Today's tour is in Marburg, Germany. Marburg is, quite literally, a fairy-tale town. The Brothers Grimm studied here from 1802-06, and were so enchanted by the town’s medieval flair, cobbled alleys, stunning architecture and lush countryside, that they weaved elements of this town in their famous fairy tales. Painter Otto Ubbelohde also drew inspiration from this town while working on his illustrations for the Grimm fairy tales. Marburg is an important stop in Germany’s Fairy Tale Route, and offers several faity-tale-themed tours to visitors.

And everything you will see today is because of the humanity of the people who negotiated and saved it on the 29th of March 1945. This town has the most incredible sights to see. It´s a treasure trove for people who are interested in German history and culture.

A Quick Trip to Friedberg, Germany
In this video I share some of the highlights of my quick trip to Friedberg, Germany.
Friedberg is a small town in Germany 25-kilometers away from Frankfurt am Main.
I visited Friedberg during the middle of August and it was surprisingly quiet. There were hardly any tourists around and my girlfriend that I had the town to ourselves to explore.
After an hour there wasn't much else to do in Friedberg so we continued on with the rest of our Central European and German road trip.

The Medieval Town of Marburg Germany
On this episode of Searching for History, we take a look at some video footage and photographs from a 2015 trip to Germany. In this video we visit the old town of Marburg, Germany. Marburg is a university town in the German state of Hesse, located next to the River Lahn, about 60 miles north of Frankfurt. Originally, Marburg served as the capital of the landgraviate of Hessen-Marburg since 1222. The town developed at the crossroads of two important trade routes, linking Cologne to Prague and the North Sea to the Alps. The town originated in the early 9th century. Join us as we stroll through Marburg’s old town and we walk up to the Lutheran parish church (Saint Mary's Church) and Marburg’s castle, the Landgrafenschloss.

Gießen is a university in the Landkreis Giessen in Mittelhessen and with 90,131 inhabitants (31 December 2020) the largest city of Hesse and one of the State Statistics Offices of the Landes. As the seat of the Gießen district and the regional district, it is the Mittelhessens administrative center, a local traffic police station and a regional center.
Within a kilometer west of Wetzlar in the Lahn-Dill district, the city has an agglomeration room with about 200,000 inhabitants, in the vicinity of the region comes to approx. 275,000 entrants. In other directions, the city of Marburg (Landkreis Marburg-Biedenkopf) is located, Fulda (Landkreis Fulda) is located in the Vogelsbergs, Siegen (Kreis Siegen-Wittgenstein) in Southwestfalen, Friedberg (Hessen) and Bad Nauheim in Bad Limburg. Wetzlar is a city in the state of Hesse, Germany. A former free imperial city, it gained much of its fame as the seat of the Imperial Supreme Court (Reichskammergericht) of the Holy Roman Empire. Located 51 kilometers north of Frankfurt, Wetzlar straddles the river Lahn and is on the German Timber-Frame Road, which passes mile upon mile of half-timbered houses. Historically, the city has acted as the hub of the Lahn-Dill-Kreis on the north edge of the Taunus. Tourists know the city for its ancient town and its medieval Catholic/Protestant shared cathedral of St. Mary.
Notable architectural features include the Eisenmarkt and the steep gradients and tightly-packed street layout of a medieval town. The building of the sandstone cathedral commenced in the 12th century in Romanesque style. In the later Middle Ages the construction continued under a master plan in Gothic style. The church was never finished—one steeple still remains uncompleted. The cathedral suffered heavy damage in the Second World War from aerial bombing, but restoration took place in the 1950s. On the outskirts of town along the river stand the ruins of several stone towers.

Pakistan with the assistance of Japan (country) has recently completed the Asia's Second Largest Steel Bridge in Fort Munro (Dera Ghazi Khan) Pakistan in 2020. This bridge is constructed in Girdu Section of Suleman Range near Dera Ghazi Khan. It covers 1.5 km trough 8 hanging steel bridge structures. This project was named as Raakhi Gaaj Project. The cost of total project is 1.2 Billion rupees. This bridge is constructed to mitigate the hazard of land sliding which affects the road as well as the vehicle passage. The road and steel bridge is constructed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The budget for this bridge was also provided by Japan Government. Fort Munro (Urdu: 9s ygs), (Balochi: sl aï or gjis Ujgs) also known as Tuman Leghari, is a hill station, located at a height of 6,470 feet (1,970 m) above sea level in Dera Ghazi Khan. It attracts many people for short stays during the hot summer. It is around 85 kilometres from Dera Ghazi Khan city, Puniab. Pakistan and about 185 kilometres from Multan in Sulaiman Mountain range. The people of Fort Munro are nomads, especially of the Leghari tribe. Fort Munro lies on the Quetta Road at 85 km from Dera Ghazi Khan city. It is the only hill station in southern Punjab in the Sulaiman Mountain range. Its altitude is 1800 meters and attracts many people for short stays during the summer. Fort Munro can be reached either from Loralai Balochistan or from Multan (Punjab). From Punjab, the mountain range starts near Rakhni, which is a border-post between Balochistan and Punjab.
