Art in the Cloud / PLATFORM Speaker Series

Presented by C MAGAZINE

Part of Art Toronto's PLATFORM Speaker Series
October 26, 2018.

Anna Khachiyan presents a talk which functions as a companion piece to her essay Art Won’t Save Us (Open Space, 2018), in which she critiqued the self-congratulatory and ineffectual attempts at “resistance” coming out of the art world and argued that we have more to fear from the uncontested cultural and economic hegemony of tech firms than from any sort of political administration, however unpopular and reactionary it may be. Khachiyan will pick up where she left off, examining the stakes of art’s infatuation with digital platforms and information technologies and asking what part, if any, does art have in posing a political challenge to platform capitalism? Khachiyan is a New York-based writer and co-host of Red Scare, a cultural commentary podcast.

It too might be a brief global movement – but will it alter perceptions? We might ask where the US is going. What are its new dreams that will inspire the world? What critical changes are needed to re-direct US reality to offer greater guidance to the globe?

Jill Stein for President

Americans deserve real solutions for the economic, social and environmental crises we face. But the broken political system is only making things worse.

It's time to build a people's movement to end unemployment and poverty; avert climate catastrophe; build a sustainable, just economy; and recognize the dignity and human rights of every person. The power to create this new world is not in our hopes; it’s not in our dreams — it's in our hands.
