Reform and Opening-up, a Brilliant Stroke.

In 1978, Xiaogang Village (in Fengyang County, Chuzhou City, Anhui Province) suffered a severe drought. To go through it, Yan Junchang, the leader of the village's production team, called together 18 householders to sit around a kerosene lamp and hold secret discussions on dividing the farmland among themselves. The 18 farmers put their fingerprints in red ink on a crumpled written agreement.

164. Deng Xiaoping's Southern Tour in 1992

Get to know more about China through Historic Journey of China Bit by Bit, you may check out the playlist:

At this crucial point in China’s reform and opening up, Deng Xiaoping once again demonstrated that he possessed the political courage and wisdom needed to guide China along the right path.

Between January the 18th and February the 21st , 1992, he visited Wuchang, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Shanghai. During his trip he made a series of highly important speeches. Deng was 87 years old by this time. Yet he was constantly on the road, inspiring others with his speeches.

He provided a scientific summary of the basic path and practices the country had been following since the reform and opening up began. He provided answers to many key questions that had long been troubling Chinese society. His comments, based on the principles of emancipating the mind and seeking truth from facts, were a declaration that projected China’s reform and opening up into a new era and once again placed China onto the fast track of development.

Building New Cities VS Destroying Old Towns in China

In Shenzhen, they are destroying a whole neighbourhood. Old buildings are being destroyed in all over China in order to build new modern towers and apartment buildings. New cities are being built.

Shenzhen economic reform - from small fishing village to most modern city in China 【深圳】

The development of Shenzhen over the past 50 years has been nothing short of extraordinary. From a small fishing village in the late 1970s to one of the world's most dynamic and thriving metropolises, Shenzhen has become a symbol of rapid urbanization, economic growth, and technological innovation in China.
This video is the first part of our Shenzhen series. In the 1st part of this video, we'll explain how Shenzhen has developed so fast in the last 40 years to become one of the largest megacities in China. In the 2nd part of the video (which will be uploaded separately) I will visit some of the largest tech companies (BYD, Huawei, Tencent) in Shenzhen as well as Huaqiangbei to explain how Shenzhen has become one of the tech centers of the globe.

Shenzhen Speed; 40 years Development from Fishing Village to Metropolis

The Shenzhen story; from fishing village to thriving metropolis.
Before 1979, it was a tiny border fishing village with a small population, and serving merely as a customs stop into the mainland from Hong Kong.

In 1980, it was designated as China's first Special Economic Zone, serving as a pioneer for the country's reform, opening up and re-development. The city was opened to foreign investment, technology, and managerial expertise through the establishment of foreign-owned, joint-venture, and other business enterprises. Now, Shenzhen is regarded as one of the most vibrant megacities and tech manufacturing capital of the world.

163. With Socialism Significantly Weakened, China's Reform and Opening-up Reached a New Point, 1992

Get to know more about China through Historic Journey of China Bit by Bit, you may check out the playlist:

On the one hand, the global economy was rapidly becoming more integrated; with high-tech industries now growing by leaps and bounds, China had ample opportunity to participate in global competition. On the other hand, there remained many deeply-rooted problems in China’s economy that were yet to be resolved.

Socialism had been significantly weakened globally, and the hostile Western forces were all too happy to claim the advent of the “downfall of communism”. The negative impact this had on China domestically, caused some people to lose confidence in the future of socialism and question the nature of China’s reform.

Could China follow through with the Party’s basic blueprints? Could it seize the opportunities as they arose, to accelerate development and push ahead with the reform, opening up and socialist modernization? How these questions were answered would have a major impact on China's development in the 1990s.

On my way to another cool shopping mall, I had time to reflect on this amazing city of Shenzhen China.
Shenzhen, a city of around 11 million people, is now merely one element of the Pearl River Delta, the world’s largest continuously urbanised area with a population of more than 60 MILLION people – not including all the undocumented migrants, nor the inhabitants of its two “special administrative regions”, Hong Kong (7.5 million) and Macao (580,000).

Shenzhen China | Xiasha Village

In this video I am joined by two new friends to go and explore the village of Xiasha. Xiasha is located in the middle of the modern city of Shenzhen. It has held on to a lot of it's buildings and culture from before Shenzhen exploded into the modern city that we all know today. It was a fun and interesting day. I had no idea that a place like this existed within the city of Shenzhen. Follow us as we explore this interesting part of Shenzhen.

Window of The World in ShenZhen | Travel China | Guangdong Vlog | China Solo Travel (Ep. 40)

To be honest, I never thought that I would ever go inside the Eiffel Tower. Then, one random day in China, I visited the Window Of The World in ShenZhen, and they had a mini replica of the Eiffel Tower - so of course the local man and I decided to go to the top!

There were two elevators that we had to take to get to the top of the tower. The 2nd elevator was jammed because two teens decided to press buttons which locked the elevator, and created backup problems with groups of people behind us. The employee was very angry at the situation! haha, crazy times.

Anyway, the Window of the world was MUCH bigger than I thought it was going to be and more interesting than I thought it would be as well! I would definitely like to go back and visit this place again and try out some of the rides that they have available!

???????? 33 - SHENZHEN 深圳, Guangdong, China - Block Explorer

Shenzhen (深圳; Shēnzhèn) is a city in Guangdong Province in China. It lies immediately North of Hong Kong separated only by a narrow river. Shenzhen lies directly en route between Hong Kong and China's third-largest city, Guangzhou which is approximately 100 kilometres (62 mi) North West of Shenzhen. Shenzhen was a market town of 30,000 people until designated in 1980 as the first of China's five Special Economic Zones. It then became the fastest growing city in history to today become a thriving, well planned metropolis of 20 million people.

Being such a new city, Shenzhen's inhabitants and visitors have the advantage of planned street grids, modern construction at all but its historical buildings and excellent public transport among its infrastructure. Also considering the mostly flat terrain, Shenzhen is among the most disabled friendly cities in China. Shenzhen is on the list of UNESCO Creative Cities and ranked second on the list of ‘Top 10 cities to visit in 2019' by Lonely Planet.
