Caye Caulker & Placencia, Belize: World's 2nd largest coral reef & Belize Caribbean coast 4K

Check out our video of 10 days spent in Caye Caulker Belize and Placencia in the South of the country. During our stay in Caye Caulker at Barefoot Caye Caulker Hotel, we explored the island, ate some of the best lobster and seafood of our lives and did a snorkeling tour to the Hol Chan national reserve, part of 2nd biggest coral reef in the world in Belize. During the Caye Caulker snorkeling tour with Salt Life Eco Tours, we saw nurse sharks, manatees, turtles, eagle rays, sting rays & much more.

From Caye Caulker, Belize, we then headed south to Placencia, a small and relaxed vibe town where we spent a few days before catching the once a week direct boat to Puerto Cortes, Honduras. Like Caye Caulker, there's plenty of snorkel tours, fishing tours and island trips you can do from Placencia, although we spent most of the time relaxing on the beach and around the town having already done the tours we wanted to in Caye Caulker.

PLACENCIA TO CAYE CAULKER: Traveling from beach to island in Belize

Traveling between scenic beach towns in Belize often means a small prop plane take off from Placencia airport, a taxi from Belize airport to water taxi and a water taxi to Caye Caulker. That about sums up our journey from Placencia to Caye Caulker.

The Belize aerial view is spectacular. Watching rivers wind their way through the beautiful jungle from the air was quite the sight. The entire flight was picture-worthy - it was a great view of the stunning landscape.

We also share how to find the airport bar in Placencia. You don't need to arrive more than 20 minutes before your flight. There is no security, baggage check or passport control. Just a simple, Hi, I'm here, and you are good to go.

Of course, we arrived too early and we needed to kill some time. We ended up hiking down the beach to enjoy one last beer in this little bit of paradise. It was so worth the trek and the sweat.

“Let’s go” has pretty much been our life’s motto since we met nearly 25 years ago. We met in New York, moved to San Diego together, and married in Lake Tahoe – all within five months. When you know, you know – you know what we mean?

Now, after raising two adventure-seeking boys, we are ready to get out and explore some more. Our children have begun their lives and now it’s time to begin the second-half of ours.

We wanted a challenge and something fun, so we are starting an adventure of a lifetime. We’re calling it #60×60. Our plan is to travel to 60 countries by the time Kim turns 60 (that’s in 6 years by the way).

Holiday in CAYE CAULKER - Belize - Cinematic VIDEO

While travelling around Central America, we decided to visit Belize. We didn't have much time, so we decided to choose only one place which turned out to be amazing Caye Caulker. The main motto of the locals is go slow and they obey it so much that you can get a warning when you march too fast! We were planning to stay there for three days but we eventually left after five! We drank beer on the popular Split, sunbathed at Koko King resort, dived with stingrays and sharks and ate delicious lobsters. And we captured it all with a gopro camera and a dji drone.

Belize Day 6 - A day at Caye Caulker

Belize Day 6 - Caye Caulker, Belize
Caye Caulker is a small Caribbean island off the coast of Belize. It’s divided by a narrow channel called the Split, where there’s a bar and a sandy beach. To the south is the island’s only settlement, known as Caye Caulker Village. The north of the island is home to dense mangrove forest and diverse birdlife, protected by a forest reserve. The Caye Caulker Marine Reserve has dive sites on the Belize Barrier Reef.

Where To Eat Caye Caulker Belize Best local food Caye Caulker Budget restaurant Caye Caulker

Where To Eat On Caulker

OK. You're just arrived in Caye Caulker and you're hungry, right? You want to know where to eat in Caye Caulker?

There are a lot of great options for you to choose from. If you're the adventurous type with a tight budget, you might try the street side vendors on Front street. You can get basic, no frills grilled seafood, fried plantain and other choices.

However, if you've budgeted to eat at local sit down eateries, then there are a number of local options for you to consider.

One of my favorites is Godfrey's Seaside Grill... located a short walk south from the ferry dock. One reason you'll like it is that it is a waterside location, so the ambiance is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

One thing my wife and I share at Godfrey's are the Lobster and Stone Crab dinners. Believe me... it's hard to go wrong with these delicious choices. And... if you are lucky... you might get a discount on your drinks.

One thing we did during our last visit is to spearfish some snapper. We dropped them off at Godfrey's and came back several hours later to a superbly cooked snapper dinner. So if you catch any fish, this is a great service and believe me , it's a treat to eat the fresh fish or lobster you've just caught.

If you are looking for a great breakfast spot, check out their morning menu. You'll find traditional Belizean breakfast fare that include fry jacks to traditional American breakfast items. And of course... other items include yogurt with granola, a bountiful fruit plate and coffee from the interior of Belize.

See our other video:

Caye Caulker Belize

Caye Caulker is a small limestone coral island off the coast of Belize in the Caribbean Sea measuring about 5 miles (8.0 km) (north to south) by less than 1 mile (1.6 km) (east to west). The town on the island is known by the name Caye Caulker Village.
Caye Caulker is located approximately 20 miles (32 km) north-northeast of Belize City, and is accessible by high-speed water taxi or small plane. In recent years the island has become a popular destination for tourists. There are over 30 tiny hotels, and a number of restaurants and shops.
The island is basically a sand bar over a limestone shelf. Underwater caves are found in the limestone (which have claimed the lives of several scuba divers exploring them). In front of the village, a shallow lagoon, between 6 inches (150 mm) and 14 feet (4.3 m) deep, meets the Belize Barrier Reef to the east. Tour guides take pride in taking visitors to premier snorkel and dive sites just off shore. Caye Caulker's Shark Ray Alley puts adventures in chest deep water alongside curious Southern Sting Rays, Nurse Sharks and schools of colourfull fish.

Godfreys Grill Bar On Caye Caulker Belize Breakfast Lunch Dinner Waterside On Caye Caulker

Godfrey's Grill and Bar is a special place that you need to check out when visiting Caye Caulker.

It's seaside, overlooking the water, sea life, boats and birds. With outside seating, you can enjoy breakfast lunch or dinner while overlooking the waves breaking on the reef.

Godfrey's is air conditioned and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Check out their menu items here:

If yo want to see what other visitors have to say... you can see a hundred or more Travel Advisor reviews by clicking this link:

My wife and I have eaten at many of the island restaurants and there are some really great choices... but for value for your tourist dollar, Godfrey's offers the best all around menu choices and the prices are a little lower than some of the better known eateries.

Check out this video showing a little of the nighttime atmosphere...

One thing I've grown to appreciate is the owners black lab... Roxie. When I feel a little sad about leaving Tica, our terrier, home... just giving Roxie a good pet makes me feel so much better.

Come by and say hello to Godfrey... the owner and host. A really nice person giving great value to Caye Caulker travelers. Located several minutes south of the main ferry dock and in front of Popeye's condos on the main waterfront path.
