Located in Macoupin County Illinois 7 miles southwest of Carlinville and situated in an oak/hickory woodland, Beaver Dam State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities on its 750 acres. Fishing, picnicking, hiking, and tent and trailer camping are among the most popular activities. Although beaver are virtually gone from this area, the park is named for a beaver dam that created its lake.
Archery Range
An archery range is located across from the concession and may be used free of charge. Archers must bring their own bow and arrows. Broadhead points are not allowed. All archers under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Concession
The Plainview Winery Cafe is a full-service restaurant with indoor and outdoor deck seating located on the edge of the beautiful lake. The restaurant is open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 7 pm and Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 8pm, closed on Tuesday. The Cafe can be reached at 217-854-6688.
Fishing
Beaver Dam State Park’s 59-acre lake, which has a maximum depth of 10 feet and 1.7 miles of shoreline, is a great fishing destination. Over the years, the lake has been stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, sunfish and channel catfish. A free boat launch and docks are available for public use. No gasoline engines are allowed, only electric trolling motors. Check the information kiosk display for daily catch and size limits.
Hiking Trails
Approximately 8 miles of hiking trails within Beaver Dam State Park encircle the lake, lead past the marsh, and extend through various wooded areas in the park.
Hunting
Spring Turkey, Archery Deer, Squirrel and Furbearer trapping are available at Beaver Dam during the regulated seasons.

Picnicking
The picnic area at Beaver Dam State Park, with picnic tables and barbecue grills provided (or picnickers may bring their own grills), features four pavilions that can be reserved by using ReserveAmerica.
Playground
The Beaver Dam playground is located in the picnic area.
Winter Activities
When conditions are suitable, ice fishing and ice skating are permitted. Adequate snow cover permits cross-country skiing and sledding.
NEVADA STATE PARKS ROAD TRIP (WITH OUR DOGS) - Cathedral Gorge, Kershaw Ryan, Beaver Dam State Park
If you head roughly 3 hours north of Las Vegas, Nevada, you'll reach a grouping of state parks nestled in the sparsely populated middle of nowhere, Nevada. Within less than an hour of one another, you can visit Spring Valley, Echo Canyon Cathedral Gorge, Beaver Dam, Kershaw-Ryan, and the Elgin Schoolhouse.
We camped in Kershaw Ryan State Park and were able to easily visit and hike through Kershaw Ryan State Park, Cathedral Gorge State Park, and Beaver Dam State Park all within a two day weekend (driving in Saturday morning, and arriving home Sunday night).
The fees to enter and camp in each park are located at and are on a first come, first serve basis and work on the honor system (no park ranger is there to accept the fees usually).
Make sure you get a Nevada State Parks Passport before you visit! Check out for locations where you can pick one up or call (775) 684-2770 to have one mailed to you free of charge.
**If you present your passport with 15 different stamps to any park employee, you will get a free entrance pass to all Nevada State Parks for an entire year!**

BEAVER DAM - USFS Campground Minden LA
Beaver Dam USFS Campground in Minden, LA was a great overnight stay. It is on Caney Lake in the Kisatchie National Forest. There are a total of 29 campsites. Some are reservable, some are first come first served. Sites have 20, 30 and 50 amp electric and water. I found this campground 2 years ago on Recreation.Gov
I am a single female traveling full time with my 2 Yorkies Dee Dee and Ziggy. I have a 2012 Airstream Flying Cloud 20c. She is small but the perfect home on wheels for me. Since there is no place like home, that’s how she got her name, Dorothy. It follows naturally to name my channel Following the Yellow Brick Road.
