7 Days in Slovenia
Welcome to Slovenia. This small country (the size of New Jersey) sits between Italy, Austria, and Croatia, and as you’ll see, is one of Europe’s raddest places to travel. We gave ourselves a week. Starting off in Lake Bled, we swam in one of the most postcard looking lakes you’ve ever seen before heading off to sail in the Adriatic. From here we explored the Soča Valley — a region with turquoise blue rivers and limitless adventure options. Farm to table food and family-run wineries are a way of life in Slovenia, and we were stoked to spend time with world famous chef Ana RoŠ from HiŠa Franko restaurant as well as Aleš Kristančič, the storied winemaker of Movia vineyards. Don’t overlook this country when thinking of your next travels to Europe.

Step into the narrow streets of the town center, where instead of traffic you’ll hear bicycle bells, and instead of gridlock you’ll find riverbanks lined with cafes, pubs and historic architecture.
Ride the funicular to Ljubljana Castle, a beloved landmark that has been standing above the city for more than 900 years. Then head toPreseren Square, named after France Preseren, whose poem “A Toast” became the country’s national anthem.
Stroll to nearbyCongress Squareand Park Zvezda. From here, you can see theUniversity of Ljubljana, one of the largest places of learning in Europe.
Visit the Slovene Philharmonic Orchestra building, one of the world’s oldest musical institutions with famous connections to composers such as Beethoven and Brahms.
Cross the Dragon Bridge, famous for its fearsome dragon statues, who’s tails are said to twitch when a pure and untouched maiden is nearby.
Pick up a free bicycle rental and follow the Jokopic Promenade to the Tivoli Castle and check out the print collection at the International Centre of Graphic Arts.
Immerse yourself in art of a different kind in the Metelkova Mesto, a funky cultural zone, which hosts more than 1500 events each year.
Ljubljana may have taken a dragon as its symbol but unlike that mythical beast, this city is welcoming, warm and delighted to share its treasures with visitors.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Slovenia Travel Guide | Must Do Travels

Slovenia is a tiny European country located just North East of the Italian border, along the Juliann Alps. For centuries this region was the meeting place of the Italian and Germanic people, and the country’s architecture, culture, and cuisine shows a blend of both influences on the local Slavic people.
This laid-back country is completely unassuming, and really should be appreciated for not trying too hard to be anything at all. Slovenia is simply Slovenia, and that’s just it. It represents a slower and more relaxed way of life, which is something to really cherish on a vacation in this day and age. The whole country is dotted with tiny European farm towns, with their fresh markets, churches, and plenty of stunning views of the great outdoors.
If you are looking for a more affordable alternative to experiencing the grandeur and peacefulness of the Alps without having to break the bank on a long stay in Switzerland, Slovenia is your natural choice. The cost for lodging and meals will be somewhat comparable to the average cost of staying in any small American town, to give you a point of reference. The country actually doesn’t experience a significant amount of tourism, as most Europeans and other foreigners tend to gravitate more towards the sandy beaches of neighboring Croatia instead. This makes Slovenia a less crowded destination without a lot of the daily pressures that come from being in booming tourist towns. Most tourists actually just come from neighboring countries, who are more familiar with what Slovenia has to offer.
Most popular activities in Slovenia involve being active outdoors, such as hiking, rowing, biking, and other sports.
Slovenia’s capital city Lubljana (Lube Lee Anna) is its largest by far, but is still only home to about 275,000 people. The city demonstrates an architectural style that is a blend of Venetian and Austrian, and reflects the neo-classical architectural style that was very popular in Europe during the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. The city’s style and it’s canals were even somewhat reminiscent to us of central Paris too.
One of the most iconic landmarks in Slovenia is Lake Bled, which is a large calm lake in the northwest of the country, and easily recognizable for its tiny island featuring the Church of the Assumption. This lake is a favorite place for Slavs to come to and relax, and a place they are often proud to bring guests and family members visiting the country.
Nearby you will find Slovenia’s tallest peak, Mount Triglav, hiking which is said to make you a true Slovenian..though we’re not sure that holds true for tourists. The perpetual snow melt of the Juliann Alps around Mount Triglav feeds into the Soca (socha) River, which is another iconic feature of the Slovenian landscape. The river cuts through a mostly limestone path, and is prized for its naturally beautiful turquoise waters.
Stay tuned to the Must Do Travels Show for more upcoming adventures. Be sure to follow us, and give this video a like if you enjoy seeing videos about great destinations from all around the world.

10 Things to do in Ljubljana, Slovenia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Prešeren Square is a central meeting spot in the heart of the Old Town, so it made sense to start our tour of Ljubljana here. You’ll find the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation, lots of gelato shops, and the baffling bridge we just mentioned.
As for the reasoning behind the Triple Bridge and the famed dragon bridge, which is guarded by four dragons.
Ljubljana’s Central Market is another spot worth checking out.
We needed to sample some Slovenian food so we went to Allegria.
Sam ordered Zlikrofi (zhlee-krofi), a Slovenian dumpling stuffed with potato + lamb goulash along with Slovenian sausage with cabbage & potatoes.
Ljubljana Castle, which sits on Castle Hill overlooking the city. Built as a medieval fortress in the 11th century, Ljubljana Castle has seen many redesigns and renovations. Climb the Outlook Tower for 360 degree views of the city.
There are departures for cruises down the Ljubljanica. We boarded a cruise directly underneath the Love Lock Bridge, which is actually called Mesarski Most. It was our favourite activity in Ljubljana and it was a super relaxed way to watch the city.
Metelkova is home to the best street art.
One place we really enjoyed was Sarajevo 84, a restaurant specializing in Balkan cuisine. The portions massive & everything we ordered was delicious.
We had a feast featuring: grilled meat with pita and onions, baked beans and sausage, roasted peppers, and a flaky pastry stuffed with cheese. It only came to 23 Euros.
Speaking of galleries and museums, a few you’ll find include: the National Gallery, the Museum of Modern Art, and the National Museum of Slovenia.
We finished off at Tivoli, which is the largest park in Ljubljana.
And that’s it for our time in Ljubljana. Our visit was short, tasty, and relaxing, and we’re really glad we made some time to visit this underrated capital.
Now you guys know the drill; if there are any other things to do in Ljubljana that we may have missed in this travel guide, feel free to share your suggestions with fellow travellers below.
This is part of our Travel in Slovenia video series showcasing Slovenian food, Slovenian culture and Slovenian cuisine.

SUBSCRIBE: - Let's visit Ljubljana which is the capital and largest city of Slovenia. It has been the cultural, educational, economic, political, and administrative center of independent Slovenia since 1991.
We will go around the centre of the old town, for a whole day, and we are going to visit the most important sites including the castle located on a hill overlooking the whole city.
Slovenia, a country in Central Europe, is known for its mountains, ski resorts and lakes. On Lake Bled, a glacial lake fed by hot springs, the town of Bled contains a church-topped islet and a cliffside medieval castle. In Ljubljana, Slovenia’s capital, baroque facades mix with the 20th-century architecture of native Jože Plečnik, whose iconic Tromostovje (Triple Bridge) spans the tightly curving Ljubljanica River.
