Benin Tourist Attractions Best Places To Visit In Benin Republic

Benin Tourist Attractions Best Places To Visit In Benin Republic
Benin played a key role in the development of the African slave trade and was also the birthplace of the voodoo arts. These two ingredients are just a small part of the recipe that makes the complex and rich history of the African nation.

The nation is relatively small and has only a few large cities but Benin begs to be explores and rewards travellers with museums, wonderful architecture and markets that are truly memorable.

The national beauty of Benin also has a lot to tempt tourists. From the paradise Atlantic beaches fringed with palm trees to the national parks teeming with exotic beasts such as lions, cheetahs and elephants as well as rare bird species.

1 Cotonou
It may not be the true capital city of Benin but Cotonou sure does feel like it. The city is an intense blast of urban energy combined with African charm. If it is your first time in Africa, the city can be a little bit daunting and full on but for those willing to risk the adventure, Cotonou has plenty of rewards These rewards include a number of stunning paradise beaches with golden sand and palm trees. The Pendjari National Park is also a must see in Cotonou and is seen as one of the leading animal reserves in Africa.
2 Ouidah Museum of History
Ouidah is a city that has a mix of influence from the French and the Portuguese due to various events in history. The city is located about 40km away from Cotonou and in contrast is more relaxed. If you are interested in African history (and you should be) then this city should be top of your itinerary. It has fantastic museums exploring slavery and voodoo. If all the history gets too much for you, there are more stunning beaches to laze on in Ouidah too.
3 Abomey
Abomey was the capital of Ancient Dahomey for around 300 years starting in the 17th Century. The main attraction and reason for visiting the city is the Unesco World Heritage Site of the Abomey Royal Palaces. Although the palaces have largely been destroyed and are in a ruinous state, the site still has enormous historical value and the tales of kings that once resided here are fascinating.
4 Porto Novo
Porto Novo is the capital city of Benin and former French capital of Dahomey. If you have visited Cotonou first, you will probably struggle to understand why Porto Novo is the official capital city, the population is only around 250,000 and the pace is much more leisurely than Cotono. The influence of the Portugeuse in this area are still clear to see in the present day. Sights in the city include the Royal Palace and gardens as well as the museum of Porto Novo kings.
5 Grand-Popo
The town of Grand-Popo has an intriguing history mainly due to the important role it played in the slave trade. The town oozes with African charm and the people are friendly. The town is about an hours drive from Cotonou and offers a perfect change of pace from the busy city. There are many backside hotels and resorts in the town and the beaches are a great place to relax and swim. The nearby Mono River is a great place to walk and offers a chance to see mangroves and exotic bird life.

Tourism in Nigeria - 4 places to visit in Nigeria -

Nigeria is a vast country with a population of about 140 people covering about 923,768 sq.km of landmass, located wholly within the tropics. The country aptly described as the 'Giant of Africa' and the Heart of Africa is richly endowed with ecological and cultural resources, which are of universal recognition. The richness and diversity of the Nigeria culture is a manifestation of the socio-cultural differences of the over 250 ethnic groups that inhabit the land for ages.

Tourism is one of the growing sectors of the Nigerian economy. The industry was accorded priority status in 1990 when the National Tourism Policy was launched. The main thrust of Government policy on tourism was to generate foreign exchange earnings, create employment opportunities, promote rural enterprises and national integration, among other things.

In recognition of the immense contributions of tourism to the national economy, the country's Vision 2010 set year 2005 as the nation's year of tourism. The obvious implication of this development is that tourism policies and programmes will now be aimed at making Nigeria the Ultimate Tourism Destination in Africa.

10 Things NOT to Do in Israel

Get more Tips here!

There’s no shortage of amazing things to do in this quaint country. You probably have your itinerary mapped out. But if you really want to make your stay enjoyable, you can’t ignore this 10 things NOT to do when visiting this sacred country.

1. Don’t Smoke on Saturday
Israel has been constructing its anti-smoking ban, so visitors should adhere to no-smoking signs and refrain from lighting up on Shabbat. If you must smoke, do it in private and far away from an Orthodox Jew who may find your smoking habit offensive.

2. Don’t Eat Without Tipping
In Israel, the waitstaff at restaurants and cafés don’t receive a salary, so they solely rely on the tips from generous patrons. Most customers don’t leave without plopping down at least a 10% tip before heading for the exit.

3. Don’t Skip the Flea Market in Jaffa
Located in the southernmost part of Tel Aviv, the port city of Jaffa has biblical and mythological roots. The flea market opens six days a week, and vendors sell everything, from antiques to handmade items. Don't miss these picturesque streets

4. Don’t Forget Orthodox Jewish Laws
Orthodox Jews follow strict religious and social laws such as Negiah (restricting physical contact between those of the opposite sex). They will keep a healthy distance between you if you’re of the opposite gender to avoid accidental contact.

5. Don’t Shave Before Entering the Dead Sea
This Sea is loaded with mineral-rich mud and high salt content, relieving certain skin issues, from acne to eczema and psoriasis. But don't shave or wax your body for at least 2 to 3 days prior. The salt content will wreak havoc on the sensitive areas, leaving you with a burning, tingling feeling. Ouch.

6. Don’t Expect to Eat a Light Breakfast
It’s customary to enjoy a really heavy breakfast, whether you’re in a tiny café or one of the country’s many restaurants. On the menu, you’ll typically find pastries, bread, salads, eggs, meat, fruits, juice, coffee, and tea. And by the time you finish your spread, it will be time for lunch!

7. Don’t Ignore the Memorial Day Siren
If you happen to visit on April 17-18 for Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day), or on April 11-12 for Holocaust Remembrance Day, you’ll hear sirens ring throughout the country. When it stops, each person must stand up straight, and pay respect to those who’ve lost their lives. So, please, don’t ignore the sound.

8. Don’t Forget to Head Out to the Desert
The Negev – also known as the desert region of Israel – is loaded with natural wonders. Timna Park is home to acacia trees, herds of wild ibex, a souvenir shop, and overnight campgrounds. If you want to take a break, a desert excursion is just what the doctor ordered.

9. Don’t Be Afraid to Haggle
Israel is full of different bazaars and markets. In Old City of Jerusalem, prices are typically marked up, but don’t be afraid to haggle. Most sellers expect shoppers to bargain with them, especially tourists from Western countries.

10. Don’t forget to visit the Sea of Galilee
If you’re the type of tourist who loves staying active even when you’re away from home, this Middle Eastern country was made for you. The Sea of Galilee is full of attractions, including the hot pools near Tiberias, hiking trails, and swimming in the freshwater lake.

Where do you want to know what not to do in next?

At the State level, the Head of the executive is called the Governor, who has the power to appoint people to the State Executive Council, subject to the advice and consent of the State House of Assembly (Legislature). The Head of a ministry at the State level is called a commissioner, who is assisted by a permanent secretary, who is also a senior civil servant of the State.
