TOP 10 Francia Annecy cose da fare e vedere

#littletales #viaggi #annecy #francia#annecyfrance#annecylake#hautesavoie#frenchalps#annecymountains#lacannecy#tourismefrance#savoietourisme

Carcassonne, Pont Vieux to Medieval Citadel & Château Comtal, Rain Walk, Occitanie France 4K UHD

Carcassonne is a French fortified city in the department of Aude, in the region of Occitanie. Inhabited since the Neolithic, Carcassonne is located in the plain of the Aude between historic trade routes, linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif Central to the Pyrénées. Its strategic importance was quickly recognized by the Romans, who occupied its hilltop until the demise of the Western Roman Empire.

Its citadel, known as the Cité de Carcassonne, is a medieval fortress dating back to the Gallo-Roman period and restored by the theorist and architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc in 1853. It was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997 because of the exceptional preservation and restoration of the medieval citadel.

Let's take a walk from Pont Vieux to Château Comtal, Historic place in Carcassonne. Place Pont Vieux is 1.1 km away from Carcassonne Railway station (SNCF).

Pont Vieux Carcassonne: Typical medieval bridge from the 14th century. Until the 19th century, it was the only link between the Bastide Saint Louis and the Medieval City. Exclusively reserved for pedestrians, it allows quick access to the Medieval City. The stone bridge which replaced the feudal structure formerly built upstream, on the site of the Roman bridge, dates from the beginning of the 14th century. The work was in progress in 1315, it was hardly to be completed until around 1320.

Château Comtal: The Comtal Castle of Carcassonne was built largely in the 13th century, probably after the Treaty of Paris of 1229. Courtines and towers came to literally frame the former palace of the Viscounts of Carcassonne as well as the Sainte-Marie chapel. The Palais des Trencavel, which overlooked the Place de l'Orme, then became a royal fortification in the heart of the city. The castle, rectangular in shape, is separated from the city by a deep moat and defended by two barbicans, the barbican is turned towards the city while the western Barbican goes down to the edge of the Aude. The six towers are pierced with loopholes with stirrups; the curtain walls and the top of the towers can receive hoardings. Today, the fortified shirt of the castle supports a reconstruction of hoardings between the gate and the Major's tower.

St. Gimer's Church (St. Gimer's Church): It is one of the three churches designed by Viollet le Duc. Its construction lasted from 1849 to 1859. Its architecture is characterized by the Gothic vision of the famous architect. The Saint Gimer Church has been classified, like the City of Carcassonne, in the directory of protected sites as UNESCO World Heritage.

Porte de l'Aude: Gateway to the city and with a typically medieval appearance. Very picturesque route and magnificent viewpoint over the ramparts. To the west, the Porte d'Aude faces the river of the same name. It is located near the count's castle. This door is extended by the barbican of the Aude, partly destroyed in 1816 to build the Saint-Gimer church. Only the ramp surrounded by crenellated walls remains. This door, with a typically medieval appearance, has served as the backdrop for many film shoots such as The Visitors, Robin des Bois: Prince of Thieves or Le Corniaud.

Chateau d'If + Frioul Island / MARSEILLES, FRANCE

While in Marseilles, we visited the famous Chateau d'If island prison which was at the home to the fictional character in the book, The Count of Monte Cristo.

You can take the ferry to the island but to visit Frioul islands, you have to pay extra.

I would recommend doing both islands.

The Cité de Carcassonne:
The Cité de Carcassonne is a medieval citadel located in the French city of Carcassonne, in the Aude department, Occitanie region. Mass every Sunday at 11 a.m. The first authentic deed mentioning this church dates from 925. In 1096 Pope Urbain II came to Carcassonne and blessed the stones of Saint-Nazaire and Saint Celse Cathedral. The building was completed in the first half of the 12th century. Redesigned several times, it lost its cathedral status in 1801 in favor of the Saint-Michel church located in the Bastide. In 1898 it received the title of Basilica granted by Pope Leo XIII.

Weekend in Marseille ????

Our trip to Marseille was one of the first ones right after the spring lockdown was lifted in France. And to say that we loved the city is to say nothing. We are aware of its reputation, but have to say that we personally felt very safe - and welcome - when walking there!

The city is very old and has a very rich history. And, on top of that, it is located in a very picturesque area, very close to Calanques, and right on the Mediterranean coast.

A lot of places were still closed at the time when we went to Marseille, and we couldn't visit its museums and forts. But that gives one more reason to get back! :)

And, as usual, a quote from Wiki:

Marseille is the prefecture of the Bouches-du-Rhône department and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in France. Situated in the Provence historical province, it is located on the coast of the Gulf of Lion, part of the Mediterranean Sea, near the mouth of the Rhône. Marseille is the second-largest city in France, covering an area of 241 km2 (93 sq mi); it had a population of 870,018 in 2016.[4] Its metropolitan area, which extends over 3,174 km2 (1,225 sq mi), is the third-largest in France after those of Paris and Lyon, with a population of 1,760,653 as of 2017,[3] or 3,100,329 (2019) by the broader Eurostat definition of metropolitan region.[5] Its inhabitants are called Marseillais.

