I Went On Maharashtra's 80° Vertically Inclined Trek At Harihar Fort In Nashik | Curly Tales
Love adventure & hiking? Curly Tales Chief Travelling Officer, Kamiya Jani takes you on a trekking trail to one of Maharashtra's most challenging treks, The Harihar Fort which is located 40kms away from Nashik City & 3,600 ft above sea level. It is considered to be one of the most challenging treks because of its vertical staircase which is almost 80 °. The trek is divided in two parts, base village to the plateau & from the plateau to the top. This trek is best enjoyed when the sunlight is low with some pleasant wind. The trek is quite challenging but once you reach the top, the view will surely make everything worth it. Let us know if you would like to trek up the Harihar Fort as well?

Top 10 trekking places in India
Trekking in India started when the land was inhabited in prehistoric times. There are perhaps as many trekking routes in India as there are Indians. It was in the 1970’s and 1980’s that trekking started gaining in popularity as a recreational/adventure sport. A number of religious sites and shrines across the country, especially in Jammu and Kashmir, and in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand – such as Badrinath, Amarnath, Gangotri, Hemkund, Joshimath, Kedarnath, Vaishno Devi and Yamunotri – entail trekking for a couple of days in the mountains. Trekking in India has grown in leaps and bounds and the current trekking scenario is very promising, with thousands of Indians and foreigners hitting trekking trails each year.
What India can boast of is some of the most stunning trekking routes in the world – many of the mountain passes in the Ladakh and Zanskar Himalayas are above 5000m. But there are plenty of gentler and smaller trails, at different altitudes, both in the mountains and in the forests. If you’re looking for less arduous hikes, you’ll find plenty in in the Western Ghats and the Nilgiri Hills of south India (Munnar and Wayanad in Kerala, Coorg in Karnataka, and around Ooty in Tamil Nadu).

The ideal time for you to start the trek would be around 10 in the morning and reach the top of the fort by 1 pm, explore the fort for a while and then descend before the sunset.
The exciting part about this trek is that to reach to the fort you have to go through a rock-cut staircase at a staggering height of 2,000 ft.

Harihar fort also known as Harshagad is a fort located 48 km from Igatpuri, Nashik district, of Maharashtra. It is an important fort in Nashik district, and was constructed to look upon the trade route through Gonda Ghat. It receives many visitors because of its peculiar rock-cut steps.
There are two base villages of the fort, Harshewadi and Nirgudpada. Climbing from harshewadi is easier than the nirgudpada village till we reach a scarp.
