10 kuala selangor

This historical town is located on the northwestern side of Selangor, and is approximately 70 kilometres from Kuala Lumpur. KS was the first state capital of Selangor.
Situated in the town centre, Melawati Hill is a historical hill dotted with several unique landmarks, such as the Altingsburg Lighthouse. Built in the 18th century.
This attraction had recently went viral and tours are plentiful but do book ahead.

9 Balik Pulau

Balik Pulau literally means the other side of the island in which the town is situated on the island of Penang. Life takes on a slower pace and quieter approach.
If you are looking for a more laid-back place and want to get closer to untouched nature, away from crowded tourist trap, head here.

8 Teluk Intan

Teluk Intan is the third largest town in Perak and only 2 hours drive north of KL.
The Leaning Tower of Teluk Intan, Malaysia's version of the Leaning Tower of Pisa! Built in 1885 for the purpose of storing water during the drought season, the tower is slanted leftward due to the underground stream 4 years after construction.
Do take the Pulau Bangau Bird Sanctuary river cruise. you will b cruising along the Perak river explore its rich wetlands habitat and experience the stunning views of thousands of resident and migratory birds, returning during dusk and roosting on the island.

#7 Sekinchan

Nestled in of north of Selangor, Sekinchan is a tranquil fishing village located an easy 1.5-hour drive from KL. Sekinchan is well known amongst us Malaysian to have the most productive rice harvest in the country due to its soil and rainfall.

For this spot I am flying you all the way to East Malaysia, Sabah.
Quiet and peaceful Kundasang is located in the Ranau District three hours drive from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu. Situated at the foot of the majestic Mount Kinabalu a UNESCO World Heritage site, It is relatively untouched by conventional tourism.
Rolling green hills, blue skies, white fluffy clouds, cool climate, this town is full of campsites hiking trails for those who love the outdoor.

5. kota Bahru

Kota Bharu, Malaysia’s northernmost major city in the state of Kelantan, can often just be a blip on traveller’s radars.
This is a shame as there are plenty of activities in Kota Bharu as it is the cradle of Malay culture.
Speaking of shopping, you can do plenty of that at Kota Bharu’s Central Market—the Siti Khadijah Market (Pasar Siti Khadijah). A bustling hive of constant activity, the Central Market is a multi-storey traditional market where locals gather looking for fresh produce.
The city is just 50 km from the Thai border and has a large Thai population. Visit the famous three buddhas of Kota Bharu , the sitting Buddha, the standing buddha and the sleeping Buddha to experience the Thai culture and not to mention authentic Thai food.

4 Muar
Muar is a historical town situated almost in the middle between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore
Muar is rich in history as mentioned in many historical records and archaeological works. It is believed that the history of Muar started much earlier than the Sultanate of Malacca. There were many accounts recorded about the early history of Muar. In 1361, it was claimed that Muar was a part of the Majapahit empire.
One interesting little riverine adventure you can actually take in Muar would be the half an hour-long Muar River Cruise that departs from the Tanjung Emas park, offering both locals and also curious tourists a little tour of Muar town along the river. The cruise operate Friday to Sunday.

3 Kluang

We are staying in Johor for our no. 3 spot, in fact the middle of Johor for the town of Kluang. Get ready as this town is probably the most yummy in my list.
Avid foodies beware; Kluang could show you incredible food that you’ve been craving for a long time. Ranging from local delights to western cuisines, there’s an unlimited list of scrumptious you can find in Kluang.

2 Sandakan

Sandakan is the second biggest city in the state of Sabah The city had been the state capital until 1946 when it was switched to Kota Kinabalu.
The main reason to come to Sandakan is to check out the abundance of gorgeous rainforests, and anyone who loves wildlife should make sure not to give it a miss. Just some of the spots that you can visit as part of a trip to Sandakan include amazing rainforest walkways, this is one of the most unspoiled parts of Borneo.

Top 10 Places in PENANG Malaysia - Highlights / Best things to do [Travel Guide]

I came to Penang on 3 separate visits and got to see most of the important places on the entire Island. Thus, it was time for me to provide you my Top 10 list of the best places that have to be on your itinery when you are planning you next visit. Penang has very well preserved much of its history; it can be seen as what Singapore used to be in 1960. The entire old city of Georgetown has been granted world heritage status by UNESCO, which ensures its preservation for the future. Penang has many beautiful museums, beaches, temples, mosques and churches that are worth to be visited. In addition, Penang is a real paradise for foodie travelers. Its local cuisine ranks among the best in the world. All in all, Penang provides you quite a good mix between sightseeing and chillout time.
Very nice to visit is the Goddess of Mercy temple with its many chinese lanterns. You will be meeting many locals who come here for prayers. Allover Penang, there are plenty of chinese temples, this has much to do with the chinese Malaysians forming the majority over there. A bit outside of Georgetown would be the Shamrock beach with its unique rocks. It's a very quiet spot that can be easily enjoyed alone. 15 minutes by walk would be the floating mosque, a major islamic place of worship on Penang island. It nicely blends into the local fishing village. The snake temple is another highlight of Penang. It's a very unique chinese temple that hosts plenty of snakes. They are all harmless! The Burmese Buddhist temple is a hidden gem of Penang. It shows the diversity among its local Buddhist community but also marks a unique piece of heritage. Go up to the pagoda and enjoy a beautiful vista over the temple complex! Just on the other side of the street would be the Thai buddhist temple, which charms with its glittering dragons. The Batu Ferringhi Beach is one of Penang's most beautiful beaches. Its great to visit during any time of the day; best however are early morning and late afternoon. The many clan jetties (UNESCO World Heritage) are very interesting floating settlements of the local chinese people. There you can shop at boutiques or enjoy the local delicassies. Furthermore, each jetty has a beautiful view over the local village. Visit all of them! The blue mansion is one of the major pieces of Heritage in Penang. It's a museum, which used to once serve as the embassy of the chinese empire. It's a hotel and has even been featured in Crazy Rich Asian Hollywood movie! Make sure to book your tour to get access to the Blue Mansion. The Peranakan Mansion (Green Mansion) is a museum at where you can learn about the rich lifestyle and culture of the Peranakans. The Peranakans are the offspring of Chinese traders and local Malays/Natives. Their culture is a beautiful blend of chinese and malay/aslian; religionwise they follow the Chinese. Armenian street is the touristy centre of Georgetown. Every weekend up from 4pm there is a street market, which is very enjoyable! Make sure to visit Penang during the 7th and 8th day after chinese new year. There will be many celebrations including dragon and lion dance as well as other cultural performances! The very highlight is the Kek Lok Si Temple dedicated to the Goddess of mercy. It's the largest chinese buddhist temple in Southeast Asia. Visit it during chinese new year to see the many lanterns.

A few useful tips for people who only stay 2-3 days in Penang:
Places like the national park and Penang Hill require quite some time to visit and should rather be skipped for short visits. However, if you stay longer, it is a great idea to include them. Traveling in Penang was for me the most convenient using Grab Taxi, as it was cheap and highly efficient.
How to reach Penang: Fly from Kuala Lumpur (Firefly/Airasia), Singapore (Scoot/Airasia) or Bangkok (Airasia):

Travel Guide for Penang during CHINESE NEW YEAR:

Information about the Tourism in Penang:

Otherwise there are buses from Kuala Lumpur to Penang, which offer a much cheaper option.
