Queenstown is our favourite place in New Zealand, and after seeing this vlog and the other travel episodes to come (3 more still in this mini-series) you'll see why! Since returning to NZ we've been hunting out a lot more of the best hiking trails and walks around the country, but despite that we STILL hadn't ticked off the best walks in Queenstown. This trip we wanted to change that, so we made a list of some of the best walks and hikes and picked one of each... one tougher, one cruisier.

The Queenstown hill walk is a bit of a beast, there's mixed reviews online about the state of the walking track and elevation but it's unanimously known as one of the best hikes in the area. It's a good few hours of what feels like straight up elevation as you hike up through the trees, before reaching what we pretty quickly called the best views in Queenstown. It's starting point is a few mins up the back of town by car, or a walk up through the neighbourhoods to get there - but you're probably best saving your legs for the climb to come! Classify this one as a legit hike.

For a more chill walk, it's only a 20-minute flat stroll to reach the jetty at Bobs Cove, but you get access to the water within about 10 mins. You do need to drive 15ish mins out from Queenstown to reach Bobs Cove, then you have a collection of different walks and loops you can do. Not really hikes as such given how chill they are, at least thats how we think about it.

Gotta love how there is so much beauty to see in Queenstown, and all of those for free!

Queenstown, New Zealand is known as the adventure capital of the world, and for good reason! Nestled in the heart of the Southern Alps on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown offers visitors breathtaking scenery and a wide range of thrilling activities. In this video, we'll be sharing some of the best things to do in Queenstown, New Zealand.

First on our list is bungee jumping. Queenstown is the birthplace of commercial bungee jumping, and you can experience this adrenaline-pumping activity at the Kawarau Bridge, which is the world's first commercial bungee site. You can also try the Nevis Bungy, which is the highest bungee jump in New Zealand, or the Ledge Bungy, which allows you to jump from a platform suspended 400 meters above Queenstown.

If you're a fan of winter sports, Queenstown is a must-visit destination. The city has four major ski fields, including Coronet Peak, which is only a 20-minute drive from the city center. You can also try your hand at snowboarding, snowshoeing, or even ice climbing.

For a more laid-back activity, take a scenic cruise on Lake Wakatipu. You can relax on board and take in the stunning scenery, or get off at one of the stops along the way and explore the local area. You can also take a ride on the iconic TSS Earnslaw steamship, which has been cruising on the lake for over 100 years.

For a bird's eye view of Queenstown, take a gondola ride up to the Skyline Queenstown complex. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the surrounding mountains. You can also take a thrilling ride on the Skyline Luge, which is a gravity-driven karting experience.

If you're a Lord of the Rings fan, don't miss the chance to visit some of the film's iconic locations. You can take a tour of the filming locations, including the Misty Mountains and the Pillars of the Kings, or visit the Weta Workshop, which created many of the film's props and costumes.

Last but not least, foodies will love the vibrant dining scene in Queenstown. The city has a wide range of restaurants and cafes, serving everything from traditional New Zealand cuisine to international dishes. Be sure to try some of the local specialties, such as venison, lamb, and seafood.

In conclusion, Queenstown is a city that offers a unique blend of natural beauty, adventure, and culture.

BEST HIKE IN THE WORLD? Routeburn Great Walk, New Zealand ????????

We started at Routeburn Shelter, made our way up to Conical Hill, and went back to Routeburn Falls Hut to spend the night there. The next day, we walked back from the Hut to the Routeburn Shelter. Unfortunately, we didn't book the entire track, one reason is that the Routeburn track is not a loop so you would need to have a transfer on the other side so we feel we did it the best way to avoid paying high fees to get us back to the car park.

Queenstown Hill Walking Track: The complete walk-through experience

On the second day of our trip to the South Island of New Zealand, we woke up early to trek the Queenstown Hill Walking Track.
The walk to the trailhead from Queenstown Center passed through some residential streets.
After an ascent of approximately twenty minutes, we arrived at the Queenstown Hill landmark, the Basket of Dreams sculpture.
A short distance of fifteen-minute hike from the Basket of Dreams led us to the summit of Queenstown Hill, Te Tapunuii (a mountain of intense sacredness).
This section of the loop track immerses us in a distinct experience. The towering trees and dense foliage create a verdant canopy that shadows the path. Here, sunlight struggles to penetrate, transforming the ambiance into a sober, almost ethereal atmosphere.
I hope you will enjoy watching this video.

You can read about our hike at Queenstown Hill on our travel blog:

Erratum: The Basket of Dreams was created in 2013, not 2023, as mentioned in the video at minute 4.29.

Queenstown Hill Hike

Queenstown Hill Hike is probably the shortest and closest hike you can do, while staying in central Queenstown. Roughly 2 hours return at a decent pace AND make sure you take a lot of liquids with you :D (it is quite steep to compensate for the shorter distance)

Hiking Queenstown Hill & Sugar Loaf

New Zealand September 2019.
We started sort of late after a few set backs. Our first attempt from Arthur’s Point via the Shotover River ???? was cut shot due to no trespassing signs ✋ on private property, so we reassessed and drive ???? to a different area of the same river, which was beautiful but when we ran into the same issue, we spoke to the property owner who said the area was closed due to hunting ???? and pest control in the area.
We had to start fresh and decided to hike ???? the traditional route up Queenstown Hill ⛰.
After reaching the summit we headed towards the majestic Sugar Loaf Lookout ???????? before making our way to a high viewpoint in time for sunset ????.
Afterwards we met up with Miranda for $2 taco ???? night at Bungalow with some beers ???? and Mario Kart on the big screen!
