Places to see in ( Wallington - UK )

Wallington is a town in the London Borough of Sutton, England, 10.3 miles south south-west of Charing Cross. Before the Municipal Borough of Beddington and Wallington merged into the London Borough of Sutton, it was part of the county of Surrey. Wallington is a post town in the SM postcode area. The town is home to three of the borough's five grammar schools. The London Borough of Sutton is a top performing borough for education in the country.

The name Wallington derives from the Anglo Saxon Waletone, meaning village of the Britons. Wallington appears in Domesday Book of 1086 and was held by William the Conqueror. Its domesday assets were: 11 hides. It had 2 mills worth £1 10s 0d, 11 ploughs, 8 acres (32,000 m2) of meadow. It rendered £10. The historic village was situated somewhat to the north of the current town centre around what is now Wallington Bridge over the River Wandle.

What was then called Carshalton railway station was opened in 1847 in the open fields to the south of Wallington because the owner of Carshalton Park objected to it being built near to Carshalton village. This acted as a spur to the development of the area and in the 1860s Nathaniel Bridges created a prestigious housing estate of gothic revival villas (architect E. L. Brock). To provide a church for the estate, Bridges sponsored the construction of Holy Trinity, and Wallington became a separate parish in 1867. The area around Holy Trinity Church is known as Wallington Old Town. In particular Clifton Road, Belmont Road and Park Road exhibit some imposing Victorian and Edwardian villas. This southward development continued towards Woodcote and by the time of the First World War the section of Woodcote Road to the south of the station had become the new High Street.

Wallington was an important centre for the production of lavender oil until about the time of the First World War. Lavender and herb growing were very prominent in the area in Victorian times and much earlier, and extensive fields of lavender were to be seen in the Carshalton, Beddington and Wallington areas. Lavender growing was a very prosperous part of the local agriculture hereabouts in the 19th and early 20th centuries. In Wallington the area to the north of the station was chiefly used. The scale of the operation can be understood from the fact that the Daily News in 1914 was able to state that at nearby Carshalton Beeches In every direction the low hill sides of the farm beyond Beeches Halt are swept with the bloomy pastel tint of the lavender flowers.

Since 2007 new retailers have opened in Wallington, including Tesco Express and Caffè Nero. These were in addition to existing retailers including Sainsbury's, Boots, W.H. Smith, Dorothy Perkins and Pizza Express, banks, estate agencies and building societies.
There have been two flats developments opposite the railway station, which were completed circa 2010 and 2013 respectively. More town centre flats in Shotfield Road were completed in 2015.
A farmers' market is held on the second Saturday of each month. This is usually located outside the old town hall, but occasionally in the car park at Shotfield.

Parks in the Wallington area include Mellows Park, Beddington Park and the Grange Gardens. The latter two, through which the River Wandle flows, lie in the north-east of the area, on the border with neighbouring Beddington. Beddington Park is nearly 100 acres in size and is maintained by the London Borough of Sutton. It was originally part of the Deer Park attached to Carew Manor, a grand country house built in the Tudor period, which stands to this day. It comprises a large area of open grassland with small clumps of trees, with an area of more formal gardens near the Grange restaurant, as well as a lake and pond. The main lake in the south west of the park was originally a mill pond. There are many paths and a number of ornamental bridges, which cross the stream which feeds the lake: this is part of the River Wandle, and the park is on the Wandle Trail. Part of the park is managed as a wildlife site.

10 Best Seaside Towns in the UK

What are the best seaside towns in the United Kingdom? New towns are developing at the seaside across the UK in addition to those ancient towns and cities. All of these towns and cities are worming their way into the hearts of tourists from home and abroad. With due respect to these towns, and out of a deep sense of duty, we want to identify which of these towns are the best so that we can help the decision-making process for those having reasons to consider seaside towns. On the basis of that, we present to you the 10 best seaside towns in the UK.
Please note that most of these best towns in the UK have at one time or the other been the best in England.
10. Swanage, Dorset, England
The tenth place we’ll consider as one the best seaside towns in the UK is Swanage in South West of England. The town has been a popular seaside resort since Victorian times. Up till now, families have continued to enjoy its calm shallow beach. This seaside is also one of the 10 best seaside resorts in the UK.
With its panoramic views, the seaside resort offers relaxing luxurious holidays in self-catering accommodation in caravans and luxury hot tub lodges. If you want to own a holiday home, they’re available here with unrivaled views across the bay. The town is about one kilometer from the leisurely beautiful Swanage Railway. Its proximity to this and other parks, beaches, and castles makes it a good choice.
9. St Davids, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Stepping out of England, we find a small city and community in Pembrokeshire known as St Davids. It is the smallest location in the whole of the United Kingdom with city status. With its stunning coastal scenery unmatched in Pembrokeshire, it’s also the smallest urban area by local authority boundary.
One of the reasons for its inclusion on this list is its ability to blend its sacred status with its National Park. St Davids has a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere as you see surf shops, outdoor adventure centers, holiday cottages, and hotels in the shadow of its cathedral.
8. Southwold, England
When this town was found in the ninth position on the list of the most popular seaside destinations, we knew that it would be among the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Now, it is the number 8 on this list. All year round, Southwold remains a tourist attraction, thanks to its dramatic coastline and beautiful architecture. Its cozy pub lunches and walks along its beach are charming.
As you walk along its pier, you will see spectacular views as you check in and out of many independent shops. You would love the charming seaside resort of Southwold. Though it’s almost an island, its sandy beach and hut-lined promenade offer a wonderful environment for holidaymakers and weekenders.
7. Filey, North Yorkshire, England
Ironically to some, Filey which is a town in the Borough of Scarborough considered unpopular by some people is one of the 10 best seaside towns in the UK. Truly, this beautiful seaside destination in North Yorkshire deserves a slot here as one of the most popular in the UK. It used to be a fishing village before developing into a popular resort with a very large beach that is playing a remarkable role in popularizing it.
It is quieter than most of its neighbors and most of the other coastal towns. This is because it has enough accommodations, seats, and transportation. There is no need for any rush here. You can just go there and enjoy your peace.

