Day in the life of a Digital Nomad

In this video I share with you a day in my life as a digital nomad…

From sunrise to sunset, I love to be active and present.
Welcome to my life ☺
I adore watching the sun rise so I start my day bright and early!
Being awake before the world rises is something special…

From 5am to 7am I am focused on my self.
I normally start with some prayers of gratitude, intentional breathing, followed by meditation to connect within.
I then move into reading my latest chosen novel while sippin’ on lemon water.

After this, I connect to my physical body through yin yoga for movement and breathe.
It helps to calm my mind and center myself to become intentional with my thoughts, emotions, and the day ahead.
(I spent so many years not loving myself; I now cherish every moment that I have. My morning routine is my life force that connects me to my self.)

I then move onto my weakness, coffee.
During this fabulous process of making coffee, I love to irritate and annoy my siblings, because I am older and wiser.

Thereafter, I get into “adult work mode” where I video edit for two very beautiful humans, Wofty and Leah.

Wofty’s Youtube Channel:
DM with Karl

Leah’s Youtube Channel:
Life Full of Zest

I break fast for breakfast at around 11am.
Intermittent fasting is an important lifestyle choice for me, beyond “weight loss”. It allows the cells enough time to truly regenerate themselves.
Do some research ☺ It's fascinating!

I don’t always stick to this, because life gets crazy, and sometimes you are just hungry, or you're at a 5am market where they are selling delicious fruit and veg creations, or you're camping on a mountain where time doesn’t exist!
Be flexible yo!

Sitting behind a laptop all morning is very intense and energy sapping, so by midday I love to get moving again.
Yoga, strength training, walking, running, sometimes just sitting and breathing into my body, whatever I feel like at the time.

For the rest of the day, I am gallivanting, or doing some creative work for my own company, or additional clients.

P.S, if you don’t know the story of Lungile’s Sand Castle house, check.it.out!

Ep 246 - Coping with Quarantine - Why Digital Nomads are Better Prepared

This episode is with Kristin Wilson on the topic of why some digital nomads are coping better during this quarantine than normal people. We discuss the following topics:

Daily life hasn’t changed much for us in many ways.

Preface - Some people are struggling financially and with their health. We feel bad for those people. However, this discussion is about the majority of people. The ones scrolling their phones and watching Tiger King on Netflix.

Definition of Digital Nomad: Someone who earns a living online and location independently and travels with no permanent home but moves about from place to place, usually seasonally.

Familiar with uncertainty and discomfort. (also just not having access to certain things)

Minimalist lifestyle and low cost-of-living

(not needing much) Okay with a 13” TV. No access to some of our favorite things.

Multiple revenue streams

Personal identity not tied to a job or company

Comfortable using remote collaboration tools

Pre-existing focus on mindset and mental health

Less familial pressures at home

Part of a global community

Reality Check for many so called digital nomads.

Steve: Love this article! So many of my non-digital nomad friends are really struggling stress-wise and I couldn’t pinpoint why I’m dealing well with this insanity. And I’ve been feeling guilty that I’m handling it well. Kristin’s well-thought out article perfectly explained the “why”. Thanks!

Cory: Great article. Spot on with what was going on in my mind, almost to the point of feeling a bit selfish that I'm not really feeling much difference at all.

Kevin: Yep I agree too, we have a 6 and 4 year old and are in Tulum now after escaping the lockdown in San Diego. Its a shame that we can’t go to a restaurant or visit the gym or park but our life other than these services are the same. We still homeschool on the road as normal and work as normal.

Maya Says: Most of the nomads I know work in 3-4 locations a day... the coworking space for a couple of hours, work in your lunch spot, then a friend's house... Spreading work as they live their day, I was like that too before this whole thing started...

It also depends where you are during these times..

In some countries people can still take a stroll on the beach, in others- you can't leave the house unless it's for getting groceries.

Also a lot of my friends, who were used to nomading in hostels, had to spend 2-3 times more money on flats, as hostels shut down in many countries, so from a spending amount + being around people 24/7, they are now spending more money and alone 24/7.

I am happy for your fellow nomads for surviving this period better than mine LOL

Camille Said: This is why I also brought up the financial side of it. If you have to go back to your very expensive home country but it's not your home anymore and you don't have a place to live there, you're in bad shape.

Article:

Nathan Says:

Mental health. Partial or total loss of income. Being in the risk group for COVID. Insurance companies withdrawing covid coverage. Worry that if they do go to the hospital, some countries may prioritize nationals over foreigners. Nomads getting kicked out of Airbnbs but also unable to legally move to another apartment because of quarantine. Concerns about family back home. Loneliness. Anxiety. Depression. Again, all kinds of mental health issues.

Ep 244 - Digital Nomads Quarantined Around the World: COVID-19 Special

This week Johnny speaks to seven different digital nomads from around the world, some of which have moved back home to wait out the COVID-19 crisis, and others who continue to live aboard. We hear each of their stories, what the current curfew or quarantine situation is like where they are, and find out if they are still able to work online, work remotely and earn money while locked up. While the unemployment rate around the world is rapidly growing, digital nomads, remote workers, and location independent entrepreneurs may be immune to the economic downturns. Listen to this episode and share it with your friends.

Covid-19...Is Nomad Life Over Because of Coronavirus?

What does coronavirus mean for nomads and people who spend their lives traveling?
Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to the channel!

When it comes to talking about covid-19 and travel, there is much to talk about, but I'm not a health expert, so this is my opinion and feelings about coronavirus and how it is impacting my life as a full-time traveler and nomad.

Since I'm currently in Colombia, I have to think about where I'm going to be during these times of nationwide lockdowns. I would love to travel back to the USA to be with my family during the the coronavirus pandemic, but I can't rely on the American system to take care of my health for a variety of reasons.

I have tickets to travel to Ecuador in May, but the covid-19 pandemic has closed their borders to foreign nationals. So, my tentative plan is to hunker down while I'm here in Colombia. We are staying in the countryside, which I think helps us stay away from people potentially infected by coronavirus.

I will wait to see if Ecuador will reopen their borders in the next 8 weeks. If they do, we will continue with our travels. If they don't, I may apply for residency in Colombia to ride out the coronavirus fears. If I can't residency or a visa to stay longer, I will look for countries that are not hard hit by covid-19 and which allow for 3-6 month stays for American citizens.

Stay safe everyone, if you don't need to be traveling, don't. Hunker down for now. This may last a few months, it could last more than a year. Postponing your travels due to coronavirus is not the end of the world for nomads. Take your health seriously and do what I'm doing: approach covid-19 with caution, but do not panic and spend your time worrying. That isn't good for your health, either.

DIGITAL NOMAD???? BALI ???????? HEEFT LOTTE COVID-19 OPGELOPEN OP BALI? NOMADVLOG#10

QUARANTINE Life in SIARGAO PHILIPPINES (Our first time at the beach)

We've been in Siargao island Philippines for 25 days now and we've been in quarantine for 23 days. Martin and I went to the barangay to get my quarantine pass so that I can buy food supplies, withdraw money and go to the pharmacy before the curfew. It took us about 2 hours and a half to get the travel pass so we decided to go to the beach for the first time after 25 days. It was quick but very nice. The sound of the ocean is very peaceful and I also needed to breathe some fresh air given that I have been on self-isolation for quite a while now. Hope you guys are enjoying the quarantine vlogs so far and please comment below which country you're currently at and how's the situation there now :) Thank you and please stay safe everyone!
