Watch the BBC first on iPlayer ???? In the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family, Fergal Keane presents live coverage from Westminster Abbey in London of a service of celebration for Commonwealth Day.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Queen for a Westminster Abbey service to mark Commonwealth Day.
The royals and senior figures from national life marked the 70th anniversary of the modern Commonwealth.

The theme of this year's event was A Connected Commonwealth, with member countries being urged to protect natural resources and the environment.

In her message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet.

Earlier Prince Harry and Meghan visited the Canadian embassy as part of Commonwealth Day celebrations.
The multicultural, multi-faith event at Westminster Abbey saw performances and readings from representatives from throughout the Commonwealth.

Grammy-winning group, Clean Bandit were the first to perform, followed by performances of North Indian dhol drumming, and a solo by an Australian aboriginal musician on a didgeridoo.

The Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke of York also attended the service.

The Prime Minister Theresa May was in the 2,000-strong congregation, as well as Commonwealth Secretary-General Baroness Scotland, high commissioners, ambassadors, faith leaders, plus more than 800 schoolchildren and young people.

Cold-water swimmer, Lewis Pugh spoke at the ceremony to appeal for greater efforts to restore the health of the oceans.
Earlier, Prince Harry and Meghan kicked off the celebrations at an event at Canada House, to showcase Canadian talent in the UK.

The couple were welcomed to the embassy by Canada's High Commissioner to the UK, Janice Charette.

In her Commonwealth message, the Queen said the Commonwealth vision offers hope, and inspires us to find ways of protecting our planet, and our people.

We are able to look to the future with greater confidence and optimism as a result of the links that we share, and thanks to the networks of co-operation and mutual support to which we contribute, and on which we draw.

With enduring commitment through times of great change, successive generations have demonstrated that whilst the goodwill for which the Commonwealth is renowned may be intangible, its impact is very real.

The Queen famously dedicated herself to the empire, which later became the Commonwealth, on her 21st birthday in 1947.

The then Princess Elizabeth said: I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family, to which we all belong.

✅ Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Wedding !

advertising on Youtube !

Harry and Meghan, Kate and William, Charles and Diana. Names that instantly conjure a royal union.

As millions of people around the world obsessed over every detail of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's May 19, 2018 nuptials, it became quite easy to size up the couple's festivities to another royal wedding and marriage, one that has lasted more than 70 years: Queen Elizabeth II (Harry’s grandmother) to Prince Philip.

Queen Elizabeth II of Britain and the Commonwealth Realms is the longest reigning monarch in the history of the world. But in 1934 when she met her future husband Philip Mountbatten (at a wedding, no less) she was simply Princess Elizabeth, the eight-year-old eldest daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. It was 13 years before the couple would become engaged.

Let’s look back at what a royal wedding was like more than 70 years ago, and how some of the more recent royal unions stuck with, or sometimes strayed from, tradition.

Princess Elizabeth married Philip Mountbatten on November 20, 1947, at London’s Westminster Abbey. The queen was the tenth member of the royal family to be wed at the Abbey. The queen’s parents were married there, her second son Prince Andrew wed Sarah Ferguson there in 1986 and grandson Prince William married Catherine Middleton at the same location in 2011. Unlike his father and brother, Prince Harry married in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle, the location his uncle, Prince Edward, married Sophie Rhys-Jones at in 1999.

The wedding was on a weekend
Traditionally, British royal weddings occur during the workweek, granting the populace an extra day off from work to celebrate the happy event. Breaking with that tradition, Harry and Meghan wed on a Saturday – May 19, 2018.

Meghan Markle, who first attended the event last year as Prince Harry‘s fiancée, joined her new husband for the event. The mom-to-be was photographed driving into the luncheon wearing a black top with a high neckline, while her husband sported a suit as he took the drivers’ seat. Also heading to the party were Meghan’s in-laws, Prince William and Kate Middleton. William drove his family to the event, and Kate shared a smile and wave with onlookers in a bubblegum pink ensemble. Prince George, 5, and Princess Charlotte,– wearing matching outfits by Amaia, the London-based children’s wear brand that was also behind their adorable page boy and bridesmaid ensembles for Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding – once again joined in on the festivities. In fact, their nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo rode with the children in the backseat of the car. However, it’s unclear if 8-month-old Prince Louis made his debut at the annual gathering. They joined more than 50 royal family members for lunch at the palace, including the Queen’s husband of 71 years, Prince Philip. The 97-year-old royal retired from public duty last year but has continued to make appearances for family-based events such as Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie‘s weddings. The family will get together again for Christmas. Despite previous reports that Prince William and Kate would likely be spending the holiday with the Middleton family in Bucklebury, the couple will be joining the rest of the royals, including Harry and Meghan, in Norfolk for Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham. Claims have swirled about tension between brothers William and Harry and their wives, Kate and Meghan. A source tells PEOPLE that last year, the couples enjoyed a memorable first Christmas together, when Meghan made her debut walk to church with the royal family on Christmas Day. “They really loved Christmas and all had a wonderful time,” the source says. “I think the two women got on — they are definitely not best friends, but it was a really special time for them all to spend together.”

The duchesses appeared to be in good spiritis, despite being the subject of growing speculation they have been involved in a rumoured rift. Reports have suggested the pair have previously been involved in a ghastly row, with the Duchess of Cambridge, 36, reduced to tears during Meghan's wedding preparations.

✅ princess Meghan Markle vs princess Kate Middleton !

Catherine, the Princess of Wales, and Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, became sisters-in-law when the former Hollywood actress tied the knot with Prince Harry on May 19, 2018, effectively bumping Catherine's 2011 wedding to Prince William out of recent memory. However, Catherine and Meghan had started getting to know one another back during the days of Meghan and Harry's headline-making engagement, and they've no doubt continued to learn more about one another as they've attended royal events together and grown their respective families.

But how close are they really? After all, it's not exactly common to forge a friendship while leading lives in the spotlight and keeping up with royal traditions. Whatever budding relationship they may have had certainly became compromised when Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior members of the royal family, and even more so when the couple dropped that bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey. By all accounts, Catherine and William were absolutely appalled by it, according to Us Weekly. When Queen Elizabeth II died in 2022, Harry and Meghan returned to England for the funeral, leading to something of a reunion between the Fab Four, marking the first time in years that they were together again.

So let's take a closer look at the royal women's bond, and figure out the truth about how these two duchesses really feel about one another. We have a suspicion that there's more than meets the eye when it comes to Catherine and Meghan's relationship.

Princess Catherine met Prince William at St. Andrews University when they were first-year students, according to Vogue, and they bonded over their mutual studies of art history. They were friends first, and then moved in together in their second year, into a house with other friends. The pair naturally caused minor eruptions in British tabloids whenever they were spotted together, and they split briefly in 2007. At the time I wasn't very happy about it, but actually it made me a stronger person, Catherine said, according to Vogue.

But it was happily ever after for Catherine and William. Ten years after meeting, they married at Westminster Abbey in 2011, surrounded by the Middleton and royal families, according to Us Weekly.

Things were very different for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple met in 2016 on a blind date in London, according to Vanity Fair. Meghan, 34 at the time, was an established actor, according to People, and Harry, 31 at the time, was bringing awareness to the Invictus Games. Very shortly after, Harry took Meghan to Africa. I managed to persuade her to come and join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars, Harry said after their engagement, Town & Country noted. By May 2018, they were married. The speed of each relationship could not be more different, as well as the ages and lives of the two women.