Founded around 599 BC by Greek settlers from Phocaea, Marseille is the oldest city of France, as well as one of Europe's oldest continuously inhabited settlements.[6][7] It was known to the ancient Greeks as Massalia (Greek: Μασσαλία, romanized: Massalía) and to Romans as Massilia.[6][8] Marseille has been a trading port since ancient times. In particular, it experienced a considerable commercial boom during the colonial period and especially during the 19th century, becoming a prosperous industrial and trading city. Nowadays the Old Port still lies at the heart of the city where the manufacturing of soap, its famous savon de Marseille, began some 6 centuries ago. Overlooking the port is the Basilica of Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde or Bonne-mère for the people of Marseille, a Romano-Byzantine church and the symbol of the city. Inherited from this past, the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille (GPMM) and the maritime economy are major poles of regional and national activity and Marseille remains the first French port, the second Mediterranean port and the fifth European port.[9] Since its origins, Marseille's openness to the Mediterranean Sea has made it a cosmopolitan city marked by cultural and economic exchanges with Southern Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia. In Europe, the city has the third largest Jewish community after London and Paris.[10]

In the 1990s, the Euroméditerranée project for economic development and urban renewal was launched. New infrastructures and renovations were carried out in the 2000s and 2010s: the tramway, the renovation of the Hôtel-Dieu into a luxury hotel, the expansion of the Velodrome Stadium, the CMA CGM Tower, as well as other quayside museums such as the Museum of Civilisations of Europe and the Mediterranean (MuCEM). As a result, Marseille now has the most museums in France after Paris. The city was named European Capital of Culture in 2013 and European Capital of Sport in 2017. Additionally, Marseille hosted matches at the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2016. It is also home to several higher education institutions in the region, including the University of Aix-Marseille.

South of France Video Tour: Marseille, Part 1

Marseille is the second-largest city in France, after Paris, boasting a population of 850,000. Historically, it was the most important trade center in the region and functioned as the main trading port for the French empire. Learn more about the history of Marseille here. This city is currently the largest commercial port in France, and is the largest city on the southern French coast of the Mediterranean. Located between Montpellier and Nice, Marseille is also the capital of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. It has a Mediterranean climate with mild, humid winters and warm to hot, mostly dry summers. Marseille has a vast public transportation system involving trams, metro, and busses, all under an easy ticketing system. There is also a very sophisticated bike rental system, which many argue is the best way to see the city. Residents of Marseille are known as Marseillais.

This article is the first part of a two-part series featuring Marseille; in it you will learn about some of the most popular destinations in town.

Vieux-Port

Vieux-Port, meaning “old port” in English, is the top destination in Marseille for tourists. If you’re only in town for a couple days and want to see everything, this is where you should start. It is often cited as the place where civilization began, as it was the site of one of the first Greek settlements in 600 B.C. By 2013 Marseille had transformed this section of the city into a mainly pedestrian area, making it easier for tourists and locals to experience the old port as it had been in centuries past. The Vieux-Port as well as the Chateau d’If was featured in Alexandre Dumas’s landmark work, The Count of Monte Cristo. In its heyday in 1854, the Old Port had a capacity of between 1,000 and 1,200 ships, and roughly 18,000 ships per year. It lost relevance with the popularity of steamships, as its 6 meter depth was too shallow for the ships to enter. The entire region was devastated by the Nazi incursion in 1943, but in 1948, Fernand Pouillon was put in charge of reconstructing what you see today.

Nowadays, the Vieux-Port is well-known for its diverse markets and hand-crafted souvenirs. For a look at what is essentially the “new port” in Marseille, check on the Grand Port Maritime de Marseille further north-west.

Museums in Marseille

Marseille is also known for its astonishing selection of museums. Although we discuss a few in this video, make sure to check out the rest on your next trip. You’ll find the Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilizations on the north side of the port. This museum features a fascinating comparison on all aspects of Mediterranean cultures. It takes a historical perspective on the development of Marseille and is a great showcase for the evolution of the south of France. Another great museum is the Marine and Economy Museum, which is dedicated entirely to sea trade, especially the role Marseille played in the expansion of European sea trade.
The Marseille Town Hall, while not precisely a museum, is a spectacular example of seventeenth century architecture. It has been a meeting place for the city’s council since the Middle Ages. Other architectural examples include the St. Nicholas Fort and the St. Jean Fort at the mouth of the Vieux-Port. The St. Nicholas Fort is famous for its great views of the port, and both forts were built by King Louis XIV following a revolt against their governor by the citizens of Marseille.

Staying in Marseille

While you won’t be able to stay in a fort, New York Habitat has a diverse range of accommodation available for every budget and style. Booking a New York Habitat apartment is the best way to experience Marseille like a local. If you’re only in town for a few days or weeks, consider booking one of our vacation rental apartments in Marseille. If you’re looking for more long term or permanent Marseille apartment options, this list is a great place to start.
