Nauru (Things to do - Places to Visit) - NAURU Top Tourist Places
Country in Oceania

Nauru is a tiny island country in Micronesia, northeast of Australia. It features a coral reef and white-sand beaches fringed with palms, including Anibare Bay on the east coast.

Inland, tropical vegetation surrounds Buada Lagoon. The rocky outcrop of Command Ridge, the island's highest point, has a rusty Japanese outpost from WWII. The underground freshwater lake of Moqua Well lies amid the limestone Moqua Caves.

Central Plateau in Nauru, Nauru

Nauru is a tiny phosphate rock island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean south of the Marshall Islands in Oceania.

Its land area is 21 km2, and it has a 30-kilometre coastline.
The climate is tropical with a monsoon rainy season from November to February.

A sandy beach rises to the fertile ring around raised coral reefs. The raised phosphate plateau ('Topside') takes up the central portion of the island. The highest point is 65 m above sea level, along the plateau rim.

Nauru's only economically significant natural resources are phosphates, formed from guano deposits by seabirds over many thousands of years, and fisheries, particularly for tuna.

Due to being surrounded by corals and sandy beaches, the island houses no natural harbours, nor any rivers or substantial lakes.

Nauru has its own unique navigational system, which is only capable of being used on the island.

To at least a depth of 55 metres below sea level, the limestone has been dissolved forming cavities, sinkholes and caves. Holes on the topside of the island were filled up by a phosphate layer up to several metres thick.

Anibare Bay was formed by the underwater collapse of the east side of the volcano. Buada Lagoon was formed by solution of the limestone when the sea level was lower, followed by collapse.

Nauru is moving at 104 mm per year to the north west along with the Pacific Plate.

Freshwater can be found in Buada lagoon, and also in some brackish ponds at the escarpment base in Ijuw and Anabar in the northeast. There is an underground lake in Moqua Cave in the southeast of the island.

Nauru Government House in Nauru, Nauru

Nauru is an island republic in the Pacific Ocean, 42 kilometers south of the Equator and 4,000 kilometers northeast of Sydney. A raised, fossilised coral atoll, Nauru is one of three great phosphate rock islands in the Pacific Ocean – the other two being Banaba (Ocean Island) in Kiribati and Makatea in French Polynesia. Nauru has a total land area of 21 square kilometers.
The old Government House on one of the inland roads up - there is a little office full of traditional Nauruan artefacts, including woven mats, carved wooden canoes, traditional woven mobiles, ancient Nauruan costumes including decorations made from the feathers of the famous Nauru frigate bird and pandanus.
The State House in Nauru is the official residence of the president of the Republic of Nauru. It was formerly a detention centre for detainees from Australia. Located in the Anetan District, in the northern part of the country, the State House is currently home to President Baron Waqa.

NAURU. What happened here, a curse?

This remote island in the Western Pacific Ocean is the world’s smallest island nation. It was once known as ‘Pleasant Island’ and in 1960’s it was one of the wealthiest nations in the world with highest GDP per capita. Today, it’s the least visited country in the world surviving with average social and economic status, what happened here?

A Microcosm of the World to Come? A lesson from the worlds smallest nation Nauru

Nauru is a tiny coral outcrop in MIcronesia in the Pacific Ocean. Although i had the loveliest of times i could've had on the island i've stuggled to be very optimistic or positive for once (there's a hint of it in there somewhere). What's shown here is a microcosm of our current activities on our planet therefore, the footage i've included tries to emphasize the extent of the destruction present on this island.

Here is another perfect example of the disasterous legacy left by colonial powers and it was lucky to get it's independence before the British and Australians kicked everyone out and plundered it like their neighbours Banaba. The neglect and wastage that's continued after, providing its citizens with nothing but a wasted environment must rest on the predecessors too.

Alongside their island, their democracy and freedom is being shut off too, social occasions or gathering of over 6 people have to be approved by the police.

The place is a complete and utter shambles and i haven't even got into the atrocities of the refugee camps yet (yet again Australias fault).

I wish the people of Nauru the best of luck, some say mining metals in their wastes is their next step. Great.
