Travel Videos (Subscribe Now) ????
Surrounded by the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, the slender land bridge of Central America runs from Mexico to South America and is made up of seven countries — Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Political and civil unrest in the 1980s kept most tourists away for a long time, but now the area is a hotspot for travelers, surfers, luxury travelers, and even retirees.

Why?

Because traveling Central America is a safe, beautiful, filled with history, and affordable.

People have realized that it’s not the place the media makes it out to be and I’m glad the collective consciousness is shifting.

The region’s rainforests are filled with unexplored Mayan ruins and wildlife, its beaches are great for surfing, its reefs great for diving, there’s a huge variety of flora and fauna here, and the cheap accommodation, food, and transport throughout the region make it a budget traveler’s dream.

I began my nomadic life traveling around Central America.

And, whenever I backpack Central America, I fall in love even more with the friendliness of the people, the tasty food, the weather, history, and beauty.

This travel guide to Central America will give you all the tips you need to have a memorable trip to this part of the world!

Top 5 Things to See and Do in Central America
=====================================
1. Explore volcanoes
This region is rich in volcanoes. Pacaya (Guatemala) is still active and frequently erupts ash clouds; Poás (Costa Rica) is famous for its enormous mile-long crater and crater lake; Arenal (Costa Rica) has hiking trails, geothermal springs, and a gorgeous lake; and you can sand-board down the side of Masaya in Nicaragua.

2. See Mayan ruins
The region has many ruin sites but the most impressive are Tikal in Guatemala, Copán in Honduras, and San Andrés in El Salvador. The intricate wall carvings, imposing pyramids, and crumbling columns make for amazing photographs and should not be missed. Prices will vary but expect to spend around 20 USD for admission.

3. Caye Caulker, Belize
This little island is quite popular with backpackers. It is less expensive than some of the larger islands in the country and has a relaxed atmosphere to it. July is a great time to go because of their lobster festival. Make sure you also eat at Wish Willy’s for amazing seafood and chicken.

4. Visit the Panama Canal
First opened in 1914, the Panama Canal is 50 miles long and uses three sets of locks — Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks on the Pacific side and Gatun Locks on the Caribbean side.

5- Much of the region is covered in vast, humid, and stunning rainforests. A popular way to see these is to take a canopy tour, where you’ll be suspended on a zip-line and glide over the tops of the trees. The rainforests are filled with diverse wildlife, including howler monkeys, jaguars, lizards and tropical birds.

Other Things to See and Do in Central America
=======================================
1. Head to Antigua, Guatemala

Considered one of the best-preserved colonial cities in all of the Spanish America’s, Antigua (in Guatemala) is a major travel hot spot for backpackers. There are tons of pubs, restaurants, coffee shops, plenty of hostels, and even Spanish schools if you want a reason to stay longer!

2. Go diving (or learn)

The shores around Central America are home to many coral reefs. As such, diving is hugely popular. The colors and variety of fish will amaze you, as will the clear visibility. Diving here is cheaper than in the Caribbean and most parts of Mexico. Popular dive countries include Panama, Honduras, and Belize. Expect to pay 50-100 USD for a two-tank dive, or a few hundred dollars for your certification course.

3. Tour coffee plantations

The entire region is known for its coffee, particularly Costa Rica and Panama. Tour the plantations, and see how the beans are grown, picked, and ground. You can also pick up fresh coffee at heavily discounted prices. I’ve found the best coffee to be from Monteverde, Costa Rica….and I don’t even like coffee! But I drank this — it tasted like chocolate!

4. Visit Chichicastenango

Most people who come to Guatemala visit Chichicastenango, the largest native market in Central America. Most stalls carry handicrafts, blankets, pottery, and souvenirs, and these markets are often also the best places to find local food for very little money.

5. Tour the museums

Most cities in the region are filled with museums, particularly those paying homage to the Mayan civilization. The Gold Museum in San José, Costa Rica is fascinating. For Mayan artifacts, head to the Copán Village Archaeology Museum (7 USD admission).

How to walk across the border @ El Salvador - Honduras - Nicaragua ????????????????????????

Super detailed video about how to get from El Salvador to (or through) Honduras and to Nicaragua just by yourself and without taking any of the overprized 'tourist shuttles'.

I literally walk you through the process of walking across the borders, paper work, fees. Where to walk to and where to catch the local busses.

Shancon Central America #26 Enter my 88th country ????????Honduras from ????????El Salvador by land border..

In #26,I shared my border crossing experience to ????????Honduras from ????????El Salvador by land border, the border which I took is El Amatillo, you can take a direct bus from San Salvador to there from the new terminal, it cost 6usd, about enter ????????Honduras, you just show the vaccination card then you don't have to take any extra covid test to enter.

