Spicy Indian BREAKFAST Food Tour - Misal Pav & Egg Bhurji | Pune, India

???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH:

In November of 2018, I visited India for the second time this year to explore more of this beautiful country’s delicious food and fascinating culture. My friend Sam and I arrived in Pune, the second-largest city in the state of Maharashtra, around sunrise, just hours after I landed in Mumbai.

Subscribe to Dharmesh:

We couldn’t wait to get out and explore the first official city on our epic, seven-city trip, so we set out on an epic breakfast food tour that I won’t soon forget just a few hours later. Come along with us as we eat our way through the incredible city of Pune!

My Film Making Kit ►

1. Butter and Toast

No joke, Vohuman Café’s toast was the best toast I’ve ever had! It was crispy, perfectly toasted, and drowning in butter.

2. Butter Bun

Next up was a butter bun, a sandwich made with a bread bun that has pieces of dehydrated cherry baked into it and tons of butter smeared between the pieces of bread. It was soft, creamy, and fatty, with a note of candied fruit and was absolutely delicious. It was even better when I dipped it in my Irani chai! So many incredible, herbal flavors combined with the fattiness from the butter!

3. Toasted Butter Cheese Sandwich

This was basically two pieces of the buttered toast with a thick slab of salty, non-melting white cheese between them. It’s like a grilled cheese without the melted cheese, and it was fantastic!

4. Egg Bhurji

The next dish we tried was egg bhurji, a spicy Indian version of traditional scrambled eggs that contains caramelized onions, green serrano pepper, red bell pepper, tomatoes, and optional spices like turmeric, garam masala, ginger, cilantro, and paprika. It was spicy and flavorful, and every bit as amazing as the first time I tried it.

5. Keema Pao

The dish we tried at the Good Luck Café was Keema Pao, a dish made of minced, curry mutton (goat), which contains onions, tomatoes, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, garlic, coriander, and more, and is served with white bread. It was truly a flavor explosion in my mouth that had my taste buds going haywire!

6. Misal Pav

The last place we visited on our epic breakfast food tour was Bedekar Tea Stall for their misal pav, a popular Maharashtrian dish that is made of missal (a spicy curry usually made of moth beans), potato, chiwda (a spicy Indian snack mix that contains fried lentils, chickpeas, fried onion, and more), farsan, sev, lemon, coriander, and more. It was moist, crunchy, and spicy, and reminded me of bhel puri! Once the gravy is added, you also get a tangy, sweet flavor as well, which makes for a truly delicious dish and an epic way to cap off our breakfast food tour in Pune!

I hope you enjoyed my incredible breakfast food tour on my first day in Pune, India! If you did please give this video a thumbs up, leave a comment and subscribe to my channel for more awesome travel and food content!

Egg Bhurji Pav - Mumbai's Breakfast To Midnight Snack

Egg Bhurji Pav - Mumbai's Breakfast To Midnight Snack

This video features the mouthwatering Egg Bhurji Pav located at the Churchgate station in Mumbai.

???? Egg Bhurji Pav is a popular street food and fast food item in India, commonly available at roadside stalls, food trucks, and local eateries. It's a delicious and satisfying dish that offers a perfect combination of spicy and savory flavors with the softness of the pav rolls. It can be enjoyed as a quick breakfast, brunch, or a snack, and it's often served with chutneys or ketchup on the side to add extra flavor.

Egg Bhurji:

-Egg bhurji is a flavorful and spicy Indian dish made from scrambled eggs. It is cooked with a variety of aromatic spices, vegetables, and sometimes herbs to create a delicious and savory mixture. The eggs are typically beaten and then cooked in a pan with ingredients like finely chopped onions, tomatoes, green chilies, ginger, garlic, and a blend of spices such as turmeric, red chili powder, cumin, and coriander.

-The mixture is continuously stirred or scrambled in the pan until the eggs are well-cooked and have absorbed the flavors of the other ingredients. Some variations may include the addition of fresh coriander leaves, garam masala, or other regional spices.

Pav:

-Pav refers to the bread rolls used in this dish, which are similar to soft dinner rolls or buns. They are typically soft, white, and slightly sweet in taste. These rolls are often toasted or buttered on a griddle to enhance their flavor and texture.

-The pav is a key element in the dish, as it is used to scoop up and savor the spicy egg bhurji. It can be served on the side or used to make a sandwich by placing the egg bhurji inside the pav.

Top 10 Indian Street Foods in Pune, India | The BEST INDIAN Street Food in Pune

???? WATCH: Indian Veg Food:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH:

My first travel adventure of 2018 was an epic, 3-week trip through India back in January. During those 3 weeks, I fell in love with everything about this country, so I decided bookend my year with another Indian excursion in November!

I knew I’d have to do a lot of walking to get around Pune, the first city on my trip, which I knew would be a problem for my low arches. So I partnered up with Dr. Scholl’s see if they could help me out. They sent me some insoles, and I figured the best way to test them is to wear them as I hunt down the best food the city has to offer. Here are my top 10 Indian street food dishes in Pune!

