Exploring Bonnechere Caves in Eganville, Ontario
We were guests of Chris Hinsberger at Bonnechere Caves in Eganville Ontario. We had an incredible time exploring the 500,000,000-year-old fossils and the incredible rooms of this very cool cave in Ontario.
Our guide regaled us with stories about how the cave was discovered in 1955 and the misadventures of its founder, Tom Woodward.

There's a place in eastern Ontario that allows you to go over 100 feet underground. The Bonnechere Caves is a MUST-experience!
Put on a light sweater, wear comfy shoes, go deep underground and millions of years back in time. Located about 2 hours west of Ottawa, along the Bonnechere River, guided tours give you an up close and personal look into the caves and how they were formed.
You’ll also learn more about different types of rocks, the impact glaciers have had on the landscape and of course, fossils!
If you reserve in advance, you may get the chance to eat dinner in the caves or even take in a live concert. The Bonnechere Caves is a complete experience that everyone will love!

Eganville 2016, Douglas Connection, Music in the Park,
Eganville sponsors a Music in the Park evening throughout July and August every summer. The Douglas Connection is playing Ward Allen's tune, Maple Sugar, in the summer of 2016. Note the dancer on the hill at about 1:14 seconds into the tune. She danced throughout the whole song. There is no admission charge. Bring your own lawn chair and refreshments. Thanks to all the musicians who freely give of their time and talent.

We went 60 feet below the surface, where the temperature stays around 10 to 12 degrees celcius. One narrow path leads to several open chambers in this series of caves and fossils that dates back to the Ordovician Period.
Bonnechere Caves are also real-life bat-cave. No Joke - It's home to several bats in the winter months! How cool is that?!?!
This was definitely the highlight of our time in the Ottawa Valley and Ontario's Highlands!

Exploring Bonnechere Caves near Eganville Ontario
This is a tourist cave with guided tours. Not what we would usually do, but we have wanted to check these out for some time. This was mostly worth the $17 to get in. From what we could see, there is plenty more cave to be explored that is not open to the public. Be sure to check out the side passage that the guide does not go down.

The municipality is known for its lake and rivers especially the Bonnechere River which flows directly through the village.
