Best Waterfalls of Iceland - 4K Nature Documentary

Iceland, the famous Land of Ice and Fire is best known for its waterfalls, counting in the hundreds.
In this video we would like to share with you what we think are the top 8 waterfalls in Iceland.

00:11 - Svartifoss Waterfall
Svartifoss is located in the Vatnajokull National Park. It is 65-foot (20m) tall and the walk from the Skaftafell Visitor Centre takes around 45 minutes.
The hike is somewhat steep but quite easy.
Svartifoss means Black Falls because of the black lava columns surrounding the waterfall.

01:10 - Haifoss Waterfall
Haifoss is a 400-foot (122m) high waterfall in South Iceland.
When this waterfall was discovered it was thought to be the highest waterfall in Europe, hence the name Haifoss meaning High Falls in icelandic.

02:06 - Dynjandi Waterfall
Dynjandi, also known as Fjallfoss, is a series of seven cascading waterfalls and is the major tourist attraction in the Westfjords.
It's name translates to the Thunderer in English and Dynjandi cascades 100 m over terraces of basalt rocks.

03:04 - Godafoss Waterfall
Godafoss is very conveniently situated right next to the Ring Road making it one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland.
While it drops only 40 feet (12 meters), it is 100 feet (30 metres) wide with high water volume and makes an impressive sight.
Godafoss means The Waterfall of the Gods in icelandic.

04:07 - Gullfoss Waterfall
Gullfoss is located on the Hvita River in South Iceland and is one of the most visited waterfalls in the country.
It drops 105 feet (32 meters) into a narrow gorge in two tiers and in summer there are often rainbows in the spray when it catches the light.
Gullfoss means The Golden Waterfall as it is a highlight of the Golden Circle, the most famous tourist trail in Iceland, easily accessible from Reykjavik on a day trip.

05:20 - Dettifoss Waterfall
Dettifoss is located in Northern Iceland around a 30 minute drive from the Ring Road and it is the most powerful waterfall in Europe.
The water drops 150 feet (46m) and it sends almost 200 cubic meters of water down every second. This amount of water results in a lot of spray.

06:18 - Skogafoss Waterfall
Skogafoss is very conveniently situated right next to the Ring Road in the village of Skogar in South Iceland.
It is 200 feet (60m) high and 80 feet (25m) wide. The high drop, high amount of water and its simplistic look makes this waterfall very impressive and
you are guaranteed to get very wet if you get close.

07:23 - Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Seljalandsfoss is not far from the Skogafoss waterfall, next to the Ring Road and has the same 200-feet (60m) water drop.
You can walk behind it, getting a beautiful perspective of the falling water.
Doing so is definitely a great experience, but you do need to be aware that there will be a lot of water spray behind the waterfall and you might get very wet.
We consider Seljalandsfoss the most picturesque waterfall of Iceland.

Flights over Iceland (DJI Phantom 2, Zenmuse HD-3D, Gopro Hero 3+ Black Edition)

Aerial footage of some of the wonderful sights from my stops in Iceland (Reykjavik and Akureyi). Sadly, I only had about 5-10 minutes of flight time at each location as I was with a tour group. Nevertheless, I managed to put together a short clip of the trip highlights. Locations covered includes;

Blue Lagoon
Krysuvik Geothermal fields
Godafoss waterfall
Gullfoss waterfall
Thingvellir National Park

Iceland is a wonderful place with some amazing landscapes. I will be back!

All footage here was shot with a Gopro Hero 3+ Black Edition mounted on a DJI Phantom 2 quadcopter via a Zenmuse HD-3D Gimbal.

Godafoss waterfall Drone Aerial Video Top 10 Waterfalls of the gods Iceland

Godafoss stunning awesome and beautifull waterfall in Iceland

The Goðafoss (Icelandic: waterfall of the gods or waterfall of the goði) is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. It is located in the Bárðardalur district of North-Central Iceland at the beginning of the Sprengisandur highland road. The water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls from a height of 12 meters over a width of 30 meters.
In the year 999 or 1000 the Lawspeaker Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði made Christianity the official religion of Iceland. After his conversion it is said that upon returning from the Alþingi, Þorgeir threw his statues of the Norse gods into the waterfall. Þorgeir's story is preserved in Ari Þorgilsson's Íslendingabók.
A window in the Cathedral of Akureyri (Akureyrarkirkja) illustrates this story.
MS Goðafoss, an Icelandic ship named after the waterfall, was carrying both freight and passengers. It was sunk by a German U-Boat in World War II, resulting in great loss of lives.

Wodospad Godafoss (isl.

7 Waterfalls of Iceland | including aerial drone shots

A selection of seven among the hundreds of Iceland's scenic waterfalls. Featured are some very well known falls as well as some hidden treasures. This is not a «Top10» or «Top 7» list – it is merely the falls I came across on a Summer trip to Southwest Iceland.

