New Caledonia: A colourful archipelago | WIDE

In New Caledonia, nature expresses itself in all its magnificence.

The archipelago orbits around a central axis: Grande Terre. The main island is bordered by the largest lagoon in the world.

But Grande Terre is not only fascinating by the intensity of its blue waters. It also possesses a very rich plant life. Nearly 3400 plant species have been found in New Caledonia and it is estimated that several hundred remain to be discovered.

Anse Vata, New Caledonia - HD Walking Tour

A few years ago I spent Christmas in New Caledonia, and I based myself in Anse Vata, a seaside part of the city of Noumea.
New Caledonia is a French territory in the Pacific Ocean, just a couple of hours flying from Brisbane, Australia. It is very tropical, the primary spoken language is French along with Kanak, and there is plenty of things for a tourist to see and do.
As this was in 2018, I shot this walk very differently to how i do now, and I used HD rather than 4K. It's a bit of a step back in time, one from the vault.
I hope this HD walking tour is interesting.

Ile Des Pins (Isle of Pines) New Caledonia

L'Île-des-Pins is a commune in the South Province of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. L'Île-des-Pins is made up of the Isle of Pines, the smaller Kôtomo Island, and several islets around these two, as well as the distant island of Walpole. The Isle of Pines and adjacent islands are located to the south of New Caledonia's mainland. The settlement of Vao, on the Isle of Pines, is the administrative centre of the commune of L'Île-des-Pins.
L'Île-des-Pins is one of the main tourist attractions in New Caledonia. The Isle of Pines itself is nicknamed l'île la plus proche du paradis (the closest island to Paradise). It is renowned for the intense blue colors of its waters and for the ancient pine tree groves spread throughout the Isle of Pines and the neighboring islands.
After the Paris Commune (1871), about 2,800 Parisian insurgents were deported to L'Île-des-Pins, a part of whose territory was turned into a penal settlement where the convicts lived for several years. The old prison is captured in this video.

Isle of Pines (Ile des Pins), New Caledonia

This gem of southern New Caledonia quite rightly lays claim to the title of ‘the closest island to paradise’. Bordered by crystalline waters, the Isle of Pines (l'Île des Pins) is bathed in the warm Pacific sun and dotted with outrigger canoes that are the pride of its inhabitants, the Kuniés. Close your eyes and breathe deeply. No, you’re not dreaming – you really are on the Isle of Pines, New Caledonia!

We always have fun filming new things for you guys and showing you places to go.

New Caledonia Travel Vlog

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to be asked to be among a group of women to go to New Caledonia and work with Tourism and help raise awareness for the country/destination, as well as highlighting and learning about eco/ocean conservation.
It was 5 days, of adventure, fun, connection, femininity, ocean loving and exploring, nature walks, photography, story telling, story sharing, vulnerability, and humanity at it's finest.
There is something so indescribably raw and beautiful about being surrounded by pure feminine energy. it's both healing, and heart warming to be able to express and share so honestly and openly knowing that your sisters have your back, and are there for you, just as you are there for them.
This was an immeasurably powerful trip, and I am so honoured and thankful to have had the opportunity.

Thank you to Curvy (@curvycreative), New Caledonia Tourism (@Newcaledoniatourism) and @qantas for making it possible!

Here's how the week went down...
ENJOY!

Château Royal - Luxury amidst New Caledonia's pristine beauty!

One of the best hotel addresses in New Caledonia, the Château Royal Beach Resort & Spa is a chic 4-star resort overlooking the beautiful Anse Vata Bay in Noumea.

The resort is located within 40 minutes of Noumea’s International Airport and a scant 10 minutes from the Magenta Airport. Set on one of the region’s typically white sand beaches, the seven storey Château Royal is set within a three-hectare park lush with tropical flower gardens.

Passage New Caledonia for Loyalty Islands

Impi is a catamaran sailing around the world. We share some techniques in navigation we use to sail in reef infested waters confidently - we are preparing to sail from New Caledonia for The Loyalty Islands and will anchor off the SE side of New Caledonia in a reef fringed bay called Port de Goro.
Navigational aids include SAS PLANET, Open Cpn and the chart plotter.
Port de Goro has some interesting sights including the remnants of a Japanese iron ore loading Wharf which stopped when France joined America ad England in an embargo to halt the flow of natural raw materials to Japan just before the bombing of Pearl Harbour.

Discover the Kanak Culture

????

Immerse yourself in the archipelago’s rich local Kanak culture. There are many ways to get to know the Kanak way of life, from tribe visits and homestays to unforgettable events and meals. No matter how you choose to discover this incredible culture, you’ll find that it’s still very much alive!
Rich with tradition and incredibly warm and welcoming in nature, Kanak culture is well worth discovering during a visit to New Caledonia. Getting to know the local way of life, tantalising your taste buds with traditional food and allowing the people who know the archipelago best to introduce you to its best assets are among the most authentic ways to discover the beauty of New Caledonia. From the unique connection that Kanak culture holds with nature and the region’s spiritual side (encompassing a world of myths and legends), to the ways that the locals fish, farm and create traditional art, you’ll soon realise just how unique the Kanak way of life is.
Kanak culture is based on a strong connection with nature and daily life is organised around the nature’s cycles, with seasons for growing yams or for fishing.
While staying with a tribe, guests generally sleep in typical Melanesian huts set slightly apart from the family house. The clay or cement floor huts have mats for sleeping and a traditional hearth in the centre. Cooking and showering facilities are housed in separate buildings.
Kanak families welcoming you to their tribe will share their customs, their way of life and their know-how during your stay, allowing you to learn more about traditional life in New Caledonia. An experience quite unlike any other, the time spent getting to know the locals who call the archipelago home certainly won’t be forgotten any time soon. Look forward to activities such as traditional fishing, pandanus plaiting (making baskets, mats and more), preparing bougna (a traditional Kanak dish) and visiting yam plantations.
