Floating Market Bangkok - Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง)

Visit for more travel and food!

There are many floating markets scattered throughout Bangkok. Though markets where vendors sold things directly from their boats in the canals was once a daily life activity, nowadays floating markets in Bangkok are mostly used as a way to escape the annoyance of city life and spend a day relaxing.

One of the coolest markets these days is Talad Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง), a floating market that sets up on the weekends just south of Bangkok in an area called Phra Pradaeng.

Bang Nam Pheung is a wonderful place to spend the day browsing, shopping and of course, eating as much Thai food as possible.

In the course of the video I'll take you on a little tour of the market to give you an idea of what to expect when you go.

I stopped to enjoy a delicious bowl of Thai noodles filled with ivy gourd leaves and also samples a dish of rice topped with smoked oven roasted pork. They food was served from a floating boat, but it was more of a permanent setting - but that was alright!

Gac fruit is very popular at the market and a trip to Bang Nam Pheung floating market (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) wouldn't be complete without purchasing a bottle to sample. Big bottles cost 35 THB while small bottles run 20 THB. I thought it was extremely delicious, a refreshing taste of sweet tomato and papaya.

To get to the floating market you can either take a taxi directly there, or you can go the more adventurous route.

Here are further directions - it's easiest to come this route via Bangkok's Sukhumvit road.

Take a taxi to Wat Bang Na Nawk (วัดบางนานอก) which is a temple which is located on the river.

Take the the ferry boat across the river - it only goes one place and the cost is just 4 THB.

Get on the back of a motorbike taxi and they will take you straight to the doorstep of the floating market. There will be many others taking motorbikes to the market as well, so there's no getting lost. Cost is 10 THB per person.

Opening Hours: Saturday and Sunday from 8 am - 2 pm, I showed up at about 11 am.

Time: The market is quite large so plan for about 2 - 4 hours of leisure browsing including lunch.

Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) - Bangkok Bike Tour of Phra Pradaeng (and Lunch)

A Bangkok bike tour of Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) in Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) makes an excellent day trip. Read more of my Bangkok travel tips here:

Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), or the larger area of Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง), is known as Bangkok's green lunch. It's not an island, but it's a section of land that's separated from major Bangkok by being within a horseshoe in the river. The piece of land is just across the river from Bangkok city, but it's such a world of difference. Characterized by trees, green spaces, low homes and neighborhoods, and a network of canals and elevated walking paths creates the perfect environment for a Bangkok bike tour. The first step getting to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) is to first take a taxi to Wat Khlong Toei Nok temple, located in the Khlong Toei area of Bangkok and right along the Chao Phraya river. For just 10 baht you can then board a small boat that will ferry you across the Chao Phraya to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), a whole new world. The ride takes just a few minutes.

Once you've arrived to Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า), you can then rent a bicycle as soon as you get off the boat. The bikes for rent cost 50 Thai Baht per hour or 100 Thai Baht per day - I think it's worth it to go for the whole day - and you might end up staying longer than you expected - so go for the day rental! After getting out trusty bicycles ready, we started off following the road enroute to the main park that's located within Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า). It took just about 10 minutes or less to reach the designated park where you can enter and ride and walk around for free. The park is nicely maintained and there's a large lake in the middle. But the park is not the only place to ride in Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง). One of my favorite parts of the area is riding along the elevated concrete paths. They are raised above the ground as the ground can be muddy and flooded, but the paths provide an awesome form of transportation. They are just wide enough to have a Bangkok bike tour on them comfortably. Another interesting aspect of biking around are the many temples which are all around. You can stop off at a variety of temples when you're biking along. Also, if you go to Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) on the weekend, you can bike to Bang Nam Pheung (ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง) floating market ( After biking around for a few hours we decided to stop at a relaxing restaurant for some Thai food lunch. There are many Thai restaurants to eat at throughout Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) when you're taking a Bangkok bike tour - you'll have no problem finding food or drinks.

A Bangkok bike tour of Bang Krachao (บางกระเจ้า) and Phra Pradaeng (พระประแดง) is one of the best things to do in Bangkok! It's a great affordable attraction and offers not only some exercise from all the Thai street food, but also a time to relax and enjoy nature.

