Farewell UNITED Boeing 747! We will miss you!

To celebrate the end of 45 years of service we put together some footage from the United Boeing 747 at San Francisco.
San Francisco was where United operated its 1st 747 flight in 1972 bound for Honolulu. San Francisco was also the place where the very last regular flight landed this past Sunday as UA892 from Seoul and, last but not least, San Francisco will be the place where United operates its final flight on November 7th on the very same route as the 1st flight, to Honolulu.
The clips you see are from our San Francisco Airport film, the full program can be found at

**THUMBNAIL: Thanks to Simeon Lüthi **

Our trip to San Francisco begins today in the terminal at Frankfurt International Airport. We make our way to our gate, Z25, where our beautiful aircraft is waiting for us. After a secondary security check and document check we board our aircraft and take our seat in row 53. Before long we are welcomed onboard by our captain, Molly Flanagan, who welcomes us aboard 'this beautiful Boeing 747, which we have the privilege of flying to San Francisco today'. We soon push back from the stand and the mighty engines power into life, before we taxi to runway 25C. We make a heavy climb out, before making a right turn to head towards Germany's north coast. We fly north over the North Sea, before hitting the east coast of Greenland around 3.5 hours into the flight. We are treated to fantastic views of the mountains in the east of Greenland, before heading across the enormous Greenland Ice Sheet, which is 680 miles wide. After we cross Greenland's west coast, we fly over Baffin Island, Canada, and get some amazing views of Canada's frozen north. We head down across the Northwest Territories towards Yellowknife, before the ground gradually changes from ice to rock, and eventually plains as we fly over Alberta. We get a great view of Edmonton, and Banff National Park. From there we head into the US over Washington which is cloudy. The cloud clears again as we pass into Oregon, giving us great views of the Beaver State. We head towards the border with California, crossing more beautiful scenery as we head south. We commence our descent and are soon getting a wonderful view of San Francisco. We pass the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, downtown and the entire bay area all within a few minutes. We then make a sweeping left turn over the mountains, taking a visual approach to runway 28R. We approach over the bay and touch down very smoothly on runway 28R. We then exit the runway and taxi into the terminal, disembarking through the forward doors and saying goodbye to Captain Molly Flanagan as we leave the aircraft. We head to CBP (passport control) and then through the baggage claim and customs, emerging from the airport on a beautiful sunny evening.

UA747 SFO Departure Full Roll HD [2017-11-07]

The full takeoff roll of UA747, the final United Airlines 747 passenger flight, including ATC audio from LiveATC.net. We took an unusual departure path out of SFO, with a low pass over the Golden Gate Bridge before turning left to head to Hawaii.

You can hear the conversation between the pilot and ATC about the non-standard routing. Not heard here is a Cathay 777 that was held on the runway because of our path; they were less amused than we were. You can also hear some of the pax on board get excited about the views.

Thanks to United Airlines for inviting me along and covering my ticket costs for the event!

Takeoff from SFO on United’s Last 747 Flight; Gorgeous Low Flight over S.F. & the Golden Gate

After a 50-minute delay due to faulty air-conditioning, United Flight 747, the airline’s Boeing 747 retirement voyage from San Francisco (SFO) to Honolulu (HNL), takes off at noon from Runway 28R and flies low (about 2,500 feet) over the city before banking left over the Golden Gate and out to the Pacific Ocean. Absolutely wonderful views of San Francisco on this beautiful afternoon.

The Final International Voyage of a United Boeing 747 Is Now Complete; No Special Arrival Ceremony

Passengers disembark United Airlines Flight 892 at San Francisco (SFO) after its arrival from Seoul Incheon (ICN) – the final international voyage of a United Boeing 747. It’s hard to imagine there will never again be a United B747 foreign flight arrival. One can only imagine how many hundreds of thousands – or perhaps even millions – of times that this scene has taken place since United received its first 747 in August 1970, 47 years ago.

I walk off the jetway at SFO Gate B96 and into the arrivals corridor. There is no special welcome for us. No pomp and circumstance. You have to look through a frosted window to the boarding area to see the Boeing 747. It’s kind of a bummer there’s nowhere to even get a picture of the jumbo jet after its final international arrival. I was hoping there would be a balloon archway, gift bags, or something special as we emerge from the final United 747 international flight. But passengers just walk off the jetway into the international arrivals corridor and that’s that.

SFO Gate 86 Prepared for Final Voyage of a United Boeing 747

It's the night before United Airlines' grand finale Boeing 747 flight from San Francisco (SFO) to Honolulu (HNL). Gate 86 has been set up with banners, gift bags, a stage, a 747 timeline, and 1970s vintage jumbo-jet lounge furnishings.

I'm on standby for the Queen of the Skies' retirement voyage after 47 years in the United fleet -- and I would learn about 90 minutes after shooting this video that I've been confirmed for the flight! I'm in total AvGeek heaven tonight. :-)

United 747 Farewell

This video is about United 747 Farewell

Boarding United’s Boeing 747 Retirement Flight from SFO to HNL

The captain of United Airlines’ last Boeing 747 passenger flight makes remarks at San Francisco (SFO) Gate 86, then at 10:37 a.m. I board United Flight 747 bound for Honolulu (HNL). I’m handed a vintage United ticket envelope at the jetway entrance, which contains a souvenir ticket of this momentous journey. There’s also a small card with facts and figures about the Boeing 747 jumbo jet, which United is retiring today after 47 years of the fleet’s service.

As I wait in the jetway to step aboard the 747, I check the seat map on the United app. There’s a crazy number of open seats showing now – I count 74 – for a flight that was supposedly sold out months ago. So crazy. Yet none of the 13 passengers standing by have been cleared. I don’t understand what is going on.

Members of the media are escorted through the jetway to walk down the exterior stairs onto the tarmac to film and photograph the plane’s departure.

As I board the 747 retirement flight, United’s executive chef is standing on the staircase to the upper deck. Even in Economy Class, United Polaris pillows and blankets are on each seat as well as a special menu and a 747 farewell gift bag.

United's final 747 flight

United threw a fantastic retirement party for its Boeing jumbo, recreating its first journey with the airline in 1970. Everything on the flight from San Francisco to Honolulu was retro, from the food to the uniforms - even the IFE! The flight was so exciting, one passenger popped the question

United Airlines Boeing 747 Farewell by SPEEDBIRDHD

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've uploaded. Today marks the end of an era as United retired its 747s after 47 years of service. The clip showed are UA 747 clips that I've collected over the years. As you know, UA 747-400s had stopped flying to LAX for a long while. These clips are from years ago, prior to 2012. Hope you enjoy my video!
