Vlog 29 Solo Trip to Colombia | Turn Up in Cartagena & Playa Blanca

Is the most BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN COLOMBIA a tourist trap? ???????? COLOMBIA TRAVEL

Playa Blanca is the most popular day trip from Cartagena. And while it undoubtedly is the most beautiful beach on mainland Colombia, it is also controversial for its well documented scams.
I stayed on Isla Baru, just down the beach from Playa Blanca on Playa Tranquila and was able to see how to beach changed as tourists flooded it each day and have advice on how to avoid scams, the price for things and where to eat the best coastal food.

You can support my work at where I share tips that don't make it to videos and behind the scenes content.

TRAVEL VLOG TO CARTAGENA, COLOMBIA 2023: VOLCAN TOTUMO, ISLA BARU, NIGHTLIFE, SALSA AND MORE!

I visited Cartagena, Colombia in January 2023 and had the best time. It was my second time in the city but I fell in love with it all over again. From walking through the colorful streets of Getsemani, to a Colombian cooking class, salsa class, experiencing the nightlife, a mud bath experience in Volcan Totumo, eating at lovely restaurants and island hopping, this 7-day trip was one for the books.

TRAVEL GUIDE: I wrote a very travel guide for those who are traveling to Cartagena, it includes links to every tour I did, and helpful travel tips to know. I also linked to hotels, transportation and more. It is free. Read my blog post on Cartagena here:

Finding Paradise In COLOMBIA | Islas Del Rosario

If you are looking for an island adventure in the Caribbean coast of Colombia, look no further than the beautiful Rosario Islands just off the coast of Cartagena. From luxury resorts to simple eco hotels, these islands really do have it all. I stayed on the main island which is called Grand Isle at Secreto Hostel. There are a lot of different beaches to check out, go snorkeling, kayaking, biking and just disconnect from every day (quite literally, there's not a lot of cell reception here!). Join me for a tour around these beautiful islands and comment your thoughts in the comments! xx

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads):

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.*

Cartagena, Colombia Travel Vlog (Things To Do, What To Eat, etc.)

I already know I'm not the only one excited to be traveling again. Things opened up again and I hit the ground running as far as booking trips. I want to get my Cartagena vlog up before I head to my next destination, Tulum, Mexico. Cartagena is a beautiful place to visit, it's quite safe, and easy to navigate. There's lots to do and see and it can be pretty inexpensive too.

Places to Visit in Cartagena || Cartagena City || Cartagena Colombia

Cartagena is the habanero of Caribbean beach cities: so spicy!

Shot on the Canon G7X with obviously no use of a tripod, steadycam, crane or anything. It's barely handheld.

Now back to Cartagena, here are some more tips:

1)Walk The Old City
There are three main neighbourhoods in old Cartagena: Centro, San Diego, and Getsemani. Walk every street (and we mean EVERY street) by foot. Morning and evenings are the best time for exploring.

2) Get To Getsemani
Real people live in this old neighbourhood, which is what makes it more alive than Centro or San Diego. Street art = worth an afternoon. Go back to the Plaza de Trinidad at night.

3) Museums
We went to the (free) Museo de Oro and the Palacio de la Inqusicion.

4) Eat
Crazy fruits you should try: lulo, zapote, maracuya, granadilla, caimito, guanabana, and mamoncillo. Don’t want to buy from streetcarts? Try them as juices. Other meals: seafood is king in Cartagena and ceviche some of the best we’ve had. Green plantain chips or fried in a mash are a must try.

5) Beaches
Bocagrande is right in the heart of the city, but the water isn’t great. So we went to Isla del Encanto, which was very expensive, but private and guarded so you don’t have to worry about your belongings. Charter a private boat to the Islas de Rosario if you want a customized trip.

6) Sunset on the Wall
Iconic Cartagena experience? You got it. Cafe del Mar is a good place to sit, or just buy a couple beers from the wall vendors and claim your own piece of wall. Drinking in public is legal in Cartagena.

7) La Popa
There’s a convent on top. Because this is the highest part of the city, you get great views. Do not try to walk up the hill. Take a cab or a Chiva Bus.