Snakehead Fish at Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market - Bangkok Day 4

2 Weeks In Bangkok eBook (it’s FREE):
T-shirts available now:

On Day 4 of this 2 Weeks In Bangkok video guide series we went to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม), which is one of my favorite floating markets in Bangkok - for the food and atmosphere.

00:37 Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) - When it comes to floating markets in Bangkok, and there are quite a few of them, Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) is one of my personal favorites. I love it for the variety and abundance of delicious food, and for the great lush and green atmosphere. Even though it’s still located in Bangkok, the market feels like you’re far removed, and it doesn’t feel like you’re so close to the city. There is a lot of delicious food to eat at the floating market, but one of my favorite things to eat, and something you shouldn’t miss either, is pla chon pao (ปลาช่อนเผา), which is a grilled snakehead fish. Despite it looking a little on the scary side, it’s really an awesome fish, similar in taste to a catfish, but more meaty and not quite as rubbery. It was a really good snakehead fish at the floating market this time - cooked so it was nice and moist. We also ate a plate of goong ob woon sen (กุ้งอบวุ้นเส้น), another excellent Thai seafood dish of mung bean noodles and big freshwater shrimp cooked in a personal pot. After having lunch at the floating market, we then decided to take a boat ride tour, which just costs 50 THB per person, which is a great deal. The boat ride tour was actually quite entertaining and was definitely worth it. If you go to Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม), I’d highly recommend the boat tour along with all the delicious food.

16:35 Dinner at Saw Nah Wang (ร้าน ส.หน้าวัง) - After getting back to our hotel near Khao San road, we took a little rest and then headed out for dinner to a restaurant called Saw Nah Wang (ร้าน ส.หน้าวัง). The main dish to eat at this restaurant is pad mee krached ruam (ผัดหมี่กระเฉดรวม), stir fried rice noodles with water mimosa. They make it so well, and it’s always delicious - especially if you like stir fried noodles, it’s a great dish.

16:34 Saphan Phut Market (สะพานพุทธ) - After going to the floating market in the morning, we decided to continue the Bangkok markets at night and we headed to Saphan Phut Market (สะพานพุทธ), which is a Thai youth clothing and hang out market. The market is always lively at night, and tonight was no different. There’s not a lot to do there, but if you’re interested in Thai youth culture, it’s a good place to visit.

21:00 Pak Khlong Talad (ปากคลองตลาด) - Known in Thai as Pak Khlong Talad (ปากคลองตลาด), or as the flower market Bangkok, it’s a giant flower distribution market that’s open 24 hours a day in Bangkok. But the best time to go is at night, and even the best time in around midnight to 3 am or so when the market is at its busiest. We got there around 10 pm and there were still plenty of flowers to see, and it was a good last stop of the night.

Day 4, visiting Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) and eating the snakehead fish, as well as visiting a few other local markets in Bangkok, was another fun day in Bangkok.

THAILAND Walking Tour: Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market

Located in Bang Krachao, Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market offers a local vibe where most of the visitors are people from the local communities as well as Thai people in general. The market hasn't been as much advertised to foreigners as other markets like Damnoen Saduak or Amphawa despite its opening since 2004. Being surrounded by a residential neighborhood and located along a small canal, visitors can truly feel the unique lifestyle in Bang Nam Phueng. Visitors can rent a canoe by the side of the market to explore the bigger parts of the canal. It will allow you to see a vivid rainforest as well as local houses along the canal. Bang Nam Phueng also offers art and music activities which make it enjoyable for both tourists and family. Children can enjoy painting plaster figures in the shape of their favorite cartoon characters. Parents and adults can enjoy local live concerts and music playing or simply dive into shopping among various choices of products. Like all floating markets, Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market is famous for its food. There are many types of food in different forms including fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, dried shrimps, ready-to-eat dishes, and fruits. One of the most famous products, though, is mango. Seasonal tropical fruits are available in all different seasons such as rambutan, durian, rose apple, and mangosteen.

