About Koshi
Koshi drains the northern slopes of the Himalayas in the Tibet Autonomous Region and the southern slopes in Nepal. From a major confluence of tributaries north of the Chatra Gorge onwards, the Koshi River is also known as Saptakoshi (Nepali: सप्तकोशी, saptakoshī) for its seven upper tributaries. These include the Tamur Koshi originating from the Kanchenjunga area in the east, Arun River and Sun Koshi from Tibet. The Sun Koshi’s tributaries from east to west are Dudh Koshi, Bhote Koshi, Tamba Koshi and Indravati Koshi. The Saptakoshi crosses into northern Bihar where it branches into distributaries before joining the Ganges near Kursela in Katihar district.

Angling The Himalayan Golden Mahaseer

Mahseer in local words is a combination of two words, mah (big) and seer (head) as it is known to be among the toughest among fresh water sport fish that courageously ascends the tough Himalayan rivers and streams. The Golden Mahseer was immortalized by Jim Corbett, the hunter-turned-conservationist, in his classic work 'Man Eaters of Kumaon'. In the chapter titled 'The Fish of My Dreams', Corbett describes watching a shoal of Mahseer in a deep pool and casting his lure in front of the biggest fish. The specimen he landed weighed a whopping 22 kg probably around five feet long. Sadly, those days are long gone.
The angling catch and release holiday takes you to the 40km Babai river in Western Nepal within the Bardia National Park. The wild and water life in the area has been preciously guarded by the Government of Nepal allowing you a guaranteed catch of the precious Golden Mahseer over a four day rafting adventure amidst the deep jungles as you watch wild elephants, deer's, a wide variety of birds and the river crocodiles at such proximities that is bound to take your breath away. Camping with the local anglers and guides sharing stories from the Himalayan waters and your fishing experiences in other challenging waters by the camp fire as wild animals lurk very close by is a memorable experience.

We went for fishing in river of Nepal and captured the moments in this video. We used the Traditional Way of Fishing Himalayan Snow Trout (असला माछा) in Hugdishir River which is at Baglung District. The spot of our fishing was near Shantipur Nayabazar. We tried to show the traditional way of fishing Himalayan Trout Fish by diverting the flow of water. Commonly known name for this fish in Nepal is Asala Machha. This video is form Nepal and it we depicted one of the way of fishing in Nepal. These days people are using electric fishing ( Current Fishing ) because of which the quantity of fish in the river is declining rapidly since such methods hampers the reproduction capacity of fish.
This video is a full day journey of our fishing. We left home early in the morning and trekked a long way towards the river capturing the beauty of Nepali Villages and people of Nepal. We recorded our fishing activities in River of Nepal. This was the month of March 2021, because of which the flow of water was low on the river and so were the fishes.
Asla (Asala) is a very good sport fish, tasty and liked very much by the people. It also fetches high price compared to other fish species. Asla is considered as an economically important high value fish of the Himalayan and sub-Himalayan regions.
