We couldn't resist a food tour at Riga Central Market, the largest food market in all of Europe! The market is built in 5 zeppelin hangars, and is included with Riga Old Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

After arriving in the food court hangar (Centrālais Gastro Tirgus), we were overwhelmed with the sheer amount of food to choose from. We ended up trying some really delicious foods and having an awesome day at Riga Central Market. This is by far one of the top things to do in Riga!

What Do They Eat in Latvia?? Visiting Largest Market Hall in Riga ????????

The LARGEST market hall in Europe is in Riga, Latvia! The Riga Central Market Hall is the largest market hall in the continent of Europe.

It is located inside what used to be the largest collection of zeppelin hangars during World War I. It is now full of all sorts of shopping and food vendors, including traditonal Latvian food!

Come and join me in exploring the beautiful capital city of Latvia, Riga. I had absolutely no expectations for Riga, just a spontaneous £4.99 outbound flight.

I was blown away by the architecture, the beauty and eccentricity of some of the buildings, such as House of the Blackheads and Riga Doms Cathedral. Combined with this, narrow streets, an abundance of colour and array of history, buildings such as The Three Brothers added a wealth of intrigue and history to the city.

I visited other interesting sites such as the Freedom Monument and Riga Central Market, considered as possibly the biggest market in Europe.

The Riga Central Market is definitely worth a visit. The Riga Central Market is advertised as Europes largest market and states it has an impressive 72,000 square meters and more than 3,000 trade stands. One of the most notable structures in Riga as its basically five pavilions that are reusing old German World War II Zeppelin hangars. Built during the 1924 to 1930s time frame. Each of the hangars seems to host a different food categoryFor example, one was mostly seafood while the next one was mostly meat and the next one was deserts.

The Central Food Market of Riga, Latvia

The gigantic Central Markets were used as Zeppelin hangers during World War I. Each building sells something different. Meats, cheeses, honey, fruits, vegetables and sauerkraut goods. One woman even had pates of Horse Meat, Moose and Moose Salami!

Produce is also sold outside the buildings. Some sellers with only one small item to sell and others had stalls loaded with anything and everything.

We went to the Riga Central Market's brand new food section/ cafeteria called Centrālais Gastro Tirgus/ Central Gastro Market, which has over twenty food stands/restaurants offering American to local to Asian cuisine.
