Looking to visit Bora Bora? Well, there are no direct international flights to the small tropical island. Most travelers must fly into Papeete (PPT) on Tahiti and then take a 45-minute flight to Bora Bora via Air Tahiti airlines. Air Tahiti is the domestic airline of French Polynesia. Air Tahiti operates 11 turboprop aircraft, including (3) ATR42-500 and (7) ATR72-500 planes.

The Most Beautiful Flight - Air Tahiti to Bora Bora

I traveled on Air Tahiti to explore the beauty of French Polynesian islands. My flight is from Papeete to Bora Bora with a stop at Huahine. I was invited to fly in the cockpit jumpseat on Air Tahiti ATR 72-600. Our first leg from Papeete to Huahine took about 30 minutes flying at 12,000 ft. We had a clear view of Moorea on the way.

Huahine is an island located among the Society Islands. Our flight brings in locals, tourists and daily supplies. Flying time to Bora Bora was just 15 minutes, at 4,000 ft. The weather becomes clear and I can see the turquoise-blue ocean and crystal-clear lagoon. The scenery was out of this world and it was one of the most beautiful flights I’ve taken.

There are no roads and no cars at Bora Bora airport. The only transportation is by boat to the main center or hotel. My flight back to Papeete was equally scenic, we flew low over some Tahitian overwater bungalow. Aviation plays an important role in transporting travelers and cargo supplies to these islands.

Air Tahiti Nui airlines flight: Tahiti to Los Angeles

This video is documents our travels from FAAA Airport in Papeete, Tahiti to our home destination in Los Angeles, CA. We flew Air Tahiti Nui Airlines flight #8 which departed at 7:50 am and arrived at LAX 8 hours later. We were pleased to fly Poerava Business Class during the flight and so this video includes some of the breakfast/dinner options that we experienced.

Tahitian Dreamliner: Air Tahiti Nui - The Most Exotic 787

I hopped on an Air Tahiti Nui Boeing 787 Dreamliner from Auckland to Papeete, French Polynesia. Air Tahiti Nui 787 is the most colorful and the most exotic 787 I’ve flown. Flight attendants gave out tiara flowers to passengers. The flight was an immersive experience of Tahitian culture.

I literally traveled back in time and gained a day by flying from the earliest time zone (New Zealand) to the last timezone (Tahiti) by crossing the dateline on this flight. Tahiti is located in the middle of the South Pacific with isolation. The nearest diversion point is Cook Island. As a nice welcome, Polynesian music was performed after landing at Papeete Faa’a International Airport.

I spent a day exploring the island of Papeete by visiting a waterfall and spending some time planespotting. Next week, I will fly on Air Tahiti domestically to explore the Tahitian Islands of Huahine and Bora Bora.

Air Tahiti VT733 • VT464 : Flying from Papeete to Bora Bora via Raiatea

5th June 2023

The first double feature on the channel! After a long layover, I was excited to travel to paradise, more famously known as Bora Bora. My first leg to Raiatea is aboard Air Tahiti on their 8 years old ATR 42-600, F-ORVC and my second leg to Bora Bora is on their 6 years old ATR 72-600, F-ORVU. I would've flown direct to Bora Bora but I couldn't pass up on the opportunity to fly on the ATR 42 because frankly, I don't know if I will ever get another chance.

Once we checked in and got our breakfast, we relaxed in the departures area until the time to board was near. After passing through security screening, boarding commenced at Gate 53 and I was surprised to learn that we got to choose our own seats. I settled in Seat 3D with a great view of the engine. Soon after, we taxied to the runway and took off towards Raiatea. Some refreshments were served and I got an orange juice. It didn't take long before we landed at Raiatea and taxied towards Gate 1. The airport was very small and we collected our bag from the baggage collection area. Our next flight was a few hours away so we spent some time at the airport. Once it was time, we checked in again and witnessed the arrival of our plane from Papeete. Boarding commenced again and I settled in Seat 9A. There were other passengers onboard who came from Papeete. Very soon after, the plane taxied to the runway and took off towards Bora Bora. This was the shortest flight I've ever been on – an unbelievable 13 minutes! We landed at beautiful Bora Bora where we collected our bag and were welcomed by a representative from our accommodation, Le Bora Bora. This was already an epic start to a life-changing trip and I can't wait to show more :)

I apologise for the late upload of this video as I have been travelling a lot in the past couple of months, and haven't had the time to edit. I will try to bring back monthly uploads as fast as I can so I do appreciate your patience as these videos will slowly (but surely) release over the coming months. Air Tahiti Nui airlines flight from Los Angeles to Papeete

This is what its like flying Air Tahiti Nui airlines from Los Angeles, CA to Papeete, Tahiti. Along this amazing 4,000 mile journey both Jessica and I enjoyed sitting in the newly remodeled Poerava Business Class cabin. It was a smooth 8 hour ride flying in this Airbus A340. When we landed, we received a nice French Polynesian welcome at the airport.

FLYING to BORA-BORA is SCARY! (Air Tahiti airlines)

This was our first time flying to Bora-Bora with Air Tahiti from the biggest island of Tahiti to Bora-Bora island. We got into a thunderstorm and our plane couldn't land because of heavy rain and winds. Very scary. But we made it. Usually the flight is relatively short, only 50 minutes. Our flight was 1:30 min and we made an additional stop on Rairatea island to pickup some more passengers. The flight was pretty expensive for such a short commute. Booking from the US it's $400 return flight per person. Watch the video, we'll share a secret on how to find a better price deal on this flight!

Flying into Bora Bora from Tahiti French Polynesia - Arrival flight into Bora Bora island

Video of our flight into the beautiful island of Bora Bora, as seen on approach. We flew to Bora Bora island from Tahiti.

Top tip to get the best view of island on arrival sit on the left side of the plane. The plane flight to Bora Bora is open seating so get in line first to ensure you get a seat on the left side of plane. Also I hope your window is clean :-)

For those that don't know, there are no direct international flights to Bora Bora because the runway is not very long. Most all travelers have to fly into the main international airport in Papeete on the island of Tahiti and then make a transfer in a smaller aircraft to reach Bora Bora airport. Air Tahiti is the domestic airline of French Polynesia and from Tahiti it is roughly 50 minutes of flying time on board Air Tahiti airlines before reaching the jewel of the Pacific.

Since the airport is located on an island (or motu), you have to take a boat to your resort or to the main ferry terminal on the main island.
