Puerto Morelos, Mexico - First of all, this isn’t a video about Things to do in Tulum. We actually skip Tulum all together on this Riviera May trip, because truthfully, it gets enough attention… I know, that’s crazy for me to say as a quote-un-quote “Influencer.”
Instead, today we leave Cancun behind, driving south, for a location that I think is even better than the hyped up hot spot of Tulum.
After two incredible days of searching for the best tacos in Cancun, and spending time outside the city with a traditional Mayan family, we’re ready to press on with our Riviera Maya Road Trip.
Next stop: Things to do in Puerto Morelos!
Right off the top, Puerto Morelos feels like you’ve teleported back to a more peaceful time, before the spring breaks and mega resorts found this incredible coastline.
Puerto Morelos is an authentic fishing village with a Bohemian atmosphere, but still caters to the more curious travelers who find this place.
You have all of the spa treatments, yoga studios, and open-air restaurants; including our first stop of the morning, the delicious El Nicho restaurant for a quick breakfast and then a green juice at nearby Mangata.
The National Reef Park of Puerto Morelos is the second largest barrier reef in the world, and it lives only about 400 meters off shore.
The coral reef and seagrass area is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in all of the Riviera Maya, so of course we had to come get a closer look.
This afternoon its back into the jungle to find a new cenote. Puerto Morelos has direct access to La Ruta de los Cenotes, the main road that visitors from Cancun, Tulum, and Playa del Carmen take to experience these incredible swimming holes. Along this route there are countless options, each with their own allure, and we decide on Cenotes Kin-Ha, a site that features two very unique spots.
If I haven’t mentioned this already, the trick with enjoying the beautiful cenotes in the Riviera Maya, you gotta either be the first ones here when they open, or be the last ones there in the afternoon if you want to fully appreciate these more well-known places without the crowds.
Luckily, we’re the last ones here and once we get all checked in, it’s up to us just go find the right hole in the ground.
I’m not gunna lie to you guys, the second cenote location was sketchy.
Cenote blanca Flor or White Flower, is such an innocent name, but if you’re not careful at this spot you could get seriously injured.
There’s a 5-level platform you can jump from, with the highest being 14 meters or 45 feet high, and also three zip-line options.
This is the gift and curse of having the entire place to yourself, if something goes wrong there’s nobody around to hear you scream.
We take a few, calculated risks and just enjoy the silence of the jungle for minute before it’s time to head back into Puerto Morelos for dinner…
Now, Puerto Morelos may not have as many fancy fine dining options or bottle service establishments as it’s more developed neighbors, but as a small fishing village it does have a lot of great fresh and simple seafood options.
At El Merkadito, right on the beach, you can pick out a catch of the day from the cooler, choose how you’d like it seasoned and they’ll cook for you right out front in the brick oven.
to me, this is the perfect way to end a full day.

Our New Home. Mexico's Best Kept Secret?
This week we say goodbye to our home of the last month in Valladolid and head to Puerto Morelos where we'll spend another month.
Puerto Morelos is a small coastal town located on the eastern coast of the Yucatán Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, Mexico. It is situated between the popular tourist destinations of Cancún and Playa del Carmen. Despite being in close proximity to these larger cities, Puerto Morelos has managed to maintain a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere, making it an attractive destination for those seeking a quieter and less crowded vacation spot.
One of the main draws of Puerto Morelos is its beautiful beaches and pristine Caribbean waters. The town boasts a long stretch of sandy shoreline with turquoise waters, which is perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest coral reef system in the world, is just offshore from Puerto Morelos, offering excellent opportunities for diving and snorkeling enthusiasts to explore the vibrant underwater world.
Puerto Morelos is known for its eco-tourism and preservation efforts. The town has a national marine park, the Puerto Morelos Reef National Park, which helps protect the local coral reefs and marine life. Visitors can take part in snorkeling or diving tours to explore the reefs and witness the diverse marine ecosystem.
The town itself has a charming and traditional Mexican feel, with colorful buildings, cobblestone streets, and a central square known as the Zocalo. The Zocalo is a gathering place for locals and tourists alike, where you can find small shops, restaurants, and a church. The main street, Avenue Javier Rojo Gomez, is lined with shops, cafes, and local businesses.
Overall, Puerto Morelos is a charming coastal town that provides a more relaxed and tranquil alternative to the busier tourist destinations in the region. It offers beautiful beaches, incredible marine life, and a chance to immerse yourself in Mexican culture and natural beauty.

