Kashmir Houseboat Stay For Just INR 1100: Better Than Hotel Stay or Not?
UPDATE on 11th August 2022: I booked the houseboat again and it cost me 1100 INR for a night. Online, it showed as 1250 INR so they gave me a discount of 150 INR. ????
So, you can easily get such amazing houseboats at a lower price as well, depending on the season.
Planning to stay in a houseboat in Srinagar, Kashmir? If yes, then here is everything about my Srinagar Houseboat experience.
????️ Where to Stay
There are lots of houseboat options available on Dal Lake starting from Ghat no. 1 to Ghat no. 10-15.
For my trip to Srinagar, Kashmir I stayed in Houseboat Tashkand which was in front of Ghat No. 8 and was quite warm and cozy.
????️ About Houseboat Tashkand
The houseboat is run by Musa Ji and is quite simple yet beautiful. It isn't like other luxury houseboats in Dal Lake and the USP of this place is its simplicity and authenticity.
I met the amazing family of Musa Ji, his mother who treated me like his own daughter, and his wife who was really sweet and caring.
During my solo trip to Srinagar, I didn't once feel awkward or unsafe, especially while staying with them. Honestly, it felt like a home away from home.
So, if you are looking for a comfortable and budget-friendly houseboat stay in Srinagar, then Tashkand is a super choice!
???? Srinagar, Kashmir Houseboat Price
Since I booked it online, it cost me 3,300 INR for two nights on the EP plan.
Generally, the houseboats can cost you anywhere between 500 - 5000 INR per room, depending on the facilities and comfort provided by them.
If you wish to book a stay with Musa Ji, you can contact them on this number - 7006478132
???? Inclusions and Exclusions
- Since I opted for the EP plan, meals weren't a part of the price. However, you can get it added for an extra fee or order according to your mood.
- They provide you with basic toiletries and a towel for your stay.
- There are blankets and table fans available in each room.
- The living room also features a TV.
Most importantly, there is a cute deck and you can dine on the deck if you wish to. ????
????️ Why Should You Stay in a Houseboat
Honestly, I feel that you should stay at least one night stay in the houseboat. The hospitality and the experience are completely out of the world.
Most importantly, you also get a chance to meet a Kashmiri family and spend some time with them to learn about their lifestyle and culture. ????
Overall, I absolutely loved my Srinagar Houseboat experience and would definitely recommend you to try it once.

We stayed here for 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. He even let us to cook our own food in his kitchen. The houseboat is very clean and affordable. I recommend that you can stay in this houseboat.
He will also help you in purchasing local items from srinagar market at a very good price(much cheaper than usual tourist price).????
We have purchased saffron, shawls, chochlate and other items from him, he was very helpful.

In this vlog, I will give you a full detail about our houseboat Athina Dal Lake, Srinagar. We were in this Houseboat for 1 day.
A houseboat in Srinagar is much similar to hotels, these floating houses vary in size, facilities, and amenities ranging from luxury to mid-range to budget houseboats. The front part of the houseboat is used as deck, you can relax here and enjoy the beauty of the lake. Next is the living room with antique furniture like sofas chairs. These are kept keeping test of guests who want to relax here in a peaceful atmosphere. Next is dinning room with wood dining table and furniture. Chandeliers lighting are kept inside the room giving a high antique look to the room. In our Houseboat there were two bed rooms for couples in which 3 people can accommodate very easily. All furniture inside the rooms are of wood and nicely carving done to give a elegant look. Magnificently stitched traditional crewelwork window curtains are used in all rooms and each room have attached bathroom & toilet. These houseboat cannot move.

Boat vendors come by our boat selling interesting trinkets, and we loved viewing all the picturesque houseboats along the side of the lake. Some tourists like to stay in these houseboat hotels during their visits to Srinagar. After soaking up the incredible lake and mountain views from our boat ride, we visited our tour guide's home for an incredible lunch with his family!