Great Bangkok Street Food in Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market. Thailand

instragram: settime2588

Bang Nam Phueng Floating Market lies around 14.5 km southeast of central Bangkok . It' s a riverside market, with several boats parked along the banks and stalls on solid ground. It's located in an unusual loop of the Chao Phraya River, nicknamed 'the Green Lung of Bangkok'. Despite being quite close to Bangkok, this surprisingly untouched area is covered with vegetation and traditional homes. Rows of low tables are set along the riverbank under a long and thatched roof. Bang Nam Phueng Market is surprisingly authentic as it's mostly frequented by locals.
Just like Khlong Lat Mayom floating market, as soon as you arrive, you’ll immediately be surrounded by little thatch covered stalls selling a wide range of random things. The market is surrounded by lush forest and tropical greenery. Often the foot paths are elevated above water with trees, vines and shrubs all adding to the wonderful atmosphere. You can see some vendors boiling noodles or barbecuing satay’s directly from their boats and you’ll find all kinds of snacks and goods in nicer packaging than what would normally be presented on the streets. The weekend market Bang Nam Pheung is a chance to discover and sample local foods, sweets and unusual fruits. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant and people are very friendly. It's a nice spot for experiencing a village lifestyle.
Thai floating markets ,especially for Bangkok residents, are the perfect way to forget about city life and to escape from work and busy city life for the day – a Thai tourist attraction just on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Thai Suki - Healthy Thai Food (สุกี้น้ำ / สุกี้แห้ง)

Check out my Thai street food guide: and also my travel and street food website here

As I'm sure you know, the world of Thai food is extremely diverse with so many different dishes and flavors to offer. When I'm strolling around Bangkok and I'm in the mood for something a little lighter and a healthy Thai food I sometimes choose a dish known as Thai suki (or sukiyaki). There are two different variations: suki nam (สุกี้น้ำ) and suki haeng (สุกี้แห้ง).

Suki nam (สุกี้น้ำ) is the soup version of Thai suki. The dish begins with a ladle of broth or water that's initially boiled before adding a handful of fresh vegetables, whatever meat of choice you chose (I often like shrimp), glass noodles, a variety of sauces and light seasonings, and finally an egg on the top for extra protein. The suki is then boiled for just a few moments to cook everything perfectly and then added to a bowl before being served.

Suki haeng (สุกี้แห้ง) is virtually the same thing as suki nam, just it's the dry version, so more of a stir fry instead of a soup. The same healthy ingredients are added and stir fried in a wok until fully cooked. It's then served the same way. I like both versions.

Now most Thai people would eat suki plain without a side of rice, but since I love rice so much, I simply can barely handle eating a meal without rice, so I always get a plate of rice on the side and then eat my suki on top of the rice. So now that you know the main ingredients of what goes into Thai suki (สุกี้), there's one more important thing to know about: the sauce - what I consider of utmost importance to the dish - it's known in Thai as just suki sauce. The sauce is dark red like ketchup, but it's packed with lots more flavor. The ingredient that makes it so red is normally some kind of tofu extract, the same ingredient used in Thai yen ta fo noodle soup ( A host of other ingredients are also added and finally a scoop of raw crushed garlic and fresh chopped chillies are added to create the perfect suki sauce with a kick.

So the next time you're in the mood for a healthy Thai food that tastes great and isn't greasy, make sure you order a bowl of Thai suki (สุกี้) in either soup or dry form - you're going to love it!

Thank you for watching!

Thai Grilled Chicken - Gai Yang (ไก่ย่าง)

Grab a copy of my Eating Thai Food Guide here: and check out my travel and street food website

It would be virtually impossible to say anything negative about Thai grilled chicken, known as Gai Yang (ไก่ย่าง). It's available all over the streets from Bangkok to Chiang Mai to Nakhon Pathom, and you'll be able to smell the luscious aroma of grilled chicken smoke from hundreds of meters away.

So for today's video I was in Nakhon Pathom, about an hour outside of central Bangkok, a city that happens to be famous for their Gai Yang (ไก่ย่าง). It can be found across the city, being grilled up and then laying on banana leaves waiting to be purchased. Believe me, every time you walk past, you'll be tempted to purchase. And that's exactly what happened to me, I had no intention of eating Thai grilled chicken that day, but the fumes and the juicy looking chicken thighs were all I need to lure me in. Soon I found myself choosing a big fat chicken piece and my mouth was drooling for a taste.

