Living the ultimate dream of island hopping the Aegean Sea. Since childhood I've always wished to be in Greece. But discovering the treasures of each island is the dream of all dreams. After spending two weeks in the mainland including two Ionian island, I set off from Rafina port and set off for my first island, andros.

Without doing too much research , I left my first island for surprise. I based myself in a cheap hotel in the beautiful sea town of Batsi. Here I enjoyed nice walked in blue and white, a nice swim at a nearby beach as well as a nice sunset swim in town. Although hitchhiking was a failed attempt in the mainland, the Greek island was the exact opposite as I was picked up by a friendly group of Greeks who brought me down to Ormous Korthiou. Here I walked over to a beach I booked marked called OLD WOMAN JUMP, a beautiful beach with an iconic pilar.

Directly south is my next island, Tinos. Tinos is an interesting island as its church, our lady of Tinos has an annual pilgrimage where people crawl from the sea up to the church. But aside from that as well as the beautiful villages I discovered above Tinos, my iconic memory in Tinos was the cheap Airbnb in the village of Arnados. For 60 dollars and two nights, I had an incredible view over half of the island and other Greek islands. With a home cooked meal and local wine, I had the view of a lifetime.

Onward to my next island and the final one in this video, I made my way over to Syros, an island I remember as having the most incredible port city, Ermoupoli. It's a Venetian city with beautiful colored buildings, a maze of walkways that hugs two steep hills overlooking the harbor and beyond. Here I also managed to hitchhike to the other end of the island to have lunch with newly made friends and enjoy a swim at a local beach. Here I took a nice quiet walk to the edge of the island, and realized, I made it.

Concluding this video, I set off for Serifos to continue my Aegean Sea voyage. :) cheers

Sailing Greek islands in the Aegean Sea - Cyclades in September 2021

This is the short video of me and my friends as we were sailing in the Greek Islands in September 2021. We had a lot of fun and a wonderful experience sailing in the beautiful Aegean Sea and visiting all those small beautiful islands in the Cyclades region.

There were 10 of us on the boat, each of us had our own room, but even for a 50 foot Beneteau it was pretty cramped. Especially sleeping in a tiny bed was an experience. Other than that, it was fun sailing the boat and being on deck.

During the 7 days on the boat, you get to know the people around you and almost become family. What I learned is that it's very important to have a good companion if you decide to spend the next 7 days with her on a boat. There's no place to express your feelings all the time. Until now, I've been sailing mostly in my home country. I was really looking forward to this experience. Greek islands are really romantic and these small villages are just so cute and beautiful. I definitely want to go there again.

Even though people say that all the islands look pretty similar and there's not enough greenery or tropical landscapes around you, the Cyclades are still worth a visit, especially if you're with your own boat and in control the whole time.

So the trip started on the mainland, in the small marina of Lavrion. The first island we headed for was Kythnos. Then we sailed just around the corner of the island and anchored on a beautiful hidden beach, where we'd a small island party in the evening. We continued on to Hydra and then to Poros. I'd say that Hydra and Poros were very nice, with a beautiful old town right by the marina. These villages are so small that you can walk through them at your leisure and find your favorite restaurant to have dinner or just a cocktail.

The last island we anchored on was Aegina, perhaps the quietest of them all. It really felt like summer was coming to an end and people were no longer on vacation, at least on this island. This was our last stop, because the next day we went back to Lavrion.

All those nights we slept on the boat. You can imagine that on the last night before the flight back, each of us thought only of the cozy hotel. And that's exactly what we did. We booked a very nice hotel in Athens, with spectacular views of the Acropolis. That was really the cherry on top. We'd one last meal with friends at a rooftop restaurant overlooking the Acropolis and the illuminated Parthenon Temple.

Sailing the Cyclades Islands Greece | SeaTV Sailing channel

This video is about Sailing in the Cyclades Islands, Greece;
The Cyclades is a dramatically amazing circle of islands with each having a personal drama from the civilisation-ending volcano of Santorini to the illuminating remains on Delos.
The Cyclades are located in the southern part of the Aegean Sea.
No mainland protects these islands. They are more exposed to the northerly ‘Meltemi’ wind, which very much dominates these islands.
The ‘Meltemi’ arrives during July and continues into September. it can blow for a day, or it can last several days. It can also funnel between the islands and the downdraft on the lee side of an island can increase its strength.
These wind conditions mean sailing in the Cyclades islands provides for more exciting sailing, but might also prove ‘too exciting’ for any less enthusiastic members of your crew.

Piraeus is the main port in Athens from which the majority of ferries arrive to and depart from including the Cyclades Islands and Crete. The Greek ferry system is the lifeblood of the Aegean, connecting the mainland with the dozens of inhabited islands. As a traveler to Greece, you’ll find that the ferries are an indispensable and quintessential part of your journey, offering a unique and enjoyable way to explore the landscapes and cultures of the islands. I much prefer taking a ferry than flying between the islands.

Ferry tickets can be purchased online (recommended), at travel agencies, or directly at the port. It is advisable to book in 2 to 3 months in advance, especially for the peak summer season (June to September) when popular routes can sell out quickly. Be sure to arrive at the port at least 30 minutes before departure, as boarding procedures can be unpredictable and boarding gates can change with little notice.

Continuing on with the voyage of my dreams, brings me the the small island of Serifos. What stands out about this island, is it's Chora, capital town of the island. Unlike other Choras, this Chora sits at the top of a steep hill with many beautiful villages on the way up. At the top is a church and an incredible view of the horizon. It's best here at sunset. Also on the island, I walked over to a nearby beach, made new friends, took a dip in the sea, and just relaxed.

My next island was Sifnos, another small island yet slightly larger than Serifos. Here I walked around the many villages in the interior of the island, managed to hitchhike to Crisopigi beach, and Faros, as well as caught another incredible sunset at Eftamartyres, a location I saved a year before.

My final island in this video is one of my most anticipated islands, Milos. Here I stayed in a really nice hotel with a great view of the harbour and mountain. Continuing with my hitchhiking, I managed to catch many rides across the island into the west where there are no roads and the homes look like you go back in time. What I loved about this part of the island is that it's an adventures paradise in a sea (no pun intended) of romance and couples. Here I hiked up to the highest point of the island with an insane view of the entire island and beyond.

FInding a ride back, I made my way over to Sarakiniko beach, a beach that has the landscape of the moon or even another planet. Here is one of the most unique beaches I've ever swam at. Concluding my time in Milos, I hitched my way over to Plaka, a big town in the north to wander around and finally catch one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen till this day. And of course, set off for my next island, Folegandros, in the next video.

The Islands of the Aegean, are incredible. :)
