Exploring The Most BEAUTIFUL Villages In LEBANON

Rise Above Lebanon (Full Version)

Follow on instagram! @riseabovelebanon

We spent 5 summer months filming Lebanon from Above, including its rural, urban, cultural touristic and historical location, as well as the amazing number of festivals.

The idea was to show Lebanon's beauty, diversity and wealth from another angle (above), in order to encourage and promote international and domestic tourism.

My main personal goal is to remind us all that Lebanon is not all about problems, political turmoil, trash...etc but is first and foremost a country that has so much to offer on such a small portion of land, and is still, in spite of everything, truly beautiful.

Maybe by seeing this video, people who lost sight of what Lebanon truly is, will have newfound optimism and strength to participate in steering the country in the right direction, to understand that it is their country to love and protect.

_____________________________________________________

We filmed from mid June to early November and covered Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Southern Lebanon, the Bekaa, Baalbek and North Lebanon.

The book, also titled Rise Above Lebanon, was released on 2 December 2015. it is a hardcover photography book of the highest standard, with 200 pages of images of Lebanon from Above and is available in all major bookshops in Lebanon.

Lebanon - the biggest forest in the Middle East, colourful Falougha lakes, Jezzine & Bkassine towns

In this episode of Lebanese travels, we will go to the mountain towns of Jezzine and Bkassine, we'll see the largest pine forest in the Middle East and we'll visit the colourful lakes of Falougha. Get to know these amazing places and their history with us!

The film has subtitles in Polish and English. You can enable them in the settings.

----------------------------------------------------------

Jezzine:
It is said that Jezzine was the granary of the Phoenicians, the place where they hid their treasures. This small town-like village, famous for its cutlery craftsmanship, its 70m high waterfalls and its breathtaking view of one of the largest pine forests in the Mediterranean basin, is considered to be now the first summer destination of South Lebanon. It stands out for its remarkable buildings, including the Ottoman-style municipal palace, the Serhal Palace, its churches, its convents, some of which date from the eighteenth century, and its old paved souk where many cutlery artisans expose their work.

Bkassine:
Nestled in one of the most beautiful pine forests of the Middle-East, the village of Bkassine offers a breathtaking view of the lush nature of Wadi Jezzine. The village is characterized by the charm of its central square, small souk, red-tiled houses and charming streets. Olive trees represent the most widespread agriculture in the village and ensure one of the best oil productions in the region. Every year in September, Bkassine is a festive village where visitors come to celebrate Saint Takla, in a church considered as one of the most beautiful churches in Lebanon. Bkassine is a village with an undeniable traditional character.

Falougha:
Falougha is a peaceful village of Mount Lebanon that illustrates the Lebanese archetypal summer resort. Two winter rivers intersect the village which is known for its water sources and green hills, dotted with a wide variety of trees and furrowed by hiking trails. The village has preserved its traditional 19th century appearance, with its many red-tiled stone houses. Falougha is synonymous with adventure and discovery.

----------------------------------------------------------

Explanations of terms used in the video:

The Maronites (Arabic: الموارنة; Syriac: ܡܖ̈ܘܢܝܐ) are a Christian ethnoreligious group native to the Eastern Mediterranean and Levant region of the Middle East, whose members traditionally belong to the Maronite Church, with the largest concentration long residing near Mount Lebanon in modern Lebanon. The Maronite Church is an Eastern Catholic church in full communion with the Pope and the rest of the Catholic Church. The Maronites derive their name from the Syriac Christian saint Maron.

The Melkite Greek Catholic Church is an Eastern Catholic church in full communion with the Holy See as part of the worldwide Catholic Church. The Melkites, Byzantine Rite Catholics, trace their history to the early Christians of Antioch of the 1st century AD, where Christianity was introduced by Saint Peter. The Melkite Church shares the Byzantine Rite with the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and other Eastern Orthodox churches.

The Syriac language (Classical Syriac: ܠܫܢܐ ܣܘܪܝܝܐ‎) is an Aramaic dialect that emerged during the first century AD from a local Aramaic dialect that was spoken by Arameans in the ancient Aramean kingdom of Osroene. During the Early Christian period, it became the main literary language of various Aramaic-speaking Christian communities in the historical region of Ancient Syria and throughout the Near East. Along with Greek and Latin, Syriac became one of the three most important languages of Early Christianity. Syriac remains the sacred language of Syriac Christianity to this day.

The Druze are an Arabic-speaking esoteric ethnoreligious group from Western Asia who adhere to the Druze faith, an Abrahamic, monotheistic, syncretic, and ethnic religion based on the teachings of Hamza ibn Ali ibn Ahmad and ancient Greek philosophers like Plato, Aristotle, Pythagoras, and Zeno of Citium. The Epistles of Wisdom is the foundational and central text of the Druze faith. The Druze faith incorporates elements of Isma'ilism, Christianity, Gnosticism, Neoplatonism, Zoroastrianism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Pythagoreanism, and other philosophies and beliefs, creating a distinct and secretive theology based on an esoteric interpretation of scripture, which emphasizes the role of the mind and truthfulness. Druze believe in theophany and reincarnation, they do not permit outsiders to convert to their religion and most of their religious practices are kept secret.

Travel Vlog - explore the city of Tyre / Sour and travel through South Lebanon.

Travel vlog - explore the city of Tyre (or Sour in arabic) and travel through South Lebanon up to the border town of Naqoura.

Tyre is an ancient Phoenician city and the legendary birthplace of Europa and Dido (the founder and first queen of Carthage). Today it is the second largest city in South Lebanon after Sidon (Saida). In Tyre, you will find several archaeological sites. The archaeological remains date back mainly to Roman times, including baths, an arena, a colonnaded road, a triumphal arch, an aqueduct and a hippodrome. As a tourist, you shouldn't miss the old town of Tyre with its fishing harbour and the neighbouring Christian Quarter. In the modern part of Tyre, you will find the corniche with plenty of restaurants and cafes.

South Lebanon is a primarily rural area. Driving through the countryside, one comes across many picturesque villages and small towns. The village of Maghdouche is one such place. It is located about 3 kms inland on the top of a hill. Maghdouche is known for the Lady of Mantara Statue and the Lady of Mantara Church.

The area along the Lebanese-Israeli border is also extremely beautiful and definitely worth exploring. Naqoura is a small coastal town located right at the border with Israel. It is home to a large UNIFIL base (the United Nations peacekeeping mission to Lebanon).

Mtein, Lebanon - The Most Peaceful Mountain Village in Lebanon? (+ Stroll the Mtein Silk Factory)

#Mtein #MteinLebanon #MteinSilkFactory

In this video, join us for a walking tour of Mtein, a peaceful (perhaps even the most peaceful) village in the Lebanese mountains. This historic village boasts palaces and other residences typical of the traditional Lebanese architecture from the 17th to the 19th century. It is one of the oldest villages in Lebanon, but it rose to prominence in 1616 when the Abillama emirs decided to settle there. One of the most notable parts of Mtein is its central square, the midane, around which were built the sumptuous palaces of the emirs. Note that the first duel of sung poetry known as “Lebanese Zajal” took place in Mtein.

In addition to the silk factory in Mtein (there are actually several Mtein silk factories), you could visit the Mtein wineries, the scattered ancient Roman and Byzantine ruins, the ancient olive oil presses, art museums, and apparently even a blacksmith in Mtein.

In this particular video, we had time to visit the Mtein silk factory, the Mtein main square, and to show views of the drive to and from this beautiful Lebanese mountain village.