There are a few different marinades for Thai Grilled Chicken Gai Yang (ไก่ย่าง). This version, that's widely available in Nakhon Pathom is first soaked in turmeric (to make it orange), fish sauce, salt, garlic, and some kind of sugar to make it slightly sweetened. Once the chicken has been marinated, it's then attached to a bamboo stick. It's then thrown on the hot fire and roasted until done, but not overcooked to the point where it's dry. The great thing about the chicken vendor I bought from was that she had hand grilled every piece to perfection. I think she took some real care in her grilled chicken.

Along with my choice of chicken piece, which was fresh off the grill and still hot, I also bought a bag of fresh sticky rice. Back to the chicken, that first bite was miraculous - it was so good I almost couldn't believe it was chicken. It was salty to perfection, nicely garlicky, and the tinge of turmeric made it even better. A bite of Thai grilled chicken (gai yang ไก่ย่าง), chased by a bite of plain sticky rice is one combination the Thais have seriously mastered.

When you eat grilled chicken in Thailand, make sure you choose the fresh hot pieces that haven't been sitting out all day. If the vendor is still cooking, you can be more sure that her chicken is fresh and good to eat. Also, feel free to choose your piece of chicken and then throw it back on the grill to re-heat it if necessary. You don't have to go to Nakhon Pathom to eat gai yang, I just happened to be there for this video, but you'll find grilled chicken all over Thailand!

A Trip to Pahurat (พาหุรัด) - Bangkok's Little India

Visit my website for lots for travel and food, click here:

Pahurat (พาหุรัด), located just a five minute walk from Yaowarat Chinatown in Bangkok, Thailand, is the Little India of Thailand. Though it's a small area, Pahurat is packed with all kinds of interesting Indian merchandise, textiles, cloth, and a few reputable Indian restaurants.

Though I haven't yet been to India (I would love to go soon), I sometimes go to Pahurat (พาหุรัด) to explore and of course dine of delicious Indian food.

In this video after doing a little walking around and checking out the area, I went over to one of my favorite street side Indian restaurants in Bangkok - a small eatery known as Toney Restaurant.

Indian food in Bangkok is not normally overly cheap, in fact it's been marketed as quite an expensive cuisine and often housed in nicer sit down restaurants. However, Pahurat (พาหุรัด), there is plenty of Indian food available and many things are quite a bit cheaper than other Indian restaurants in town.

So next time you visit Bangkok, be sure to stop by Pahurat for street food and exploration!

A walking tour of the Khlong Saen Saeb central canal in Bangkok, Thailand. Bangkok was once known as the Venice of the East. Though many of the canals have since been filled-in to make way for roads, Khlong Saen Saeb canal remains in-tact and in use today.

Thai Desserts - Nam Kang Sai Shaved Ice (น้ำแข็งใส)

Go to for more travel and food!

There are all kinds of Thai desserts, but along with sticky rice and durian (or mango) one of my all time favorites is Thai shaved ice known as nam kang sai (น้ำแข็งใส).

Everyone makes their nam kang sai a little different but the basic dessert includes a choice of candied fruits and other sweet things mixed with sweet syrup and topped with a dollop of crushed ice.

I normally order the mixed shaved ice which in this case included geen noodles, water chestnuts, pieces of jackfruit some sweet potato and a few other candied items. It was then drowned in rich coconut cream and a big pile of coarsely ground ice was placed on the top.

While I'm not always a fan of all Thai desserts, this particular nam kang sai was excellent!

Thank you for watching and hope you enjoyed it.

Thai Yen Ta Fo Pink Noodle Soup (นายอ้วนเย็นตาโฟ)

Check out my Eating Thai Food Guide: and also my travel and street food website here

Within the realm of Thai cuisine are many different variations of noodles, both in fried and soup form. Along with boat noodles and tom yum noodles, one of the most local Thai popular types of soup noodles is known as Yen Ta Fo (เย็นตาโฟ). The noodles dish is uniquely pink in color which distinguishes it from most of the other noodle dishes in Thailand.

So what makes Yen Ta Fo (เย็นตาโฟ) Thai noodles so pink? Well the main ingredients that makes it this color is a tofu based fermented soy bean paste. Why is it pink though? To be honest I'm really not sure, and if you do have the answer, please share it with me in the comments below!

