With March Madness is full swing, we thought it would be fun to hold our own tournament and let our viewers select the Best City in West Virginia!
Over the next few weeks we will be releasing videos that each feature 2 West Virginia cities and our viewers will vote to determine the winner.

I spent two days with Harley as he gave me a private tour of the beautiful historic river town following up with this video interview on top of an ancient Indian burial mound where we talk about why Marietta is the most historic city in the state of Ohio.

The Sons and Daughters of Pioneer Rivermen was established in 1939 to perpetuate the memory of Pioneer Rivermen and for the preservation of river history.
This museum features three buildings of exhibits which focus on the history of the Ohio River and its importance relating to the expansion of our country, the Golden Age of the steamboat and the river’s natural history. The pride of the museum is the W.P. Snyder, Jr., the last of the steam-powered, stern wheeled towboats in the United States and a National Historic Landmark. Outside is the Tell City Pilot House, a flat boat reproduction, a restored shanty boat, and a series of poles showing the heights of some of the worst floods in recorded history to hit this area.

The Old B&O West End in the mid-1990's - Railroad History
This Throwback Thursday video looks back on the former Baltimore & Ohio Railroad's West End, the B&O's original mainline route from Baltimore to the Ohio Valley at Wheeling, West Virginia. The narrated slide show, with maps, contains scans of 35mm color slides I took with my colleague and friend, the late Harry Stegmaier, Jr. in 1995 and 1996 on day trips from our base in Frostburg, MD.

At the very beginning of the video, I cross into West Virginia at the Ohio River near Marietta, OH. After that, I head to Parkersburg, WV to check out the downtown area including sights of the Blennerhassett Hotel and the Wood County Courthouse. Later, I head to the park at the Ohio River where the Little Kanawha River empties into it.
The end of the video features some spectacular views of the Parkersburg area (and nearby Belpre, OH) from Fort Boreman Park.

Let's Drive! All of I-77 in West Virginia | West Virginia to Ohio | WV Highway Time Laps Drive
This time lapse driving video starts at the Virginia/West Virginia border and continues on Interstate 77 all the way to exit 179 near Parkersburg. See almost the entirety of I-77 in West Virginia sped up to about a 10 minute drive.
From Wikipedia: Interstate 77 (I-77) in the U.S. state of West Virginia is a major north–south Interstate Highway. It extends for 187.21 miles between Bluefield at the Virginia state line and Williamstown at the Ohio state line.
The highway serves Charleston, the capital and largest city in West Virginia; it also serves the cities of Princeton, Beckley and Parkersburg. I-77 uses the entire length of the West Virginia Turnpike, a toll road between Princeton and Charleston, and it runs concurrently with I-64 between Beckley and Charleston.
Historically, the West Virginia Turnpike was a two-lane road with treacherous curves and a tunnel (which has since been decommissioned). Construction began in 1952, several years before the Eisenhower Interstate System was funded. It was only in 1987 that the entire length of the turnpike was upgraded to Interstate standards. Due to the difficulty and lives lost in construction, it has been called 88 miles of miracle.
