Explore the world famous beach and rock grottos of The Baths on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. This is where we spent our honeymoon, and we couldn't have had a better time. Virgin Gorda is a stunning island in the BVI and ranks right up there as one of our favorite places in the Caribbean. We highly recommend a visit!

A Salty Passion: Hi! We are Ryan (RumShopRyan) and Crystal (Castaway Crystal), we document, photograph, and film the best the Caribbean has to offer. Whether it’s stunning beaches, relaxing hotels, friendly restaurants, or soggy beach bars…we want to share it and inspire others to explore the islands.

MEET US!

Who Is RumShopRyan:
Howdy! I’m Ryan and I hail from the land-locked, can’t get any further from the ocean, state of Kansas. I moved to laid back southwest Florida in 2001. I didn’t know a single person and didn’t have a job. Risky I know, but the ocean was calling and I had to answer.
I’m a huge fan of Kansas City sports, so you’ll probably see a lot of Jayhawks, Chiefs and Royals attire in my photos. Kansas City is a great town and I’m glad I’m from there, but the coastal life was calling. It’s kind of like Kenny Chesney’s “island boy” song. Check out the lyrics and you’ll see what I mean.

I write because I’m passionate about the Caribbean and the island lifestyle, and it’s my way to share it with you. If it has anything to do with the Caribbean, rum drinks, beach style music, or Caribbean culture, you’ll be able to find it on this site.

When in the Caribbean you’ll find a camera around my neck and note pad in my pocket. This is how I document the experiences in unique and interesting ways and bring it back to you, the Castaways.

Who is Castaway Crystal:
I was raised in Southwest Florida so it’s no surprise that I have a love for beaches, water and nature. As a child, most weekends were spent fishing in the warm gulf waters on the family boat. As an adult, most weekends are spent soaking up the sun on Ft. Myers Beach. Even though I have always loved the coastal life, I don’t think I fully appreciated it until I moved to Nashville, TN. I’m all about experiencing new things, and as a Licensed Massage Therapist I thought it would be amazing to massage some of Nashville’s biggest stars (a girl can dream right?). But I missed the sun and sand too much—and let’s not forget the rum runners! After a year I couldn’t take it anymore, this sun bunny moved back to her coast of somewhere beautiful.

I’ve always been passionate about photography and writing but my passions never really had a purpose until I met Ryan. I couldn’t be happier being Ryan’s first mate and sharing my photos and stories with you. May they inspire you to go after your tropical dreams and wishes. Make a plan…Set a date…Just go!

Gumption Tour of Necker | British Virgin Islands

Check out our full Oct. 2014 BVI trip!

@NomadicGear

The famous Gumption takes us on a tour of Necker Island and surrounding waters to see a plethora of animals - a lot we had never seen before. We got to see a lot of Richard Branson's island and hike around the volcanic terrain.

Lemurs, flamingos, tortoises, rare turtles, even more rare ibises, iguanas, and so much more! In the surrounding coves and even open water, Gumption pointed out some great wildlife including a nursing shark, hundreds of starfish and some great underwater gems like the sunken cannon you see in the video.

After either crawling through the boulders at The Baths or hiking down the path from Top of the Baths, the reward is stunning at Devil’s Bay. This small sandy beach is surrounded by huge boulders on each side. There is great snorkeling and it’s usually more of a quiet beach as compared to the main beach at The Baths.

There is no concessions, so bring water and food if you plan to stay. There isn’t much shade except for up by the trees a little.

The Baths and Devil’s Bay are amazing beaches, definitely must see spots when heading to Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands.

VIRGIN GORDA, BVI: Savannah Bay Beach

Savannah Bay Beach is the longest stretch of sand on Virgin Gorda, and we walked it all—taking photos and video along the way. That is what you will see here.

We spent a week on Virgin Gorda for our honeymoon. This island in the British Virgin Islands is most famous for The Baths, but there are treasures to be explored and enjoyed around every turn. We highly recommend a visit, just don’t forget to sink your toes into the sand of Savannah Bay Beach.

The British Virgin Islands are some of the most beautiful Caribbean islands in existence. We know because we just returned from a week on Scrub Island in the BVI island nation.

Over the course of our week of British Virgin Islands travel, we visited Norman Island, The Baths, The Caves, Virgin Gorda, and had a chance to try the world-famous Painkiller cocktail.

ABOUT US.

