Welcome to our 4th day in Maui! Today we went to Molokini crater for Huy and Rafa to scuba dive. Audrey, Flannery and Jorge were snorkeling on the surface. After that, we went to Maui Brewing Co. to have one of the most amazing dinner in Maui.

Diving the Carthaginian Shipwreck || Maui Scuba Adventures || Molokini Crater Back Wall
The Carthaginian Wreck is located at over 90 feet, just off of Maui's west coast. Deep beneath the surface, it is now only visible via submarine or scuba.
While, afloat, this ship served as a realistic replica and floating museum for many years in Lahaina Harbor - educating visitors about the port town's dark past and it's role in whaling history.
Today we join Dive Maui for a 2-tank dive - first stop: Molokini Crater back wall (always a favorite and a top 50 best dive site in the world!), followed by the beautiful 100 ft schooner.

One of the best experiences from our Hawaii trip was Snuba diving at Molokini Crater. This crater is located in Maui Hawaii just off the coast. Molokini Crater is known for its scuba diving and snorkeling. We decided to do a cross between the two and snuba dive at the crater! We are so excited to share how much fun we had on this day! Diving Molokini Crater, Maui, Hawaii - Close Encounter With Moray Eels!

The first eel wanted to take a chunk out of me!

Molokini is a crescent-shaped islet located in the Alalakeiki Channel between the islands of Maui and Kaho'olawe. It is both a marine sanctuary and a seabird sanctuary. Visibility at Molokini regularly exceeds 150 feet (45 meters) and the inside of the crater is sheltered from wind and waves making it a prime diving destination. It is one of my favorite spots around Maui for sure!

Molokini Crater, Maui Hawaii
Molokini Crater is a popular snorkeling and scuba diving spot. For scuba divers, two weeks advance reservations are usually needed, and often (but not always) require Advanced Open Water Certification. The backside of the crater can drop to 300ft (92m), so many companies require some sort of vetting process or advance certification. For my reef dive the max depth was 70ft (21m), with an average of 45ft (14m). For the backside my max depth was 74ft (23m) and and average of 47ft (14m).
This is a must do on Maui for snorkelers and divers, we saw three octopus, two sharks, one eel, and plenty of curious fish.

We put off a trip to Molokini Crater for a year but when Pacific Whale Foundation opened for residents, we couldn’t resist going to Molokini Crater and Turtle Arches on a Pacific Whale Foundation tour.
We put off a trip to Molokini for snorkeling because we thought it wasn’t worth it. We love snorkeling on Maui and one can do great snorkeling for free from the shore. Why get a snorkeling boat to see turtles and fish?
After going, we realized a trip to Molokini Crater is more about the day out on the water. Be it a big boat tour, a sailboat, or a raft, it is a fun day on the ocean if that is what you are looking for in a #Maui or any island on #Hawaii vacation.

Recommendation on Snorkel Gear:
Before you rush out to buy snorkel gear, we recommend renting when on the islands. Save on luggage space by renting. There are a lot of great, local renting shops on all the islands. Prices range from $1.50 a day to $6 day. One can get discounted rates by renting for the week. With a local shop, you can make sure you get quality snorkel gear and they can fit the mask properly. Many resorts also provide snorkel gear!