Wellington - City Video Guide

Wellington is the political, cultural and culinary capital of Aotearoa as the Māori call New Zealand. The compact city spills out of the mountains and overlooks Cook Strait.

In the world's southernmost capital fresh ocean winds seem to bring in waves of creativity. Civic Square is an eclectic mix of artworks and houses the elegant Town Hall, while Cuba Street is the place to go for shopping. The waterfront is dotted with craft beer bars and restaurants.

The country's cultural heritage is explained in the beloved Te Papa National Museum. Other good museums in Wellington are the Carter Observatory and the Museum of Wellington City and Sea. On the Miramar Peninsula, the Weta Workshop shows paraphernalia of famous Sir Peter Jackson movies, including Lord of the Rings and King Kong.

In Wellington's city center stand the neoclassical Parliament House and it executive wing, called the Beehive. From Lambton Quay, the iconic Wellington Cable Car leads to the Botanic Garden. Shuttle buses drop visitors off at Zealandia, a reserve for the region's unique flora and fauna.

Kia ora! Let Wellington be your stepping stone to both the North Island and the South Island of New Zealand.

4K OLD ROUNDSHAW WALLINGTON SOUTH LONDON.

Please like and subscribe if you like this video and want to see more old movies thankyou and stay safe. Havent seen any videos of old roundshaw,so i put this up for posterity, think wallington started to go downhill once the church was razed.
Same for roundshaw, the new one i dont like,i miss the old one,but things change,i put this up to remember a time were everyone got onmostlythere was NO culture of apologiseing about everything and anything?Don't erase the past?learn from it!!...
Not many cockneys left now, most are in essex.lol.
Roundshaw had a reputation and was hated by many, but i loved it,never had any hassle, except when had punk party with 100 punks annie anxiety. And the old bill showed up.
My point is LIFE IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT!.
Im retired now in a small fishing village ,all my 3 children have university degrees so i dont think im such a bad product of old roundshaw. its better to burn out, than fade away!..
MEMORIES OF ROUNDSHAW ESTATE.
Going to twedale school because, whats now amy johnson wasnt built.
Getting the slipper with fagbone my mate the only black kid on the estate,he put a book down his pants headmaster gave him double, this was infants school.
Watching as a 10 yearold dirty harry at the school whats now amy johnson and other films.
Going every week to all night kung fu at the odeon cinema in croydon, being the only white kid there, the black community was so nice to me,i miss my best mate who had go back to trinidad.
Walking across the lovely fields to work at fords doing robotics, even the industrial estate has been erased only thing left is my wifes bourjois works, sad ALOT less green now.
The star pub and the greyhound in croydon so many punk bands loved it.underground air raid shelters on the fields around roundshaw, that had to be filled in,a kid found a grenade there once.PC FREE DAYS.AND ALOT MORE GREEN THEN!!!
There are also old pictures of roundshaw in this old punk video,
The Roundshaw estate was built in 1965–7 and named after the park. The names of the estate’s streets – and some of its buildings – commemorate aviation companies, aircraft and individual pioneers associated with Croydon Airport.

Roundshaw’s first tenants came from within the borough but the Greater London Council later took responsibility for part of the estate, rehousing East Enders here. Although unpopular with its neighbours, Roundshaw was at first perceived as a ‘luxury estate’, with spacious accommodation and centrally supplied heating and hot water. Rents were relatively high.

5 New Jersey Sandwiches to Eat Before You Die | Condé Nast Traveler

New Jersey might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of the ideal foodie road trip—but that probably means you haven’t tried its sandwiches. Condé Nast Traveler editor, Mara Balagtas, takes us around the Garden State to try its famous sandwiches, from deep fried hot dogs at Rutt’s Hut to a roast beef, mozzarella, and gravy concoction at Fiore’s. Disclaimer: Do not watch on an empty stomach.

Transcript
I'm Mara Balagtas and...
I'm Francisco Balagtas.
We're about to eat.
Hi!
Good how are you?
[Male Employee] Good.
Can we get two Taylor ham egg and cheese sandwiches
on toasted everything bagels?
New Jersey Bagels are doughier
than New York Bagels.
We've probably been eating Taylor ham egg and cheese
our whole lives.
They also are great here for hangovers.
This is perfect.
The fat sandwich was like .
A lady she create the sandwich
and students here start to come up with the idea
about what it has.
One of the fat sandwiches
has a double cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato,
french fries, mayo, and ketchup.
All inside.
I haven't gotten to the meat of mine yet
but I can see that's gonna be my next bite.
So I have to say
this is delicious.
[Male Narrator] White Manna was introduced
at the World Fair .
It's very similar to White Castle.
These are the guys who did it first
and this is the more original experience.
So it's a little crowded in here
and we're gonna get some burgers to go
and eat in the car.
As simple as it is with just
a Martin potato roll and ground beef
and cheese and onions,
it just comes together.
So good.
We are headed to Clifton, New Jersey
to go to Rutt's Hut.
Famous for their hot dog sandwich called
The Ripper.
This is so good.
I think the crispness of the dog because of the fry,
you don't get that in a hot dog.
We are headed to our final stop, Hoboken.
We're going to Fiore's
and it's a very classic Italian deli.
Roast beef, fresh mozzarella
that they make in house and that they're pretty famous for.
We'll round it.
Have a taste of that.
Oh yes.
This is so good.
So good.
I don't even have words.
I mean I'm just...
