12 Most Sacred Places

12 sacred sites from around the world each one holy to their respective religion like the strange Rat Temple or Kiyomizu Shrine

Subscribe to American Eye

5. Church of the Holy Sepulchre
This is considered to be the most holiest site for christians and is constructed on the site of Jesus’ supposed tomb also in the city of Jerusalem. It was from this location where Christians believe Jesus was buried and then resurrected. The church has been a major site of pilgrimage since it was built in the fourth century. Despite being damaged by fires and earthquakes, it’s been repaired quite a few time and an extremely sacred place of worship. The pilgrims come also to see a holy relic called the stone of unction which is believed to be the spot where Jesus was prepared for burial. Inside, a shrine lays over the entrance to the cave where jesus was believed to be buried that you see in this photo..

4. Lourdes, France
Located on the foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains in southwestern France, this city is home to many pilgrimages to people following the Catholic faith. In 1870, It’s here where a peasant girl by the name of Bernadette Soubirous allegedly saw the Virgin Mary at least 28 times. The Basilica Rosary is somewhat small but with impressive architecture and surprisingly does not contain the tomb of Bernadette On the 11th of February over 45,000 pilgrims visited this small city of about 15 thousand people and 6 million tourists from all over the world come here. The apparitions took place in a cave known as Massabielle and Bernadette was only 14 at the time. The Catholic Church acknowledged her visions as legitimate. The ones who do decide to make the journey here, hope to witness miracles and even be cured from illnesses or injuries.

3. Sahasralinga
This pilgrimage site is located about 10 miles from the Sirsi Taluk in the district of Uttara Kannada of the Karnataka state in India. Due to Shalmala river drying it up, it exposed thousands of these rocks carved in the language Sanskrit. Historians claim that these rocks were carved by orders of Sadashiva Raya who was the King of Sirsi during the end of the 17th century. These carvings were to honor the hindu god Shiva who is responsible of the creation, upkeep and will be responsible for the destruction of the world. The sheer quantity of the carvings is simply astounding and offer followers of the Hindu faith a place for their prayers.

2. Varanasi Along the Ganges
Considered to be the most holy site in the Hindu religion, Varanasi lies along the sacred Ganges River in India and is the spiritual capital of India. The river itself is considered to be a personified god Ganga Every morning, people wake up and wash their clothes in this river as well throw their dead relatives here as a sacred but not sanitary practice. Thousands of pilgrims each come here to attend religious ceremonies. Open cremations along banks of this river are a common occurrence that burn non stop and which is believed to grant people eternal salvation. The pollution has gotten out of control and has fecal matter content 3 times the safe level for bathing. Despite this, about 60 thousand people swim and even drink the water here each day, Hindus consider it to be a the most pure of all waters.

1.Kaaba, Mecca

► WHO AM I?

I am a Brazilian-American journalist living in Florida. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. So I exchanged life in the newsrooms and stadiums for the daily challenge of being an independent content producer. I created this channel to share the beauties of the world... stuff that for so long I only kept to myself. Also to help people planning similar trips and to inspire more people to venture out and enjoy life!

P.S.: The funny guy who appears in the vlogs is my husband, Gordon. He is Canadian-American and he's actually camera-shy, that's why he's behind the camera most of the time ????

Medina as Non Muslim - Solo Travel in Saudi Arabia المدينة المنورة المملكة العربية السعودية أجنبي

Medina is the second holiest city in Islam after Mecca, and one of the most visited places in Saudi Arabia. As a non Muslim, it was unsure whether I could travel to the city center, reading conflicting reports beforehand. I decided to check for myself, and found that I was allowed to visit everywhere, except inside the main mosque, the Al Masjid an Nawabi.

Medina is known as the City of the Prophet, and considered the second holiest site in Islam after Mecca. This is where Islam’s main Prophet, Muhammad, lived and was eventually laid to rest. All able Muslims are supposed to make the journey to Medina and Mecca once in their life.

