Rio Celeste Waterfall is world famous for its bright blue water. The mixture of the volcanic minerals from multiple river sources combine to form the unique and visually stunning blue color. Even though this hike gets very crowded, you can usually get there early and avoid the masses. We explored the trail on a rainy, overcast day so the color of the river was not at its brightest.

The Rio Celeste waterfall is one of the bluest waterfalls we have ever seen. The Rio Celeste Waterfall is located in the Tenorio Volcano National Park which is in the northern part of Costa Rica. We have seen many blue lakes and waterfalls during our time in Alaska but none have been this vibrant. It was even amazing when we walked up the river just a little ways and found a completely brown river. Visiting Rio Celeste is truly a great way to spend some time exploring Costa Rica.

The Magic of Rio Celeste: Costa Rica's Whimsical Waterfall ????????
Our time in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, continues! Deep in the green rainforests of Tenorio Volcano National Park, we found the bluest turquoise waters in all of Costa Rica. Rio Celeste is a river that you’d imagine to be in a fairytale. It’s radiantly blue and completely surrounded by whimsical plants and happy butterflies. All we could smell was fresh, pure air, and all we could hear was flowing water and chirping birds. After experiencing pure magic of Rio Celeste, we spent our final day in La Fortuna exploring the Mistico Arenal hanging bridges. La Fortuna was simply wonderful, and we can’t wait to show you all Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast! ????????

Exploring Costa Rica - RIO CELESTE | Discover the Secret of the Bluest Waterfall in Costa Rica!!
Rio Celeste is the most popular waterfall in Costa Rica. Located in the North Part of the Country in Parque National Volcan Tenorio.
We are super excited to take you in this beautiful hike that lead to the Waterfall. We did lots of research and read numerous amazing review about Rio Celeste and we are 100% confident you'll love it too.
We have seen many waterfall and this is definitely one of the most beautiful (unfortunately it's not possible to swim in it) with one of the most scenic staircase.
The rest of the hike, in the National Park, is also really exciting with few other pools, hot springs and suspended bridges.
One tip we ca share is to drive 1km down the road, outside the National Park, where it's possible to swim and chill in the water after the hike.

Siamo super entusiasti di accompagnarti in questa bellissima escursione che porta alla Cascata. Abbiamo fatto molte ricerche e letto numerose fantastiche recensioni su Rio Celeste e siamo sicuri al 100% che piacerà anche a te.
Abbiamo visto molte cascate e questa è sicuramente una delle più belle (purtroppo non è possibile fare il bagno) con una delle scale più scenografiche.
Anche il resto dell'escursione, nel Parco Nazionale, è davvero emozionante con altre piscine, sorgenti termali e ponti sospesi.
Un consiglio che possiamo condividere è quello di guidare per 1 km lungo la strada, fuori dal Parco Nazionale, dove è possibile nuotare e rilassarsi nell'acqua dopo l'escursione.

Rio Celeste is the most impressive waterfall in Costa Rica.
Celeste is the Spanish word for sky blue, so you can already imagine the coloring of the Rio Celeste in Tenorio National Park. Thanks to the lagoon, waterfall and encounter with a “grey river”, there are also many exciting photo opportunities, so I would like to take you on a small trip to Rio Celeste in Tenorio National Park in Cost Rica. The highlight of Tenorio National Park, whose volcano you cannot climb, is the Rio Celeste, an almost miraculously blue river that flows through part of the park. The hiking trail that leads to the various highlights of the river is also located here. The first is the waterfall, the Catarata Celeste, which falls from an estimated depth of around 25 meters and forms a turquoise-blue waterfall pool with a loud roar.
The waterfall can be reached via around 200 steps and is the first stop along the 6 km long (3 km one-way) hike through Tenorio National Park. Unfortunately, you cannot swim in the natural pool. Costa Rica travel now.

Have you ever seen a blue waterfall? We couldn't believe our eyes when we visited Rio Celeste Waterfall and we quickly found out why this is a must-see attraction in Costa Rica! This video will guide you along the amazing tour we experienced where you can learn all about the magical reason behind this sky blue color while we hiked through the dense jungle surrounding la Catarata Río Celeste. We even got to swim in the turquoise river. You'll see why it might be considered the most famous waterfall in Costa Rica. The tour was very affordable, as mentioned in the video, and when you support tourism in Costa Rica, you are supporting the preservation of the biological biodiversity within this beautiful country. This was by far one of the most beautiful waterfalls we've ever seen!

One of Costa Rica's best kept secrets, Tenorio Volcano National Park sits near the border of Nicaragua in the Northern part of Costa Rica and is best known for the beautiful Catarata Rio Celeste and it’s azure blue waters.
The Catarata Rio Celeste trail is approximately 3.7 miles (6 kilometers) and is a relatively easy hike for most people.
Elevation gain for the Rio Celeste trail is 715 feet (218 meters). Do keep in mind that parts of the trail are steep and rocky and can get wet and muddy at times.

STUNNING RIO CELESTE IN COSTA RICA
Rio Celeste in Costa Rica is famous for its breathtaking blue water. We were so excited to see the amazing water for ourselves.
After finally making it to Costa Rica, we picked up our rental car and drove north to Rio Celeste. The drive took us around 3 1/2 hours. Once we arrived, we checked into our Airbnb. The accommodation was so unique because it was in the shape of an egg. It was also in a prime location right on the Rio Celeste and only a short drive to the Tenorio Volcano National Park. We were so excited to walk down to the river to see the blue water.
The next morning, we had a delicious breakfast at the Airbnb. After packing up, we headed to Tenorio Volcano National Park. We chose to rent mud boots right outside of the park entrance because it was rainy and we didn't want our sandals to get muddy.
These are the items of interest when visiting Rio Celeste:
-Rio Celeste Waterfall
-Laguna Azul (blue water lagoon)
-Los Borbollones (gases from the volcano bubble up through the water in this area)
-El Teñidero (area where two rivers meet)
The entire hike is 3.7 miles round trip. It took us around 4 hours to complete it. The weather was constantly changing throughout our hike. We brought rain jackets and had to use them a few times.
After the hike, we went across the street to a soda (local restaurant) to have lunch. Then we made the drive to La Fortuna.