Another info is entering ????????Honduras in this border you need to pay 3 usd fee, and the changing rate of there on that day was 1usd to 23 lempira(????????Honduras money),very low, so better change only 10 usd for the bus, very strange thing is all the banks of there don't change money for people so only with the people on the street, mabey you could get 1to 23.5 there, you need to ask and try.In the bank of the capital of ????????Honduras, the changing rate is higher than 24.

If you go the capital Tegucigalpa, you take the bus which the direction is Choluteca but get off from the bus in Jicaro Galan, it cost 40 Lempira, then from there you change to another bus to Tegucigalpa which cost 80 Lempira.(2021.11.24)

El Salvador border crossing by Boat to Nicaragua

We're off to Nicaragua by BOAT!! Gotta love boats.

Most backpackers in Central take the bus route from El Salvador through Honduras and then into Nicaragua, but in this video we show you a different possibility. This is the boat trip from La Union, El Salvador to Potosi, Nicaragua skipping Honduras all together.

The journey took two hours in total and was organized by Mario (don't know his sir name) in La Union. If you're interested in doing the journey it costs $65 USD and runs basically whenever there are enough people (min. 3 I think). Mario's contact is golfo_fonseca@hotmail.com and via phone / whatsapp +503 7282 4362.

The journey was totally worth the money especially with good weather. From Potosi we hitch hiked to Jiquillio and stayed there for a couple nights. There is no ATM in Potosi or Jiquillio so make sure you have enough dollars when entering Nicaragua.

Any quetions please put them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them asap :) Hope you like the video, thanks for watching and Buen Viaje!!!

Couchsurfing Honduras | SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER | Ep. 51 | La Esperanza

This is why you want to couchsurf ! Although some people ask me whether it is safe to couchsurf in Honduras / Central America / Latin America as a solo female traveler, I believe that by carefully selecting a well reviewed host, you can have the best time exploring a foreign country! What made backpacking and traveling in Central America amazing for me was couchsurfing and hangingout with the locals. Especially in La Esperanza, Honduras, I had the best experience couchsurfing with Gestler and his family. I really saw what the Honduras family life was like and what the everyday life consists of. I got to taste delicious Honduran food and even got to try out how to make real Central American tortillas! The benefits of couchsurfing are not only that you get to taste delicious local food but also learn about the country, and their culture and their history. Through couchsurfing, I learnt about Lenca culture and got answers to questions about culture differences that had been bothering me.

Solo female traveler's travel documentary on Mexico, Central America and South America. Showing how to travel cheap as a backpacker in Latin America through hitchhiking, CouchSurfing and WorkAway. Showing how to travel safe and alone in Central America: Nicaragua, El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Belize as well as Puerto Rico and backpacking in Mexico. JoLo World Vlog week 24-28: Central America (Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Nicaragua)

This is a video on our drive through Central America; Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua. Belize has some beautiful Maya remains. Guatemala is an amazing country, and of course there was a stop in Antigua. El Salvador has become a much safer country than some years ago. By then the news of Covid-19 had reached us and we couldn't stay.
Honduras was crossed in one day. The borders of Nicaragua - both coming in and going out - are really tedious as you will see! In Nicaragua we had a long drive to an empty beach, a very beautiful place. But it was a bad idea to get stuck there.
So with haste we both got to Costa Rica in time, one week before they closed the borders. Just in time!
So not much footage, but still an image of how Central America was before the pandemics.

Worst way to Cross the Honduran/El Salvador Border!! ????????/????????

Crossing the border between Honduras and El Salvador should be an easy task. You can either fly directly from one country to another, which is the fastest way, or you can also use direct buses from some major cities and drive across the 2 borders without any difficulty.

I decided to use the old school which is the entrance on foot!! It will take you more time, it is cheaper, but I guarantee you that even this is not difficult.

My whole trip turned out to be a completely stressful race because I fell asleep that morning, missed the first bus and was only carrying $ 10 in cash with me ... after that it was the beginning of chaos...

Crossing the border to Nicaragua | SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER | Ep. 53

I woke up excited because THIS BACKPACKER'S ADVENTURE CONTINUED TO NICARAGUA! Since I started traveling alone in Puerto Rico and Mexico, every traveler I met along my way, backpacking down Central America, told me Nicaragua was going to be epic! So I had really big exceptions that I was trying to manage. So, I had to get from Tegucigalpa, Honduras to Somoto Canyon, Nicaragua. I decided to bus my way to the border of Nicaragua, as my couchsurfing host told me the outskirts of Tegucigalpa were a bit dangerous, and then hitchhike from the border of Nicaragua to the Canyon of Somoto. Crossing the border from Tegucigalpa, Honduras to Nicaragua from the border of Los Manos (Frontera Los Manos) wasn't as easy as I thought though. However, after finally getting my passport stamped and through the Nicaraguan border control, I realized my plan of hitchhiking might fail as there were no cars driving towards Somoto Canyon!