8) Castillo de San Felipe
Yup. It’s a real castle and it’s f*cking hot in the day, so go right when it opens in the morning. There’s a giant flag at the very top.

9) Las Palenqueras
The fruit ladies are everywhere! Don’t be a dick: buy something or tip them for a photo.

10) Bocagrande
This was our last stop in the city - it’s like Miami Beach meets Puerto Vallarta.

Vlog # 96: Playa Blanca in Cartagena | Travel Vlog

Wednesday, June 22, 2022:
.
Hey YouTube friends,
This is my Day 3 vlog of my adventure in Cartagena, Colombia . I’d explored Colombia for 5 days.
.
????So this glamorous public Caribbean beach is located about 66 minutes outside of Cartagena if you’d leave the walled city before 8 AM ish on a weekday.
.
????All you need is $150,000 Colombia Pesos that’s equivalent to approximately $33 USD. (The exchange rate obviously may be subject to change).
.
????This superb budget can get you a round trip transportation, an authentic Colombian lunch, a few exotic extra stiff super duper yummy tasty drinks ???????????? and a cabana to rest it up.
.
????Be sure to go into the Caribbean’s Sea blue salt water ???? heard it can help keep your skin naturally tight and slowly prevent joint pain. If all this is true I’m swinging by the beach more frequently now. ????
.
Thank you for virtually exploring with me!
.
My detailed itinerary can be found in my travel blog.

ALL OUT Cartagena - Dating BEAUTIFUL Latinas in Colombia

Colombian women captivate foreign men with their combination of beauty, family values, as well as loyalty. Many foreign men pursue the idea of starting lifelong love stories with Colombian women only because most Latinas have irresistible beauty. The number of foreigners seeking Latina women for marriage increases every year, along with their popularity among single men searching for life partners.

Colombia is a country full of diversity. Just walking around Colombian cities like Cartagena is a great experience. There are numerous reasons why so many foreign bachelors travel to Cartagena in the hopes of finding love with beautiful Colombian girls who call this magic city their home. Healthy relationships are what Colombian women are pursuing. Thus, a typical Colombiana desires to start a family with a faithful man.

Most Latinas in Colombia hesitate to engage in local dating as the majority of unwed Latinos have little interest in changing their status in the near future. Many Latinas find that Colombian culture discourages men from pursuing monogamy in favor of taking on several Cartagena women as romantic partners. This is the main reason why plenty of bad relationships often make Colombian women seek out foreign men.

International dating opens the door for many men by creating rapport with these Colombian women. Meanwhile, marriage and matchmaking agencies continue to create numerous opportunities that foreign men, as well as women in Cartagena both, find quite appealing. Matchmaking services organize meet and greet events where introductions take place throughout Colombia.

Cartagena Fort in Colombia - Castillo San Felipe de Barajas

Carmen and Dave from take you on a visit around Cartagena Fort in Colombia.

Blog:
It’s a constant conundrum for a digital nomad – you have to work but you want to explore too. But it’s par for the course in this lifestyle so I combined them as best I could with this view:

That’s the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas, Cartegena’s majestic fort built between 1536 and 1767 that guards the entrance to the city’s harbour from marauding pirates, privateers and buccaneers.

At least it used to – these days this bastion of Spanish colonial power gets invaded every day by hordes of tourists and is one of the major attractions for the city.

But I had work to do, so I sat up on the rooftop terrace of our hotel in the bohemian neighbourhood of Gethsemane and enjoyed the view. Every time I looked away from my computer screen there it was, sharpened by the morning sun, bleached by the high midday and silhouetted by the afternoon’s decline.

Carmen and I were like wolves, only going out a night in Cartegena to enjoy the bars and restaurants and vibrant street life. Then every day was spent doing the digital nomad thing – it’s almost like a proper job!

Almost. Finally I'd had enough. “We have to go to this bloody fort,” I told Carmen and she agreed. It was getting a little ridiculous and our failure to do any sightseeing in Cartagena meant we were failing to live up to the work – life split we wanted.

I Asked Colombians Why They're so Lazy (Santa Marta)

Colombians often say that the people from Santa Marta and the rest of the Colombian Coast are extremely lazy and don't like to work.

That's one stereotype (along with a few others) that I'll be asking the locals of Santa Marta in this video.
