Andaman and Nicobar | Port Blair | Airport Landing [4K]
Veer Savarkar International Airport, also known as Port Blair Airport (IATA: IXZ, ICAO: VOPB), is a customs airport located 2 km (1.2 mi) south of Port Blair and is the main airport of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands of India. Originally known as Port Blair Airport, it was renamed in 2002 after the freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar who had been detained in the Cellular Jail in the city for 10 years.[4] It operates as a civil enclave, sharing airside facilities with INS Utkrosh of the Indian Navy
The passenger terminal has a capacity of 400 passengers. It covers an area of 6100 square metres.[7] There is only one terminal, with two gates and no aerobridges. Buses are used to provide transportation from the terminal to the aircraft parked on the apron. A new terminal will come up at the airport and will cover an area of 40,837 square metres. The terminal capacity will be 1200 max (1000 domestic and 200 international).[8] In 2009, construction work commenced to expand the apron.
As of 2019 there are no international flights from this airport. International flights are expected to start from July 2020.
A new terminal building is under construction and is scheduled for commissioning by June 2020. The AAI had initially projected a requirement of 26 acres of land for construction of the new terminal building. The local administration reduced it to almost 19 acres, 10.60 acres of which has been acquired from the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, 4.72 acres is from the Indian Navy, and the remaining 3.39 acres is yet to be acquired

Our plane is scheduled to land at Port Blair. Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which is a union territory of India. It is located in the Bay of Bengal. If you like to roam around the world then you must come here. Here all the beautiful forms of nature can be seen together. Panoramic mountains, rivers, beautiful beaches and waterfalls - all at once. You can see in this aerial view how beautiful this place is. Islands that are untouched. Some islands are restricted because primitive tribes live there. But the rest are open for tourists. Neil and Hablock are considered the most beautiful islands here. Ross Island carries the rich heritage of the British legacy since the time when India was under the British Rule. The North Bay Island gives an intensive feel of summer and sand. Panchavati Waterfalls is located on the Panchavati Hills and commands a unique and beautiful location. You may do scuba diving and other water sports in Andaman and see the amazing beauty of live corals. The historical Cellular Jail, also known as Kālā Pānī (Hindi for black waters), was a colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, India. The prison was used by the British for the express purpose of exiling political prisoners. Come to Andaman and feel intimacy with nature. The best time to visit here is during winters, when the temperature here is between 20 and 30. Hopefully you will enjoy coming here.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a union territory of India consisting of 572 islands, of which 38 are inhabited, at the junction of the Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea.
The Andaman Sea lies to the east and the Bay of Bengal to the west. The island chains are thought to be a submerged extension of the Arakan Mountains.
The Andaman Islands are also home to the Sentinelese people, an uncontacted tribe.
Rajendra Chola II (1051 to 1063 AD), used the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as a strategic naval base to launch an expedition against the Sriwijaya Empire (Indonesia). The Cholas called the island Ma-Nakkavaram (great open/naked land), found in the Thanjavur inscription of 1050 AD.
European traveller Marco Polo (12th–13th century) also referred to this island as 'Necuverann' and a corrupted form of the Tamil name Nakkavaram would have led to the modern name Nicobar during the British colonial period.
In 1789, the British set up a naval base and penal colony on Chatham Island next to Great Andaman, where now lies the town of Port Blair. Two years later the colony was moved to Port Cornwallis on Great Andaman, but it was abandoned in 1796 due to disease.
In 1858, the British again established a colony at Port Blair to set up a penal colony for criminal convicts from the Indian subcontinent. The Cellular Jail, which was used to house political prisoners, was constructed on Port Blair.
Andaman islands are known for their palm-lined, white-sand beaches, mangroves and tropical rainforests. Coral reefs supporting marine life such as sharks and rays and used for popular scuba diving and snorkeling sites.
Indigenous Andaman Islanders inhabit the more remote islands, many of which are off limits to visitors.
