ocean.

The rising sea levels are quickly shrinking this country, which has a peak altitude of 3 meters. It's projected to be entirely underwater by the year 2100.

While many countries are feeling the impacts of climate change, nobody is more threatened right now than the 100,000+ residents of Kiribati.

The question now becomes, how do we prevent the people here from becoming climate refugees? The only 4 options I can think of are the following:

1. Build a higher sea wall (which will cost billions of USD)
2. Buy land overseas for them to relocate (will also cost a fortune)
3. Send more Kiribati citizens abroad (i.e. Australia and New Zealand) for jobs, and they can slowly adapt to a new life
4. Boost tourism in Kiribati so people can see first hand the affects of climate change, which will also pump money back in to the economy

Would love to get your thoughts on what we can do to help the wonderful people of Kiribati. I encourage you all to get creative and share your best solutions below. I will be reading and responding to as many comments as I can, and I encourage you to do the same. This is important.

SAIPAN: THE 'T Galleria' shopping mall ????️???? (Northern Mariana Islands, Pacific Ocean)

Subscribe: - Let's go for a walk inside this small but luxurious shopping mall located in the beautiful city of Garapan of Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands in the Western Pacific Ocean.
This location has every high end store you could dream of walking through. I have no idea why you would go to Saipan to do that type of shopping, BUT, if you just wanted to be able to say you bought your $1000 Gucci boots in Saipan, then by all means, go right ahead. The merchandise was exquisite I must admit. Tiffany, as well as, Prada, Loews, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, etc. The Galleria is a great place to escape the humidity and live the dream if only for a fleeting moment. Enjoy!

Saipan of the Northern Mariana Islands: Part of the USA Most Americans Aren't Aware of

Went to Saipan for 4 days this past Memorial Weekend. It's the island that saw a lot of action during WWII between the Japanese and Americans. It was interesting to see the remaining weaponry, tanks, and buildings strewn all over the island of that time, particularly, unprotected.

This is a vlog from my recent trip back to Saipan- my home. It has been 3 years since I visited home, and I will never let it take that long for me to go back again. It was Jamie's first time seeing the island and he fell in love with it. We were originally only supposed to be there for two weeks, but I extended my trip for two extra weeks to really BE back home and spend time with my family. Hope you guys enjoy this vlog as much as I do. This place really is the most beautiful place you've never heard of.

What to do and see at SAIPAN'S LAU LAU BAY BEACH | Northern Mariana Islands

If you're looking for a beach with plenty of shade, unique history tucked away and a bit less traffic, Lau Lau Beach on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands is the perfect place for a long beach day.

Lau Lau is one of our favorite beaches to visit because it's a little less traveled and always has something new to explore. From the old military structures to caves to the many sea creatures, Lau Lau Bay is a place you could spend the entire day from sunrise to sunset.

It seems to be a bit more of a local's beach without many tourists. You'll see a lot of locals fishing or diving in this area. The water is calm and well protected thanks to the reef.

You won't find the super soft, white sand beaches at Lau Lau like you might at some of Saipan's other beaches. There's a bit more coral and rock, but that makes it a great beach to find shells and neat coral pieces that have washed ashore.

Take a look at the natural beauty of Lau Lau Bay and its long stretch of beach.

In case you're new here:
Hi! We're Brad and Nadine. We moved to Saipan in early 2020 from the snowy Midwest. We love this little island that we get to call home, and we look forward to exploring more places around the island.

If you have any questions about living in Saipan (a U.S. Territory) or places to visit in Saipan, let us know! We'd love to hear from you :)

Tourism has traditionally been a vital source of the island's revenue and economic activities. In years past, one of the main economic driving forces in Saipan was garment manufacturing. The USA agreed that the CNMI would be exempted from certain federal laws, including some concerning labor and immigration. One result was an increase in hotels and tourism. However, dozens of garment factories also opened; clothing manufacture became the island's chief economic force, employing thousands of foreign contract laborers while labeling their goods made in the U.S.A. and supplying the U.S. market with low cost garments exempt from U.S. tariffs. The working conditions and treatment experienced by employees in these factories were the subject of controversy and criticism.[16]
As of March 2007,[17] 19 companies manufactured garments on Saipan. In addition to many foreign-owned and run companies, many well-known U.S. brands also operated garment factories in Saipan for much of the last three decades. Brands included Gap (as of 2000 operating six[18] factories there), Levi Strauss,[19] Phillips-Van Heusen,[20] Abercrombie & Fitch,[21] L'Oreal subsidiary Ralph Lauren (Polo),[22] Lord & Taylor,[23] Tommy Hilfiger, and Walmart.[24]
Currently, there are no garment manufacturers on the island, with the last one having closed on January 15, 2009.[25] On November 28, 2009, the federal government took control of immigration to the Northern Mariana Islands.[26]
