Woodman's of Essex ( Total price - $284.75 - We arrived to Woodman's of Essex, ready to devour some deep fried seafood. As the true story goes, back in 1916 Lawrence Chubby Woodman and his wife Bessie had a cart and sold fresh clams and deep fried potato chips. One day one of his fisherman friends told him to deep fry some clams in the potato chip oil. It was almost a joke - they said it was something humorous, but after trying it, they realized they might be onto something. They invented and popularized the fried clam. To this day, the original fried clam is available at Woodman's of Essex and it’s as good as it’s ever been.
At Woodman’s they also have a host of other deep fried seafood, including clam strips, scallops, shrimp, and fish, plus onion rings and fries. We decided to order a huge fisherman’s platter, including a mix of everything piled high onto Jeffrey’s lobster tray.
While all the seafood at Woodman's of Essex is delicious and remarkably deep fried and crispy, still nothing beats the deep fried clams - the original deep fried clams.
Kelly's Roast Beef ( Price - $14.02 meal combo - next up on this mini tour, just down the Massachusetts coast I stopped at Kelly's Roast Beef, legendary for their roast beef sandwich. It was every bit as good as I was hoping it to be and everything it needed to be. Don’t miss it when you visit Massachusetts!

As soon as you enter JL Smokehouse you know it’s laid back and unique. JL as he calls himself, is the pitmaster, and knows his bbq. Although he offers brisket, chicken, sausages and an assortment of meats, his southern style bbq pork ribs and pulled pork are the true highlights and something you don’t want to miss. “I have the best pulled pork in the country,” says Lewis, and when you see how the entire pork shoulder melts on the smoker, you know it’s special. Before serving it, they chop it up coarsely and then squeeze on a generous amount of their legendary bbq sauce.
I ordered the slugger combo plate, which included six different bbq meats and a few sides, plus I got an entire rack of pork ribs. JL showed me how he seasons the ribs with his own recipe dry rub, then smokes the ribs bone side down - never ever flipping them over. The pulled pork was indeed the best I’ve had, so smoky, so ultra tender and bursting with flavor when combined with the tangy bbq sauce. JL mentioned that he didn’t like to classify his bbq into any US regions, but did mention that it’s influenced and similar to Memphis style bbq.

It was an amazing experience to hang out with JL for a few hours and learn about his process of BBQ and to eat an amazing BBQ meal. When you’re in Phoenix, Arizona, if you love food and BBQ, you’re not going to want to miss it.

Now, let’s start Day 3! We spent the night in Atlantic City and then drove first thing in the morning to Barnegat in the pine forest, and then on to Camden to complete this entire food tour.
Lucille's Country Cooking ( - Total price - $19.89 - First thing we headed to Lucille's Country Cooking for breakfast, a classic New Jersey diner, but in the middle of the pine forests. They served a range of American breakfast dishes and I tried to order the same meal that Anthony Bourdain ate.
Tony & Ruth Steaks ( - Total price - $15.00 - Next we drove on to Camden, New Jersey and headed straight to Tony & Ruth Steaks. Unfortunately they were still closed due to the Covid situation and only offered takeaway from the window. But that’s alright, I still ordered a few sandwiches and then ate them in the car. The bacon and egg sandwich was especially delicious.
Donkey's Place ( - Price - $11 per cheesesteak - Finally for the grand finale of this Anthony Bourdain New Jersey food tour, we headed to Donkey's Place for a Jersey cheesesteak. This was one of the places I was most looking forward to eating in New Jersey on this entire tour. It didn’t disappoint, one of the world’s best cheesesteaks without a doubt. Quite a bit different from cheesesteaks I ate in Philly. I loved the huge quantity of onions and the poppy seed kaiser roll. It was soooo good, and the perfect way to end this entire food tourl.

BANGKOK, THAILAND: I was very excited to eat at La Maison By Chef Billy, a restaurant in Bangkok where Chef Billy serves Western food - especially French and Italian, and burgers. Additionally, he cooks a massive 5 kilo (11 pounds) supersized burger that you have to order three days in advance. And it feeds 10 - 15 people!
One of the things that stood out to me immediately is that Chef Billy cooks everything from scratch, from his special sauces and seasonings, to the giant bun which he bakes himself. So the quality of the burger and all the food stands out. To make the giant burger, Chef began with a 3 kilo meat patty which was cooked on a hot griddle. Cooking a burger this size is a test in construction and engineering, and it held up to the test!
After all the ingredients were ready, Chef Billy started putting together the burger, layers of lettuce and tomato, Chef’s special sauce, the massive burger layered with 40 pieces of cheese, bacon, then an entire pot of melted cheese sauce, plus onion rings, mayonnaise and more special Chef Billy Sauce.
Again, what stood out to me is the quality of the ingredients and the entire burger. Even though it was huge, it was delicious. The lamb burger was also delicious, juicy and fragrant.
We also tried a few other dishes at La Maison By Chef Billy including duck confit which was extraordinary, pesto pasta with grilled shrimp, and a wagyu steak. Fantastic food, highly recommended!

Weighing around six kilograms, composed of an estimated 10,000 calories, covered in fried onion rings, layers of meat, and mayonnaise, this burger isn't for the faint of heart.
Chris Steaks and Burgers of Bangkok, which specialises in large-portion meat dishes, is serving it up to customers as a challenge, promising a 10,000 Baht prize ($331.02) for those who can finish it within 9 minutes.
Officially called the 6kg Burger, the beef version is available for 2,500 Baht ($82.75).

The Biggest Burger in Ohio (at the Thurman Cafe)
On a random Saturday afternoon, we felt up for the challenge to take on the Thurmanator at the Thurman Cafe in Columbus, Ohio. The Thurman Cafe has long been known to have some of the best burgers in Columbus, but why stop with a simple burger when we could try the biggest burger on their menu, and actually in all of Ohio?
It was a delicious burger, but it certainly was quite the challenge. Josh almost completely finished it, while I (Erica) struggled to eat it all. How would you do?
