The travel guide to the MASCARENE ISLANDS!
Our destination is the island of Rodrigues, in the Mascarene archipelago, a volcanic folly that is only 109 square kilometres surrounded by an uncontaminated coral reef. We visit the island and discover its’ beauty on land, underground and also underwater. In the Francois Leguat protected reserve we are privileged to see hundreds of Tortoises, a varying ages and sizes, as they mate undisturbed by our presence and our cameras.
A local guide takes us to discover a system of caves that develops 18 metres below sea level. But it is the population of Rodrigues that surprises us the most: a people who have not adopted different ways or customs, but that live their lives proudly with the knowledge that they are fortunate to have been born in such an island paradise both on land and sea.

With that, it makes it the most beautiful, untouched paradise that we are so grateful we had the chance to visit. Rodrigues Island is known for its Kite Surfing Festival that happens around end of July every year, it's something to witness that's for sure. After a scary sail across the Indian ocean Jupiter 2 a performance cruising catamaran recovers in the remote island of Rodrigues. Jamie and Princess go on an island tour with a friendly local before preparing Jupiter for the quick sail to Mauritius.

Jupiter² was built in the Philippines by an Australian designer for Jamie. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time.
Hopefully some inspiration to Quit Job and Go Sailing.

Located in the Southern Hemisphere, approximately 3 075 km from South Africa, the island covers an area of 2 040 km2. The distance from north to south is about 80km, while from west to east is approximately 60 kms.
Its closest neighbours are Reunion to the south-west and Rodrigues to the north-east. Mauritius also contains the islands of Cargados Carajos, Rodrigues and the Agalega Islands.
With a population of about 1.263 million people, the islanders warmly welcome tourists from across the globe. Rodrigues 2022: Small trevally and grouper casts
I was in beautiful and serene Rodrigues Island end of February for work. Since meetings and field trips started only at around 9h, I was left with the 5 am to roughly 7h30 window to do some casting. And I sure did.
I could not venture far from the Tekoma Boutik Hotel, where I was staying, due to sanitary measures, so I had to adapt. I went for the easy wins strategy and scored more than decently.
Next week, I’ll post a video dedicated to ONE fish only. I caught loads and loads of them, setting a new personal record by a long stretch.
J’étais à Rodrigues, la belle et sereine île voisine de Maurice fin février, en déplacement professionnel. Puisque les réunions et visites ne commençaient qu’à 9h, je me suis retrouvé avec une fenêtre de lancer entre 5h et 7h30 du matin pour taquiner le poisson.
En raison des strictes restrictions sanitaires, je ne pouvais m’aventurer plus loin que le Tekoma Boutik Hotel, où je séjournais. J’ai donc du m’adapter et mettre en place une stratégie qui porterait ses fruits. Cela a marché, et de quelle manière !
La semaine prochaine, je posterai une vidéo dédiée à une espèce précise. J’ai pris des dizaines de spécimens de ce poisson. Battant de très très loin mon record.