This is the third episode of a 6 part vlog style series about my journey through Saudi Arabia. For other episodes, please click here:

Episode 1 - One Day in Riyadh:

Episode 2 - Journey to the Edge of the World:

Episode 4 - Umluj Islands in the Red Sea:

Episode 5 - Camel Racing in Saudi Arabia:

Episode 6 - Jeddah City Tour:

For a view of Saudi Arabia from above:

Saudi Arabia has long been off limits to foreign tourists and travelers. Since a few months, however, it’s possible to visit the country on a tourist visa. I made use of this opportunity and traveled solo to Saudi Arabia for 2 weeks, including Riyadh, the Edge of the World, Medina, Al Ula, Umluj, Jeddah and the Red Sea coast.

Saudi Arabia is mostly known in the ‘Western world’ for its petroleum export, the birthplace of the religion of Islam, and unfortunately also poor human rights record. But as I discover there is much more to this massive country than first meets the eye. In these series I hope to give a glimpse into what was once an almost ‘forbidden place’ for independent travelers, and is now open for visitors from around the world.

Note: I travel independently and take no money from sponsors. This journey through Saudi Arabia was paid for and organized entirely by myself.

We really didn't expect Putrajaya Malaysia to be so modern and beautiful.
Putrajaya is the administrative capital of Malaysia. Today we explore a city just outside of KL that very little people visit. Malaysia is increasingly becoming one of our favourite countries.

Worst RV Campground Ever // (And How we Saved our Weekend!)

***SHADY GROVE CAMPGROUND, DENVER PA***

One of our biggest camping fears came to life this past weekend as we pulled into possibly the worlds worst RV campground. While the spots were tight, the sewer connections were not and we found ourselves in a bad camping situation pretty quickly.

After a confusing run in with some of the seasonal campers, we decided it wasn't worth the stress we had to save our weekend - and in this case we only had one option. To hook our Shadow Cruiser Travel Trailer back up and head home.

Currently holding the record for our shortest camping trip (19 hours between check in and check out) it taught us a lot about vetting campgrounds, when to call it quits, and what red flags to look out for when looking for a place to camp with our travel trailer.

ISTANBUL TURKEY: TOP 21 UNMISSABLE Things To Do (MUST Watch Before Visiting!!!)

Istanbul Turkey: Top 21 Unmissable Things to do (Must watch before visiting!!!)

In this video, I share with you the top 21 things to do when in Istanbul Turkey. This is as close one can get to a full travel guide when in Istanbul, Turkey for at least one week.

Istanbul is a city that has so much to offer and if it is visited properly, it is unforgettable.

I begin this video by sharing my visit to Taksim Square and Istiklal Street. The first time I walked on Istiklal Street was quite memorable for me as I was impressed by how much there is to see in terms of shops, particularly food places.

After walking this street, the Galata Tower will appear and it is an absolute must-see if you are in Istanbul because of the fact that it is among the first landmarks you'll see when watching any video or viewing any photos of Istanbul. It is 1,000 years old and the views from above are spectacular.

Another great place I found was Balat. This is a special neighborhood where you can see colorful houses. It's just a nice spectacle and the area is surrounded by trendy cafes and restaurants.

When in Balat, I highly recommend you go and visit the tomb of the legendary Yavuz Sultan Selim's (Selim I) tomb and mosque. Sultan Selim I was the 9th Sultan (King) of the Glorious Ottoman Empire and the First among the Ottoman Sultans who became the Caliph of the entire Muslim world in the early part of the 16th Century. His Mosque is exquisitely designed and the views from up there are wonderful as the entire complex is built upon a hill.

Now if you are in Istanbul for only 3 days, it may be a good idea to stay in Fatih District because you can easily access the Basilica Cistern, Grand Bazaar, Sultan Ahmet/Blue Mosque, Topkapi Museum and the Byzantine Hippodrome as these are all within walking distance.

I highly recommend spending time at the Topkapi Palace Museum as it was used by the earlier Sultans of the Ottoman Empire when they moved to Istanbul after the Conquest of Constantinople in 1453. You can visit this palace and see incredible exhibits, rooms, and structures. The Topkapi Harem requires an additional ticket but it's well worth buying

Another good palace to visit is the Dolmabahce Palace, which was built around 400 years after Topkapi Palace and is another incredible palace as well as a museum to view.

Eyup Sultan's tomb and Cami is a must-see place because the tomb is occupied by the blessed companion of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Sayyidina Ayub al Ansari رضي الله عنه

The mosque of Eyup Sultan رضي الله عنه is immensely impressive and you can easily use the cable cars near to the tomb to get up to Pierre Loti Hill to get great views from above.

