MY YEAR 2017 - A Year Defined by Change | Jake Frew
Early on in 2017, my life had reached an all time low. It hadn't turned out at all like I had hoped or expected it would. I was faced with a decision to either dwell on the pain and darkness, or to choose to see the beauty of each day regardless of circumstance. I picked up a camera and starting vlogging, making videos, and taking photos as often as I could. Making videos has changed the way I see the world and how I live my life. I've chosen to say goodbye to preditability, stability, and certainty. What good is any story if you can always predict what will happen next?

It's like I was hanging in a river, holding onto this branch with white knuckles for years. And I'm holding on, I have to hold onto this branch, or my life is over. I've been holding on for so long and I've lost feeling in them now, and I see my fingers slipping. And I'm like, 'What if the river is good?'
This quote from the Liturgists podcast was one of the most impactful analogies I had ever heard. I felt the exact same, that so much of my life was lived holding on so tight to what I thought I knew, what seemed safe. This year I think I finally let go of that branch.

Une année qui a été pleine d'expériences, où j'ai pu partager des moments avec mes amis, faire de nouvelles rencontres, et ça, tout en ayant toujours autant de plaisir à réaliser des vidéos.
Je suis tellement passioné, que du changement est à prévoir. Je souhaite en effet intégrer une école d'audiovisuel.

I let PERFECTION get in the way of GOOD ENOUGH
The vlog is back! I realized I started putting too much pressure on myself for my videos to be perfect before posting them. This only lead to me not posting as much, and not having as much fun editing videos. So I'm calling this the start of Season 2 of the vlog, and getting back to posting regularly, even if they're not perfect!

Happiness comes from within, no matter your surroundings. Live a life you don't need an escape from...build those daydreams into a reality.
2017 was the year where I found myself, my purpose. I met so many new people, started businesses, and just explored the world around me.
To say the least, 2017 was the best year of my life...but that was just the start of it all.

I met up with the guys from Lucid Cause, and we had some great conversation about the struggles of creating artwork for social media platforms that are so driven by numerical metrics and algorithms. It's easier said than done, but: forget about the metrics!! Be kind to yourself and have fun making things.

2017 has honestly been the craziest years of my life. I never would’ve thought buying a camera could change someone’s life so drastically. This year has thrown so many curveballs to me, but through all of this I can’t thank God enough. Through it all I felt his calling in my life driving me to push through the hard times and to not give up. I truly believe that this journey is just getting started, and I can’t wait to share the next year of my life with you ????????
