A walk in the Calanques of La Ciotat - South of France
It's a 10km walk in La Ciotat - the calanques Mugel and Figuerolles. I did it on Sunday after 15h and it was good to see the sunset from the last point at Chapelle Notre-Dame de la Garde, but the calanques are better in the morning, I refilmed them on other day.

Cassis ???????? TRAVEL GUIDE | Exploring the South of France for the FIRST TIME!
This was my first trip to the south of France and after spending a day in Marseille, my friends and I headed to Cassis where you sat in the sunshine at the port, took boat trips out to the Calanques, and hiked through Parc national des Calanques or the Calanques National Park. We also visited the Cassis Market, walked the back streets of this Provencal town, and drank local wine while getting sunburn in February!

La Ciotat is a town on the French Mediterranean coast. At its southern end, the Parc du Mugel botanical garden features tropical plants, pebble beaches and playgrounds. The large Ciotaden Museum, located among the cafes and bars of the restored Old Port district, has exhibits on the history of shipbuilding in the city and the invention of pétanque. Places to see in ( La Ciotat - France )
La Ciotat is a town on France’s Mediterranean coast. At its southern tip, the Parc du Mugel botanical garden encompasses tropical plants, pebble beaches and play areas. The grand Musée Ciotaden, amid the cafes and bars of the regenerated Old Port area, features exhibitions on the town’s shipbuilding history and the invention of the game of pétanque. Just north is the Eden Theater, the world's oldest operating cinema.
The Provençal harbour town of La Ciotat is bordered by the mighty seascapes of the Calanques National Park. The scenery is out of this world, whether you see it by car on a twisting coastal road or from below on a sea cruise. The town also has a calmer side where there’s a string of welcoming sandy beaches.
And for an idea of how Provençal La Ciotat is, they even wrote the rules on the iconic game of pétanque here. And that isn’t the only point of pride for the town, as it was a summer home for film pioneers the Lumière Brothers. They shot one of their earliest movies in La Ciotat, and the cinema where they screened it still shows films to this day.

La Ciotat is called La Ciutat or La Ciéutat or Cióutat in Occitan/Provençal/Catalan, meaning the city. It became prominent in the 15th century. La Ciotat was the setting of one of the very first projected motion pictures, L'Arrivée d'un train en gare de La Ciotat filmed by the Lumière brothers in 1895.
Most parts of La Ciotat are covered by its public transport bus service. Although buses are not very frequent, given the small population of the city they serve their purpose. The train station is serviced by route no. 10, 21 and 40 which all go to the La Ciotat downtown station by different routes. Peak time of bus operations are from 8am to 5pm when people are working in the uptown offices of La Ciotat. After 8pm, buses cease their operation. Same is the case on weekends when buses are rare even at the train station.
La Ciotat has an artificial sand beach because of its rocky location. The beach is located downtown and is at walking distance from local market, the ship yards and the main bus station. The beach faces the Alps mountain regions on one side and the uphill commercial area on the other side. Most hotels, restaurants and bars in La Ciotat are located on the same street.

CITY HISTORY:
La Ciotat Land of history... Men have always been attracted and retained by the protective haven of the Gulf of La Ciotat. The excavations of Ellianac and the cave of Terrevaine attest to a human presence with the establishment of sedentary tribes in the final Neolithic period (3000 – 2000 BC). It is estimated that the installation of the first settlement on the maritime route of ancient navigators dates back to the 5th century BC. The charter of 1429 explains how La Ciotat became
a commune.
INVENTIONS :
LA CIOTAT CRADLE OF CINEMA - During the summer of 1895, taking advantage of the family stay at the Palais Lumière built in La Ciotat, Louis Lumière perfected the cinematograph and began to shoot some thirty films among the first in the history of cinema: The train entering the station at La Ciotat, The sprinkler sprinkled, Childish Quarrel. The first public screening took place in the Grand Salon of the Palais Lumière on September 21, 1895 (a few weeks before Paris…) and made La Ciotat the true cradle of cinema. Every year since 1981, the Festival of the first French-speaking film of La Ciotat Berceau du Cinéma perpetuates this considerable event. Find all the information about the Eden-Théâtre Cinema.
Birth of Petanque
It was in 1910 that petanque was born in La Ciotat, at the Jeu de Boules Béraud operated by the Pitiot brothers.
Indeed, the great players of the Provençal game of the region met at the Jeu de Boules Béraud.
Spectators were authorized for 0.05 Francs to take chairs to attend the games, but as they often stopped the balls drawn because they did not get up quickly enough, the players demanded the removal of the chairs: which was done.
Jules Le Noir, a shopkeeper from La Ciotat, crippled with rheumatism, was authorized to have a chair on condition that he remained in a circle drawn on the ground.
Sitting, Jules Le Noir had fun shooting at 1.50 or 2 meters.
One day, to please him, Monsieur Pitiot suggested that he play a game “les pieds tanqués” which meant his feet glued to the ground.
This is how the game les pieds tanqués was born, which became petanque.

La Ciotat est l'une des destinations les plus populaires auprès des touristes, surtout en été. Cette fois-ci, on est venus en janvier et il faisait beau, donc il y avait beaucoup de gens qui profitaient du soleil sur les terrasses.
La Ciotat est une ville située en bord de mer, mais les rues sont également jolies et on aime se promener dans les ruelles. On a pu aller dans un café où nous avons déjeuné et dans un autre, ce qui m'a fait très plaisir car j'adore le café.

La Ciotat est une commune française située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône en région Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, à 31 kilomètres à l'est de Marseille. Ses habitants sont appelés les Ciotadens et les Ciotadennes. La Ciotat est l'une des deux seules communes, avec Ceyreste, à être située dans le département des Bouches-du-Rhône tout en appartenant à l'unité urbaine de Toulon.
La population de la ville de La Ciotat comptabilise un nombre de 36 441 habitants.