We’re the Lockwoods: a family with 3 kids, 5 careers, and endless passion for adventure. Two years ago, we decided it was time for Phil's ad agency to abandon the in-person, 5-day workweek. So they 86’d the office and work hours, allowing our own family to start traveling almost constantly. We now work, school, and explore in a different place every week—from our own mountain and beach homes to exotic villas, resorts, and yachts around the world. As we experience and support diverse cultures, we hope to inspire more families to design a life of freedom and adventure.

Because there’s a new American Dream. It’s one that’s void of templated expectations, templated career paths, templated education, templated families, templated homes, and templated lives. Freedom is no longer an American tagline—it’s just the new, global way of life.

Every day that you spend doing something that doesn’t fulfill you to your core, you’re living your life on pause. You’re deferring genuine family time with no guarantee that there will be a tomorrow or a someday. Some people follow that mentality their entire lives. We’ve chosen to never live that way again.

We appreciate you following our journey. The more our channel grows, the more time we can spend traveling to more locations, contributing to these cultures, highlighting local businesses, and sharing inspiring stories from these communities. So please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing so that you can stick with us for the long haul.

Necker Island/ British-Virgin-Islands (Caribbean)

Surrounded by the sparkling blue Caribbean sea of the British Virgin Islands, Necker Island exudes the elegance and lifestyle of the rich and famous. You can rent the whole island for yourself and your guests, staying in the Balinese style houses with your own pool and never-ending views to the sea. Virgin Atlantic owner Richard Branson purchased this previously uninhabited island between Tortola and Anegada in the late seventies. He has slowly developed several residences in addition to the main house, an airy Balinese Villa. A favourite with royalty, rock stars, and movie stars, Necker Island is the ultimate private getaway in the Caribbean.

Sir Richard Branson's Moskito Island

Are you looking to celebrate a special occasion in an estate on a private island?
If so, Moskito Island in the British Virgin Islands is an amazing spot for it! I recently returned from an educational trip at Sir Richard Branson's private islands, Moskito and Necker. Seclusion, turquoise water, magnificent views, delicious food, water sports, wonderful staff, tennis, exclusivity- Moskito Island checks all these boxes.

Here is a video of the highlights of my stay and a look at a few of the breathtaking estates on the island. Moskito Island is a 10-minute boat ride from Necker Island and close to Virgin Gorda. It is a great place for singles, couples and or families to come together for a celebration trip!

I wrote a blog post of my experience on the islands, You can read it here:

For any questions on Moskito Island, please contact Stefany at: stefany@largaytravel.com and or info@dmctraveltailor.com.

With passion and adventure,
Stefany

Respect 4: Anegada and Virgin Gorda - Day 5 + 6 in the BVI

Please watch in HD! (1080)

Check out our video map at:

Respect in the Virgin Islands 4 is the fourth installment to our catamaran sailing series where we charter a boat for 1 week in the British Virgin Islands. Typically we adventure in the US Virgin Islands as well during this annual excursion. The main video is coming to YouTube January 2nd, 2017.

Waking up in the bay at Setting Point of the island called Anegada, the swashbucklers made moves to Loblolly Beach to check out the fine scenery. Bringing the Phantom 3 Pro drone with them, they shot aerial footage of Loblolly Bay, Cow Wreck Beach and the bay where they had anchored the night before. With shotskis, painkillers, Red Stripe and more, they continued pillaging until the sun set where they got a nights rest to move on to Virgin Gorda early the next morning. They moored at Bitter End near the Bitter End Yacht Club where they enjoyed some of the finest wings in the world. During the day, the brothers hiked through the Baths south of Spanish Town to check out the granite rocks chiseled out along the trail to Devil's Bay. The next morning they set sail to move on towards Cooper Island in the Sir Francis Drake Channel.

BVI Beaches Rev2

Best Caribbean Beach - Spring Bay, Virgin Gorda BVI

Crystal and I have been to dozens, maybe over a hundred different Caribbean beaches. So when we say this might be the best beach in the Caribbean, that's saying something.

Spring Bay Beach on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands has everything you want, and nothing you don't. It's a true slice of pure exotic paradise. Located one bay north of the famous Baths on Virgin Gorda, Spring Bay is more secluded has it's only really accessible to guest of Guavaberry Spring Bay Resort and boaters. It's surrounded by huge granite boulders, has glowing blue water and a long strip of white sand. Much longer than the beach at the Baths. We went several times to Spring Bay during our week stay on Virgin Gorda and we were the only ones there the majority of the time. Absolute perfection.
