DRIVING THE ROAD TO HANA in Maui, Hawaii - best stops to see waterfalls, a black sand beach & more!
During my recent trip to Maui, Hawaii, I drove the Road to Hana and made many awesome stops along the way. This drive really is about the journey and not the destination. There are so many beautiful places to pull over and things to see, from cascading waterfalls to red sand beaches, black sand beaches and a bamboo forest.

PE'AHI OPENING DAY!!! EXCELLENT CONDITIONS!!!
Opening day at Pe'ahi was filled with epic big wave surfing moments and excellent clean conditions. The waves were pumping all day long! The paddle session started right around sunrise in extra large surf, the swell had just peaked over night and there were still some giant waves coming through. Albee Layer got a really heavy barrel on his first wave and then backed it up with another clean barrel. Kai Lenny and his brother Ridge also showed up early with their team and they did some excellent paddle in and tow in surfing through out the day. Billy Kemper also came over from Oahu to surf this swell, he waited patiently and got a big north one, he pulled in and was a little too deep to make it out. Everyone was charging hard and really going for it this swell. All in all it was a very successful opening day at Pe'ahi with excellent conditions for everyone to enjoy. Stay tuned for more big swells as we head into this El Nino winter season.

Maui's most popular tourist areas are Kaanapali with its string of luxury hotels golf courses and the best hanging out beaches are. The best surfing is on the north side of the Island where the famous JAWS reef formation creates wave over 80 feet high at times.
Lahaina, once a large whaling town is now the top destination on Maui for shopping, dining, and strolling the souvenir shops. Other major attractions on Maui are visiting the desolated volcano crater of mount Haleakala. Haleakala is 10,023 feet high above sea level but add to that the more than 16,000 feet below to the ocean floor and you have one of the tallest mountains on earth.
One popular activity is biking down Haleakala on a mountain bike. The great thing about going down hill is there is very little peddling to do. Maui Hawaii also offers Helicopter tours, snorkeling tours, and whale watching tours. If you are really adventurous Maui also offers a couple of different zip-line tours.
The Piiholo Ranch Zipline has a 9 line course that flies through the eucalyptus trees.
The Island of Maui offers amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. One very popular activity on Maui is driving the Road To Hana. The winding road features numerous one lane bridges, waterfalls, steep drop offs and at times beautiful ocean views. The winding road and seemingly endless number of one lane bridges can be unnerving to some people but if you take your time and never force your right-of-way you will find the road fun and interesting.

Thompson Road - Kula, Maui, Hawaii - Breathtaking Views
Thompson Road - Kula, Maui, Hawaii - Breathtaking Views
One of the most spectacular walks on Maui is Thompson Road - located in Keokea, near Ulupalakua. It's about a 3 mile walk roundtrip with incredible views everywhere! You can see cows, horses, deer, pheasants, and so many birds on the slopes of Haleakala during this walk. It's a photographer's dream! Make sure to check out Grandma's Coffee House when you're there too -

Who knew the Hawaiian Islands would be so diverse? Our family has lived on Oahu for a year now and has enjoyed this tropical paradise. Learning to surf, skateboard, hike through the jungle, and enjoy Honolulu's Asian plantation heritage. But Maui is different. Maui has a volcano! It's dryer and hotter. The reef is still vibrant. We may only be a 18-minute flight away, but you wouldn't know it if it wasn't for the Hawaiian people and their culture.
In this episode the girls and I fly from Oahu to Maui and start our day by driving up to the top of Haleakala, a dormant Volcano of 10 thousand feet, before we stop for an early dinner at Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop, before finally checking in at Camp Olowalo for one of their Tentalows located right on the beach in one of the most beautiful campgrounds I have ever seen.

???? If you are new to our channel, John re-enlisted in the military after being out for ten years. Kind of crazy. But John was a Marine and he loved the Marines. Afghanistan Veteran. The only reason he got out was for me. Back before online jobs or school, he gave up the Marines and allowed me to start my career. I had an amazing career spending years growing and working with Target as a Store Director. But with Covid came many changes. One of those was to stay home and homeschool Alexandra. And so it opened the door for John to do whatever he wanted to do. He re-enlisted, but this time we both agreed on the Army. But after being out so long, John had to go through Basic training again or OSUT. Six months of that followed by waiting for command sponsorship for our first OCONUS move and the family has been apart for 10 months. Crazy considering this wasn't a deployment. But we made it! We are now stationed at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii for the next 2 to 3 years and feel truly blessed to be here!

Maui Luxurious Top Floor Vacation Rental at the Royal Kahana Resort
Why is unit 1204 the best studio at the Royal Kahana Resort? It's because of the ocean view from our studio and the recent completed renovation of the unit. Also the way the building is angled to the beach and the floor that unit 1204 is on give it a full ocean view from the interior of the unit. Most other studio's only have a view of the ocean from there lanai, not 1204. Don't take my word for it please take a look at our pictures and compare them to other unit's pictures, if the pictures do not show an ocean view from the interior of the unit then they don't have one and it's a partial ocean view from the lanai. Don't get me wrong it is a nice view but if you're going to go all the way to Hawaii get the best view for your money. But I will say the Royal Kahana Resort has some of the best views from any unit for your dollar compared to all the other resorts in the Kahana area, it doesn't matter if it's partial view or a full view the view is spectacular and you will not be disappointed. The unit was just recently renovated with high end materials. In the kitchen we used Maple Wood Cabinets, Granite slab counters and back splash with GE full size Stainless Steel Appliances to finish off this well appointed kitchen. In the bathroom the vanity has the same maple wood cabinet and the same type of granite used in the kitchen. The same granite was used on the walls of the walk in shower from the floor to ceiling and a turtle design was cut into the floor of the shower. This is the nicest shower in the building. The newly decorated interior has Hawaiian art work and koa wood accents pieces' that compliment the Wicker and Bamboo furniture that gives a true Hawaiian style tropical decor. Come stay in our luxurious remodeled oceanfront condo with a fantastic view of the beach and the island of Molokai framed in by the beautiful blue ocean of the maui channel. It's fully furnished and has Central Air Conditioning and a ceiling fan provides maximum comfort. If the air conditioning is not for you just turn it off and open the lanai door and let the warm island breeze comfort you. Studio 1204 is fully stocked with linens which include bed sheets, bathroom towels, kitchen towels, and pool towels. The unit is equipped with a full size washer/dryer including detergent and fabric softener, iron, ironing board and a vacuum cleaner. The kitchen comes with cooking utensils, coffee maker, coffee grinder, toaster, blender, refrigerator with ice maker and filtered water, microwave, stove, cookware and dishes. We've added a 40 LCD flat screen TV for you when you need a break from all that sightseeing. Our private lanai is ideally located for dining with a full ocean view or watching the whales during whale season from December to May. Our condo is so nice it has previously been a featured unit in the Outrigger Royal Kahana brochures, but now you can rent it directly from the owners. Unit 1204 at the Royal Kahana Resort is the best deal based on the price, the amenities, the view, the renovated interior and the location.