Rumeli Fortress is also an interesting place to visit because it was built a year before the Ottomans took Constantinople in 1453 and this fortress played a key role in achieving victory.

The Aya Sofia is also in the Fatih District and it's one of the greatest houses of worship and mosque you'll ever visit. This house of worship was first built by Prophet Suleiman/Soloman عليه السلام

I highly recommend everyone to visit the blessed tombs and mosques of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent and Fatih Sultan Mehmet (Mehmed the Conqueror) as these are very significant kings among the 36 Sultans from the Ottomans.

Lake of the Woods in Champaign County, IL

For more videos and slideshows of places around the world, visit:

Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve is a popular site located in a rolling wooded area near Mahomet, Illinois. This beautiful preserve occupies almost 900 acres along the corridor of the Sangamon River. Which IL Cities Are Attracting New Residents?

The Illinois Exodus is real; people are leaving the state every day, and many more are planning on it. In fact, 50% of people surveyed indicated that they had considered leaving the state within the last year. Despite that, there are actually some cities and towns within the Prairie state that are gaining residents. Is this interal migration, or are these people moving from other states? In this video, we explore the 10 places in Illinois with the highest percentage of growth and try to figure out what is causing the population growth. One caveat: this list does not contain Chicago suburbs, as those will be explored in a later video.

Driving Around Unique Small Town Monticello, IL in 4k Video

Filmed on Sunday, March 5, 2023, I drive around the village of Monticello, Illinois to see what's going on.

Monticello is a city in Piatt County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,941 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Piatt County.

Robert Allerton Park, which belongs to the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and includes 1,500 acres of woodland and prairie areas, a meadow, a conference and retreat center, formal sculpture gardens, hiking trails, lodging facilities, a summer camp location, and a Georgian style mansion, is located just outside Monticello, to the southwest. The Allerton Natural Area within the park was designated a National Natural Landmark in 1970.

Monticello Railway Museum is located on the north side of Monticello. The Monticello Railway Museum is a non-profit operating railroad that offers train rides to the public from May to October.

Monticello's first non-native resident was George Hayworth. Hayworth came to the area in 1822 to serve as a U.S. liaison agent to local Native American tribes. Hayworth did not remain, but in 1829, James A. Piatt purchased Hayworth's small log cabin. Soon more settlers arrived.

In 1837, residents decided to form a new town. Abraham Marquiss, William Barnes, James McReynolds, and James A. Piatt Jr. formed a joint stock company and purchased land from James A. Piatt. Upon McReynolds' suggestion, the town was christened Monticello – after the home of Thomas Jefferson. Monticello officially became a town on July 1, 1837.

The first house in the new town was built by a Mr. Cass who used the building as his home and a grocery store. The second house was a log cabin built by John Tenbrooke. In 1839, Nicholas DeVore built the Old Fort which was later used as a hotel. Monticello continued to grow as the population increased over the next decade.

The citizens of Monticello were unhappy with the distance required to travel to the county seat for their legal issues. Due to the petitions of George Patterson and others, a new county was established on January 27, 1841: Piatt County – named in honor the first permanent settler, James A. Piatt. As it was the only town in the area at that time, Monticello was named the county seat. The county began legal functions on April 5, 1841 in the Old Fort. In 1843, the first courthouse was built on land donated by William H. Piatt.

Monticello's star resident arrived in 1885. Dr. William B. Caldwell came to practice medicine in Monticello but his homemade mixture of senna and pepsin brought Monticello to a level of national prominence. The Pepsin Syrup Company was founded in 1893, and became the leading employer in the city for decades until its closure in 1985. The building in which it operated has since been demolished. The site is now used as an unofficial soccer practice field.

The Potawatomi Trail of Death passed through the town in 1838.

As of the census of 2000, there were 5,138 people, 2,146 households, and 1,446 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 99.01% White, 0.08% African American, 0.14% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.08% from other races, and 0.54% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.80% of the population.

The median income for a household in the city was $45,754, and the median income for a family was $57,287. Males had a median income of $41,074 versus $24,130 for females. The per capita income for the city was $23,257. About 2.3% of families and 3.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.6% of those under age 18 and 7.5% of those age 65 or over. #driving #travel #drivingtour
