PLOVDIV Things To Do in the first city of BULGARIA to be awarded European City of Culture

Are you visiting Plovdiv in Bulgaria soon? If so this travel video is for you to give you ideas of Plovdiv things to see and what to do in Plovdiv Bulgaria.

This video is a cinematic style travel video of the historic city of Plovdiv in Bulgaria.

Plovdiv was the European Capital of Culture Plovdiv 2019. The fascinating and historic city of Plovdiv is the first Bulgarian city to be chosen as European Capital of Culture.

In this travel video of Plovdiv highlights include the ancient Roman Amphitheater and various areas of Plovdiv including Kapana (literally translated as and also know as The Trap), an area of Plovdiv well known for the variety of street art.

This is my second video on Plovdiv in Bulgaria, Europe The link to my first Plovdiv Youtube video can be found below.

See my first impressions video of arriving in Plovdiv here:

Plovdiv is one of europe's oldest towns and buried under the Main Street is a huge ancient Roman amphitheatre that used to sit 30,000 people. Part of it has been dug up so go and have a look at it and part of it is used as an theatre for cultural events such as singing and dancing performances.

The FREE Plovdiv Walking Tour takes place daily, and is full of fascinating facts. It's a great way to orientate yourself and find out lots of information about Plovdiv and will also give you useful insights into the history of Bulgaria including some of the buildings.

Because Plovdiv is an old city it has a lot of history and culture, in fact last year in 2019 it was the European city of Culture.

Apart from visiting the amphitheater another great passtime is to wander the cobbled pavements of the trap or Kapana enjoying the street art, walk the streets of Ancient Plovdiv which is an Architectural Reserve and soak up some of the ancient atmosphere, visit the ruins of nebet tepe, make a wish at one of the statues of Plovdiv, enjoy the colourful singing fountains of Plovdiv and climbing Bunarjik Hill for sunset. Bunarjik Hill is home to Aloysha which is the Monument of the Unknown Soviet Soldier.

One Day In European Capital Of Culture | Exploring Plovdiv

In this video I continued my journey around Bulgaria, and the next stop was Plovdiv. We've visited this gorgeous place for just one day, but it was really full of discoveries. Let's check this place together!

PLOVDIV Bulgaria - First Impressions of European City of Culture

SEPTEMBER 2019 After our bus journey from Istanbul, we arrived in Plovdiv in the afternoon, ready to explore this ancient city.

The first thing to do in a new country is normally to get some local currency, so that was on our agenda. We had a wander around, ate a doner kebab/shwarma (of course!) and were delighted to see the evening fountain show!

There will be two more Plovdiv videos, with more details and information about this fascinating city... so keep watching for more!

Best of Plovdiv - the former European Capital of Culture

Plovdiv was named European Capital of Culture 2019 and is one of the oldest city in Europe, dating back to 4000 B.C

It´s two hours away from the Bulgarian capital Sofia and four hours from the Black Sea.
The City of 7 hills, this is how Plovdiv called, because it was built at the foot of seven hills.

The Ancient Roman Theatre in Plovdiv is one of the best-preserved ancient theatres in the world. Today it´s used for for operas, plays and rock concerts.

It is not uncommon for great singers to perform here in the summer and the shows in the evening are beautiful with all its lights.
The oldest building in Plovdiv is the Dzhumaya mosque. This mosque is still used.

The region around Plovdiv is famous for Red wine production.

Amphtheater:
The remains of the former Roman stadium lie to this day at a depth of several meters below the city center.

Oldtown
Ancient Plovdiv Architectural Reserve is a well-preserved complex where on a relatively small area visitors can take walks through different historical ages, see ancient buildings adapted to the modern way of life

During Antiquity, the Thracians came to the hill and set up a fortified settlement that was conquered by Philip of Macedonia in the 2nd century BC. He gave one of the many names of the town

Some of the more interesting sites from the Roman Period are the Roman Theatre, the Roman Stadium, the Ancient Forum, and Irene Residential House.
You can explore the historic old town in a Free Walking Tour.

Hisar Kapija
Very well preserved are the remains of the city fortifications and the city gate Hisar Kapija. Also here are impressive houses that you can visit.

Here you can see one of the most beautiful houses in the old town, which today houses the collections of the Plovdiv Ethnological Museum.

Singing Fountains
In the lovely Tsar Simeon garden ist he inging (musical) fountain on the lake.
During the summer months you can watch the colourful light display accompanied by classical music from 21:00.

Sights:
-The creative quarter Kapana
- Alyosha Monument

Trip to Plovdiv city this summer

Facebook : TERRA STUIO'S

Plovdiv - European Cultural Capital 2019

In 2019, we did a train Trip through the Balkans, and we stayed two months in the beautiful Bulgarian City called Plovdiv - the oldest city in Europe - European cultural capital 2019 - and one of the most interesting cities I have ever visited.

We visited in 2019 and despite the Cultural Capital that year it luckily hasn't been overcrowded with tourists like too many European countries yet.

We have been hiking the six hills - enjoyed the food truck festivals - enjoyed vegan food and life music in the streets in summer.

We sure did bring our reusable cups and cutlery for street food and reusable bulk bags for shopping to avoid/reduce single use plastic trash.

The Rhodope Mountains are just half an hour drive away to do some amazing hikes.