Part of the footage was shot with DJI's Phantom 4 drone.

These are the chutes and places:

0:21 – Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss waterfall in south Iceland is an amazing waterfall that you can walk behind in summer. The fall drops 60 m (197 ft) and is part of the Seljalands River that has its origin in the volcano glacier Eyjafjallajökull.

0:37 – Gljúfrabúi
This chute is also known as Gljúfrafoss. Gljúfrabúi means «one who lives in the canyon». This hidden beauty is located within walking distance north of the larger falls of Seljalandsfoss. Gljúfrabúi is partially obscured by rocks, but you can follow a trail to enter the narrow canyon where the water plummets to a small pool.

0:49 | 2:01 – Hjálparfoss
Hjálparfoss is a beautiful, two stepped waterfall north of the famous volcano Hekla near the point where the rivers Fossá and Þjórsá join, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) east of the village Flúðir.

1:00 – Small waterfall by the Ocean near Arnarstapi
Arnarstapi is a small fishing village at the foot of Mt. Stapafell between Hellnar village and Breiðavík farms on the southern side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. There, you will find a number of small creeks, that plumed into the Ocean.

1:21 – Gullfoss
Gullfoss or «Golden Falls» is one of the most popular tourist attractions of Iceland.

2:47 – Skógafoss
Skógafoss is situated on the Skógá River in the south of Iceland at the cliffs of the former coastline. After the coastline had receded seaward the former sea cliffs remained, creating a clear border between the lowlands and the Highlands of Iceland. Skógafoss is unique because the fall's water originates directly from two glaciers, Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull

3:15 – Small creek near Rauðhóll
Rauðhóll is a beautifully shaped scoria cone that was created in an eruption about 5-8'000 years ago. There are two hiking trails, one along the creek of Stökklar where this footage was taken.

SKÓGAFOSS WATERFALL - Top Locations in Iceland

Find out more:

Book tours to Skógafoss Waterfall:

Skógafoss is a waterfall found on Iceland’s picturesque South Coast, located close to the village of Skógar, which itself lies south of Eyjafjallajökull glacier. Measuring 60 metres (197 ft) high, with a width of 25 metres (82 ft), Skógafoss is considered a staple stop on sightseeing tours in South Iceland.

The waterfall is located on the Skógá river, approximately 149 kilometres from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Visitors to Skógafoss can either view the waterfall from the base—they’re able to walk right up to the cascading water!—or from the top, following a steep staircase that trails the waterfall’s side to an observation deck.

According to legend, an ancient treasure chest was hidden behind Skógafoss by one of the area’s earliest settlers, Þrasi Þórólfsson. Since his death in 900 AD, many attempts have been made to locate the chest, with locals even managing to grab a handle from the chest before it broke off.

Summary :-

Gullfoss :-
Gullfoss, or “Golden Falls”, is one of the three must-see attractions of the famous Golden Circle route in southwestern Iceland. This two-tiered waterfall drops 32 metres into a narrow 70-metre deep canyon, creating an impressive spray of mist that often produces rainbows in sunny weather.

Seljalandsfoss:-
This 40-metre waterfall in South Iceland is spectacular to look at from a distance, but its wow factor lies in the footpath leading behind the tumbling water. If you visit Seljalandsfoss (most visitors do!), make sure to wear good hiking shoes and a waterproof coat as there's a lot of spray and potential slippery spots on the path.

Gljúfrabúi :-
Just west of Seljalandsfoss is the fascinating Gljúfrabúi, also called Gljúfrafoss or simply “the hidden waterfall”—which seems appropriate as its Icelandic name means “Dweller of the Gorge”.

Svartifoss :-
Meaning “Black Falls” in Icelandic, the 20-metre high Svartifoss is named for its cliffs of dark hexagonal basalt columns—similar to those seen at seen at Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland or Reynisfjara beach in South Iceland.

Hengifoss :-
Hengifoss is the third highest waterfall in the country at 118 metres. This spectacular waterfall in East Iceland tumbles into a dramatic gorge and is easy to access from the main road. Below it is a smaller waterfall, Litlanesfoss, which is remarkable for its columnar basalt setting.

Kirkjufellsfoss :-
This small and charming waterfall sits near the impressive Mount Kirkjufell at Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is particularly scenic for photographers when capturing the water's serenity against the dramatic mountain in the background.

Dettifoss :-
When it comes to sheer water volume then Dettifoss is Europe’s biggest waterfall. A massive amount of water plunges into the gorge below with an deafening noise. Truly impressive to witness it up and close.

Godafoss :-
Goðafoss, at 12 meters high and 30 meters wide, is the most famous of the Skjálfandafljót waterfalls, and one of the most famous in the country. It is the only one specifically featured on the classic 'Diamond Circle' route.