When you think about Mexico, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? If it’s not beautiful beaches, good food, and warm weather, I don’t know what to tell you. Today, we’re going to be talking about a place that has all that and so much more. Let’s go to Puerto Morelos.
We decided to come down here to get some good weather and great food while starting our journey in international travel. What we didn’t know was that we were coming to Quintana Roo during the rainy season. Lol. But don’t be sad for us. Even when it rains, the weather is still pretty great.

Bacalar, Mexico - About a 4-Hour drive south from Cancun, there’s a paradise that’s relatively untouched by most foreign travelers.

The town of Bacalar in Quintana Roo, sits at the very southeastern tip of Mexico, and its position along the absolutely stunning Bacalar Lagoon makes this place worth the offbeat journey; come on let me show you why. Here are the best things to do in Bacalar, Mexico in one day!
Cenote Azul - Cenote Azul is one of the deepest cenotes in all of the Riviera Maya, at some 90 Meters or 290 feet deep and this beautiful dark blue pool presses right up against the ridiculously tropical turquoise waters of the lagoon, which we’ll jump into next.
Fort San Felipe - Spanish Conquistadors successfully took Bacalar in 1543, but that didn’t stop pirates from raiding and terrorizing this paradise all throughout the 1600’s. They could easily enter up through a canal in the lagoon, so this fort was incredibly important to protect the city from, well, yet another intruder.
Bacalar Lagoon Boat Tour - Now, I promise this isn’t just another boat trip scene, this insanely gorgeous, freshwater lagoon is known as Lake of Seven Colors, as the variety of blue and turquoise hues make this place so unique. A White sandy bottom, cloud coverage and water depth causes colors to morph into varying shades of gatorade like mother nature’s own tie-dye. And we find one incredible inlet sandbar to drop anchor and join the party. This is most definitely the best thing to do in Bacalar!
Best Places to Eat in Bacalar - Then, the only thing that can pull me away from this perfect scene, it’s time to head back on shore, for lunch at Kai Pez in downtown Bacalar, right next to Bacalar Lagoon.
Los Rapidos - Alright, there’s just one more place I want to show you for the day, if you promise to be cool about it. A turquoise-colored natural lazy river in the middle of nowhere! Now, If you come here based on this video, please make me proud and don’t touch the side walls of this river.
This is a very sensitive habitat, made beautiful by one lagoon runoff and those same estromatolitos (Stromatolite) we spoke about early. All of the white exterior are living microorganisms that will die if disrupted, just like coral. The trick is, get in and out and designated locations and just let yourself float down stream. It’s amazing.
We stayed at the beautiful Mia Bacalar, right on Bacalar Lagoon. I highly recommend this resort in Bacalar!

Puerto Morelos is a Mexican port town on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It’s between the Riviera Maya resorts of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, but retains some of its original fishing village character. The Puerto Morelos Reef National Park has many offshore dive sites. Turtles breed on coastal beaches. Inland are freshwater sinkholes including Las Mojarras Cenote and Verde Lucero Cenote.

