New Zealand's SHINE FALLS ???????? Hawke's Bay's MOST Spectacular Waterfall
At 58 meters high, Shine Falls is known as Hawke's Bay's most spectacular waterfall. The leisurely 1.5-2 hour roundtrip walk to the immense falls takes you along some stunning cliffs that cut through the surrounding farmland. The walk also takes you through the Boundary Stream Reserve Area, which is a Mainland Island. I had never heard of this interesting concept before. Mainland islands aim to protect and restore habitats on the mainland of New Zealand through intensive management of introduced pests. They are called mainland islands because they are defined areas that are isolated by fencing, geographical features or, more commonly, intensive management of pests. With the amount of bird songs that accompanied us on our walk, I'd say that they seem to be doing a good job restoring the habitat.

Chasing Waterfalls 3 - Shine Falls
Shine Falls is the highest and most spectacular waterfall in Hawke's Bay. It falls 58 meters (190 feet) into a shallow pool. It is a great swimming spot during summer, and it even has a nice ledge/cave behind the waterfall.It is a nice motorbike ride, only 1.5 hours north of Napier, with a stretch of well maintained gravel roads.There is a short walk from the car park to the falls. Allow between 30 and 60 minutes depending on your ability. When I went it was faily busy. It must be a very popular picnic spot during summer. Don't expect to have a great deal of space to yourself.It's definately the most impressive waterfall I have seen in this region. Even when we are approaching drought conditions.

Things to see in New Zealand series. 1) Shine Falls, Napier
One of the beautiful waterfalls I have seen in New Zealand. Towering, 58m-high waterfall in native forest with abundant birdlife & various looped trails. It is so secluded that I had to drive an hour and half from Napier, last 10km or so is graveled road and another hour of hiking. The hike is quite easy, mostly flat and some gradient slopes. I did the hike all by myself and so can anyone in my opinion. Plus point, I got the waterfall all to myself! It is worth a visit if you are in the area. Oh and if you should know, there isn't any mobile reception in the area.

58 Meters High Most Beautifull Shine Falls In New Zealand
Rising 58 metres, Shine Falls is Hawke's Bay's most spectacular waterfall.
Shine Falls is roughly a 1.5 hours drive away from Napier, and the last 12km is gravel road - but it's worth the trip!
The Shine Falls track is a 1.5 hour return walk, and leads to the base of the waterfall. The walk passes through farmland and beneath towering sandstone bluffs. There are some uphill sections on the track as well as stream crossings, but they are all bridged and easy. Low-land forest includes kanuka, kawakawa, kowhai and titoki.
Getting there
From Napier, head north-east on SH2 and follow it for the next 43.5km until you see the 'Shine Falls' sign, where you need to turn left into Matahorua Rd. After 11km turn left into Heays Access Rd. Follow this road for 6.5 km until you reach a DOC car park, on your left, with a picnic table (no toilets).

Hawke's Bay is a very beautiful region of New Zealand. It's our 3rd time here in Hawke's Bay and we already filmed a couple of travel videos about this tourist destination. But it has so many activities to offer that we decided to spend two more days here and explore some must-visit locations: Napier (the Art Deco capital of the world), Cape Kidnappers (and the colony of Australasian gannets), Craggy Range winery and Maraetotara Falls. Chasing Waterfalls - Maraetotara Falls (including drone footage)
Maraetotara Falls in Hawke's Bay. The pool at the base of the waterfall looks like it would be nice to swim in on a hot summers day. there are a number of other swimming holes along the river, but there is also a lot of fallen trees and branches that could pose a hazard.
I managed to get the drone out this time - was very nearly the last time too. It appeared that the drone got pulled in to the waterfall. However, after watching the footage I think it may have been hit by some falling water (in a waterfall??? never!!!) and that caused it to tilt and dive.
I'm unhappy with the drone anyway. 4 minutes flight time before the battery is depleted and it’s forced to land. That’s barely enough to do one basic shot, let alone take away on a camping holiday. I’d need to fill a panier with spare batteries.