-Egg Bhurji (Vohuman Café)

Egg bhurji is a spicy, Indian, scrambled egg dish that contains caramelized onions, green serrano pepper, red bell pepper, tomatoes, turmeric, and more. It was perfectly balanced and bursting with signature Indian flavors I will never forget.

-Keema Pao (Good Luck Café)

Keema Pao is a popular dish made of minced, curried goat; onions, tomatoes, green chilis, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, and more. Each bite was an explosion of flavor in my mouth that made my taste buds go haywire and crave even more!

-Masal Puri (JM Road)

Masal Puri is a snack that is made up of hollow, unleavened, deep-fried bread balls called puris, a hot masala gravy containing puffed rice, vegetables, and spices. The vegetables added a freshness to a crunchy, flavorful dish that wasn’t too hot.

-Sponge Dosa (JM Road)

The sponge dosa is an Indian pancake with an airy, spongy texture. It was served with a tropical mint-coconut chutney and a very spicy tomato-garlic chutney. The light texture and incredible chutneys made this my favorite dosa I’ve ever eaten!

-Tawa Pulao (JM Road)

Tawa Pulao is a spice-filled rice dish containing green peas, onions, tomatoes, and bhaji masala powder. This is one of the most mouthwatering rice dishes I’ve ever eaten, almost like an Indian take on Chinese fried rice.

-Misal Pav (Bedekar Tea Stall)

Misal Pav is made up of a spicy, moth bean-based curry called misal, potato, fried lentils, chickpeas, fried onion, lemon, coriander, and more. It’s moist, crunchy, and spicy, and also becomes sweet and tangy with the gravy, which perfectly balances the spiciness and makes this a mouthwatering, one-of-a-kind dish.

-Masala Chai (roadside)

Masala Chai is a creamy black tea that contains aromatic Indian herbs and spices along with milk, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. It’s creamy, spicy, and peppery, and is served scalding hot. Just don’t burn your mouth on it!

-Vada Pav (roadside)

Vada Pav is usually a masala-soaked bun that contains a fried potato fritter, but this one contained a delicious mint chutney instead of masala and was served with lots of raw onions. The mint chutney was an interesting and flavorful twist, and the potato fritter and bun were delicious! One of my favorite veg dishes in India!

-Tandoori Chai (roadside)

Tandoori Chai is a milky, unique Indian tea. After a clay pot or kulhad is heated in an oven called a tandoor and placed in a bowl, half-cooked chai is poured inside it, where it boils and bubbles over the sides and fills the entire bowl, which infuses the tea with tandoori flavor. The chai is creamy, earthy, and smoky, and is absolutely divine!

-Bahubali Thali (House of Paratha)

Bahubali Thali at House of Paratha is the biggest Thali in Pune, This massive dish contains a 20 to 22 inch-wide paratha that is stuffed with vegetables, nuts, and cheese. Alongside the paratha were various vegetables, breads, desserts, drinks, and sides. It’s spicy, earthy, nutty, and tropical, and the textures range from crispy to crunchy to creamy.

After two days of exploring Pune on foot, I can honestly say that my new Dr. Scholl’s insoles were a godsend for my feet. They felt way better than usual when I do lots of walking, and I highly recommend Dr. Scholl’s insoles to anyone who has to spend a lot of time on their feet. I could not have made it through these 48 hours without them!

I hope you enjoyed checking out my top ten Indian street foods in! If you did please give this video a thumbs up, leave me a comment below and subscribe to my channel!

1) Butter Toast

I doubt you've ever had as much butter on your toast as what is served up at Vohman Cafe. Drowning in butter and toasted to perfection you'll pop more than one slice guaranteed.

2) Irani Chai

A unique chai (tea) made by adding special ingredients mawa and/or khoya to black tea. Irani Chai is typically sweet and creamy with spices like cardamon and cinnamon added.

3) Butter Bun / Bun Maska

Imagine a bun featuring dried fruit sliced in half with the thickest layer of butter in between. Best had by dipping again and again into Irani Chai.

4) Butter Cheese Sandwich Toast

Grab two pieces of thickly buttered toast and then stick a layer of cheese in between that is just as thick. That is what you get with this I don't want to know how many calories are in this dish.

5) Egg Bhurji

Spicy Indian scrambled eggs featuring green peppers, red peppers, onions, tomatoes and spices. It was packed with spice and flavor.

INDIAN BREAKFAST TOUR STOP #2

6) Keema Pao

The signature dish we tried at this cafe was Keema Pao - a dish consisting of minced mutton curry featuring cloves, onions, tomatoes, cardamon and ginger. You scoop it up by the spoonful or eat it like a local with a piece of bread.

7) Chocolate Drink / Bourn Vitta

Like a Milo or Nestle Chocolate which is very sweet and chocolatey.

INDIAN BREAKFAST TOUR STOP #3

8) Misal Pav

Last but not least we tried the popular Maharashtrian dish Misal Pav. Missal referring to a spicy moth bean based curry featuring chiwda, potato, sev, lemon and corriander. It is the spiciest dish we had on this food tour and also quite crunchy