Puerto Morelos Mexico #1 - Best kept secret of the Mayan Riviera
On the coast, almost halfway between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun, sits the sleepy little town of Puerto Morelos. One road in, one road out - you can't miss it. But many do. The road ends at the town square - a true family orientated place.This town wasn't built for tourists but for the people. We first visited here in 99 and spent a very romantic night in a small little place right on the beach. I always go back and am happy to say the place is still there and the vibe never changes. You can still smell the patuli oil in the air and catch the yoga at 7 am.This is a very well centered town - growing at a much slower rate than Playa and Cancun- with a much more peaceful result. A beach that easily compares with anywhere else here and goes on forever. Restaurants and shops galore, dive shops, snorkel trips, the best reef around - this is a place that is hard to get out of your soul. This is not party central - this is laid back Mexico at it's best, a stone's throw away from the hustle and bustle. It is also home to a major cargo port, just around the corner from the town square - it's only going to cost $175 to ship my motorcycle from Fort Lauderdale to here. ;) In the meantime I rent a car - Mexico is a great place to drive and explore. location@ Google map @

Puerto Morelos is one of the best kept secrets in the Yucatan. Anyone who happens into this awesome little Caribbean town quickly falls in love! The town is growing, but in ways that enhance it instead of cause it to lose its charm and appeal.
Puerto Morelos is totally different! It is a small town, with a friendly, laid-back feel. With that being said, there needs to be a disclaimer statement: If you are a “Spring Breaker” or are looking for a party scene, Puerto Morelos IS NOT the place for you. That does not mean it’s boring though–it surprisingly has a lot of activity and plenty to do. If you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life or just escape from your own thoughts and anxieties, Puerto Morelos is absolutely perfect for you!

YUCATAN Mexico Road Trip ???????? | Cenotes + Puerto Morelos (Mexico 2021)
LETS GO ON A ROAD TRIP!!!
We took a rented car with our new friend Nicki and drove from Playa Del Carmen to Puerto Morelos. Along the way we searched for cenotes and then chased the sunset towards Punta Esmeralda, which is one of the only sunset spots in all of Yucatan.
We started the day in a cheeky restaurant called Tacos dot com .. which had the BEST tacos as well as fresh fruit juice and strong coffee.

Puerto Morelos is a Mexican port town on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It’s between the Riviera Maya resorts of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, but retains some of its original fishing village character. The Puerto Morelos Reef National Park has many offshore dive sites. Turtles breed on coastal beaches. Inland are freshwater sinkholes including Las Mojarras Cenote and Verde Lucero Cenote.

This is located on Ruta De Cenotes (close by to Puerto Morelos)
Punta Esmeralda :
Embark on a little slice of paradise in Playa del Carmen and visit this free, untouched white sand beach public beach just off of Fifth Avenue. Filled with freshwater, this crystal-clear cenote with shallow conditions is the perfect wading pool for children or for those looking to take a dip and cool off. Relax on the sand, frolic in the water, and marvel at the jaw-dropping views of the Caribbean Sea. Watch the source of the water bubble up from the underground river system and feed directly into the cenote. There are plenty of shaded areas and picnic tables, as well as a playground for the little ones.
Unlucky for us, it was a cloudy day at the Playa and we did not get the sunset we wanted, but nonetheless it was an amazing day, full of speed bumps, smiles & laughs.

In this video we are exploring Puerto Morelos, Mexico one of our favourite spots in all of the places we visited in Mexico especially in Quintana Roo
In this video we are exploring the beach and restaurants and the general area. We also travel to our first more local vibe cenote.
We highly recommend a visit to this smaller fishing village that is less touristy than many other towns in the area. It's not ot far from Cancun you can travel by taxi or bus and it's a great stop for a few days on the way to Playa del Carmen (as we did) or you can definitely plan for an extended stay in this lovely area as we intend to do next visit!
We highly recommend the restaurant Mar Bella right on the water for some amazing seafood and amazing desserts.
You should definitely add this destination to your Yucatan Peninsula tour of the Caribbean
If you plan your timing right there are turtle releases on the coastal beaches here! Something we didn't get to experience but we will definitely return for! The area is also quite popular for diving, another thing we didn't get the chance to try.
