We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

⚡️ For all travel guides of Russia -

Russia was the last trip I did in 2017. I spent three weeks traveling from city to city in the rainy and gloomy weather of Russia. As you know, by November, Russia is approaching winter and the weather can be quite unpredictable as it was for me.

Instead of dwelling on bad weather, I decided to go out and captured the cities of Russia as it is while taking advantage of the approaching winter and went up to the Arctic Circle to witness the northern lights. It was probably one of the cheapest places in the world to do so.

After Murmansk, I went down and spent a week each in St Petersburg and Moscow to capture the Life Out of Balance of Russian cities. If that phrase is familiar to you, then you know where I drew my inspiration. Yes, you are not mistaken. This video is inspired by the great documentary, Koyaanisqatsi directed by Godfrey Reggio, and released in 1982.

Koyaanisqatsi is a word from the Hopi language which translates to Life Out of Balance. Watching the documentary is a psychedelic trip in itself. The documentary consisted of several collections of fast-moving timelapse and hyperlapse footage showing the fast-pace city life of the 1980s.

There is no narration in the documentary, only stunning visual and the heart-pounding eerily music by Philip Glass that transcended the storytelling of words and tell its story through the sound. It's one of my favorite experimental documentaries and I highly recommend you watch it.

Funny enough I actually took all these footage before I even watched the documentary. I'm quite surprised that I was able to incorporate the concept into this travel video, Russia Hour, all without a plan.

The video is full of timelapse, hyperlapse, and slow-motion footage of Russian cityscapes and the people living in it hence why I called this video, Russia Hour. Get it? Russia Hour is equal to Rush Hour and if you watched the video, you will feel like the video is almost always shot during rush hours.

Timelapse travel videos is something I don't usually do for my travel videos, that is why I decided to experiment on it so I hope you like the change of pace here.

Clarification: The driving night lapse from 2:25 - 2:28 is a stock footage (somewhere in the US, I was told) from Videezy.com. I wanted to replicate the same fast-moving feel of car lapses from Koyaanisqatsi but I didn't have my own footage so I had to rely on a stock footage instead.

Location: Murmansk, Saint Petersburg, and Moscow

Christmas in St. Petersburg Russia 2019 | JGY Studios Travel Vlog

My wife and I spent our Christmas in St. Petersburg as it is said to be one of the best places to spend Christmas.

Monastery of the Caves | Kyiv Pechersk Lavra ????????

Today I visit Pechersk Lavra in Kyiv, in English Monastery of the Caves. Minus 15 degrees Celsius (5 Fahrenheit), lots of snow, beautiful sights and a 360 degrees view from the tower.

At the time of its construction, this was the tallest freestanding tower in the world. You must check this out, right? Some of you wrote me that I don't interact enough with the locals. Well, watch the video until the end and you'll see me having a beer with a friendly local and getting a bit lost in translation there. Haha!

WHAT THE LOCALS DO IN TALLINN ESTONIA - BALTIC PLUNGE! Exploring Port Noblessner by the sea!

In this VLOG we head outside of Tallinn Old Town and the usual tourist hotspots to explore the Kalamaja area and Port Noblessner in particular, which is a great spot to sit outside by the water’s edge at one of the restaurants or café’s with a coffee or lunch and watch the boats coming in and out of harbour.

We begin to really embrace the local culture as Craig decides to do as the locals do and take on the Baltic plunge! It may look sunny but the air temperature is still only about 8*C and the water temperature around 2*C! …Refreshing!

As we get nearer to the 100-subscriber mark, it may be time for us to both celebrate the Baltic way!

*Although Tallinn is in lockdown due to Covid-19, there is still freedom to be outside just as long as we all follow social distancing rules.