Anyway, Yen Ta Fo (เย็นตาโฟ) is a very popular Thai noodle soup that is usually served with sen yai, which are the wide flat rice noodles. The noodles are blanched in hot soup like other noodle soup in Thailand, along with a few sprigs of water morning glory before going in the bowl. Then the noodles are topped with all sorts of flavorful ingredients and seasonings. But the best part of a Yen Ta Fo (เย็นตาโฟ) in my opinion is all the little meatballs and porky goodies that accompany a bowl. Fish balls, pork balls, fried pork fritters, tofu pieces, and even some pieces of pork meat, and also chunks of squid, are all added to complete a bowl. The result is a very meaty bowl of noodles that tastes a little bit sweet, almost floral, from the fermented bean paste. I like to garnish my noodles with a few spoonfuls of chili flakes and a few spoons of chili vinegar. This sort of offsets the sweetness and makes the broth both sour and spicy along with the natural sweetness.

Yen Ta Fo (เย็นตาโฟ) is not my absolute favorite Thai noodle dish to eat in Bangkok, but nevertheless, it is a very popular choice and many locals love it. This particular restaurant is located near Bangkok's giant red swing near Yaowarat Chinatown. It's a long standing restaurant that serves up a pretty decent bowl.

Here's the information you'll need if you want to eat at this restaurant.

Paste Modern Thai Food - One of The Best Restaurants in Bangkok

Paste is one of the best restaurants in Bangkok that specializes in extremely high quality modern Thai food. Get all the details here -

There are many amazing restaurants in Bangkok serving everything from international cuisine to Thai food in a variety of different forms and scales. The chefs at Paste Bangkok emphasize that they don't serve fusion food - which is a combination of different cuisines merged together - but instead they focus on modern Thai food, innovation and progressive Thai cuisine. In other words, most of the ingredients are locally sourced and the recipes, though creative, are all within the traditional spectrum of Thai ingredients and flavor combination. Modern Thai food is the next step in Thai cuisine, new and modern techniques combined with traditional recipes, all within the same genre of Thai food. And as one of the best restaurants in Bangkok serving upscale Thai food, Paste uses extremely high quality ingredients and precise cooking techniques to produce a truly mouthwatering menu of flavorsome Thai dishes.

It was my privilege in this Thai food video to visit one of the best restaurants in Bangkok for a sample of modern Thai food at its finest. I first begin sampling a dish they call the ultimate-twice cooked-caramelised-pork leg with pickled bamboo shoot, pickled mustard and coriander (สุดยอดขาหมูเสริฟ์กับหน่อไม้ดอง, ผักกาดดองและผักชี). The pork leg was marinated before being flash deep fried to make it crispy on the edged. It was then arranged onto a serving plate along with pickled bamboo shoots, a caramel glaze, and sprinkled with shaved chilies and cilantro leaves. My first bite was pure heaven as the chunk of pork leg literally melted into my mouth, the fat and meat both falling apart as I chewed. The caramel contrasted the chilies and and complemented the tender pork. It was outstanding. Next up I sampled the mangosteen salad with pan seared scallop and roasted chilli jam (ยำมังคุดกับหอยเชลล์), which is a good example of a modern Thai food dish at Paste. Mangosteen is a common Thai fruit, yet it's rarely seen in a dish, so at Paste they've taken Thai ingredients and come up with creative local recipes. Along with pan seared scallops, kernels of mangosteen were combined with lemongrass and mint leaves and dressed in a chili jam which was similar to Thai prik pao roasted chili sauce. To top off the towing dish was a sprinkle of finely sliced Siam tulips. Again, this was an incredible tasting dish with a complexity of delicious flavors combined. Lastly we enjoyed a crispy skin free range duck (เป็ดมะแขว่นเสิร์ฟกับซอสส้มและโป๊ยกั๊ก) which was drizzled with fresh orange and star anise sauce. First steamed to get the juices flowing, it was then deep fried to give it a crunch. The northern Thai pepper, in the same family as the famous Sichuan pepper, was rubbed over to skin to make it extremely fragrant. All the dishes I've eaten at Paste Bangkok have been superb.

Paste is truly one of the best restaurants in Bangkok that serves upscale elegant, and true to flavor Thai food. The chefs at Paste are doing an excellent job of pushing Thai food to new levels and progressing it into a new and modern form.
