Exploring an NBA Player's Abandoned Mansion | Chicago

This video was a bit rushed due to workers being present.

Asked for permission to explore here as there were workers here for remodeling. Occasionally I had to make awkward turns to avoid them so I didn't record them.

This now abandoned mansion was Ken Norman's in Flossmoor, near homewood, south of Chicago. He lost the house due to foreclosure. The property has recently been brought and is now undergoing remodeling.

Ken Norman played basketball at the University of Illinois then played for 10 years in the NBA as a small forward. He played 6 seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers and also played for the Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks. In his NBA career he averaged 13.5 points per game, 6 rebounds per game, and 2 assists per game.

Small in acreage but big on character, Longwood Manor is home to some of the most historic houses on Chicago's south side. Like its neighboring communities of Brainerd and Washington Heights, Longwood Manor built an identity based on working-class traditions tied to the once-thriving railroad industry and an immigrant past that still defines much of the area's legacy to this day.

Riverdale is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 13,549 at the 2010 census. The village shares its name with the bordering Riverdale neighborhood in Chicago.

Hazel Crest is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,100 at the 2010 census. Hazel Crest was first settled in 1870 in a farming community known as South Harvey. An enterprising newspaper editor named William McClintock moved here from Ohio in 1890, buying 80 acres (320,000 m2) from farmer Fred Puhrman.
McClintock built a depot for a local milk train and subsequently opened transportation opportunities to Chicago and beyond. The depot also served as the area's first real estate office, public meeting place, Sunday school, day school, and post office.
In 1900, the name was changed to Hazel Crest to reflect the large numbers of hazelnut bushes that grew on a rise of land just south of town. At the time, the southern border was 175th Street and the western edge of the village was Kedzie Avenue.
Hazel Crest was incorporated in 1912. Many of the families of the early residents still live in the village.
Over the years, significant developments have occurred because groups of residents joined together for common goals. Examples of this spirit range from the construction of the Community Church in 1894 to the 1984 adaptation of an elementary school building which has now become the Martin J. Kauchak Municipal Center, named for President Kauchak who served the village for twenty years (1973-1993).
Successive village presidents have been:
Dr Sol J. Rocke (1993-2001), Bill Browne (2001-2005), Dr Robert B. Donaldson (2005-2013) and Vernard L. Alsberry Jr. (2013–present)

Markham is a city and a south suburb of Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,508 at the 2010 census. It is claimed this area was beach 10,000 years ago. After countless ages of geologic swamps, marshes and sloughs, the prairies dominated the landscape with groves of trees, flowers, and wildlife in abundance.

Markham, southwest of the southern tip of Lake Michigan, had been a crossroad for early pioneers. In 1816 a treaty was made with the Ottawa, Chippewa and Potawatomi tribes which ceded a corridor of land located between a point north of the Chicago River and the mouth of the Calumet River to the settlers. The southern boundary, one of two Indian Treaty Boundary Lines, was surveyed along a line from the Kankakee River to Lake Michigan. The line still appears on government maps and now includes a short portion of Interstate 57 near the US 6 interchange northwest of Markham. The village of Markham was incorporated in 1925 with a population under 300. The village was named for Charles H. Markham, president of the Illinois Central Railroad 1911–1918, 1919–1926. In the mid-1930s, the Croissant Park subdivision was built and increased the population from 349 to 1,388. After World War II, Markham's population doubled to 2,753 residents by 1950. The village developed into a bedroom community as residents sought homes, not industry. An airport developed at 165th Street and Kedzie Avenue was the nearest field outside of Chicago. The airport site was located near what is now the Cook County Sixth Circuit Courthouse. On August 24, 1967, Markham was incorporated as a city.In 2017, Roger Agpawa was elected mayor. He had previously served as fire chief in neighboring Country Club Hills. Having been convicted in 1999 of felony mail fraud in a federal health insurance case, he is one of the first convicted felons to have been elected mayor. Experts state that he would have been ineligible to serve in the highest office in that city, despite being sworn in as mayor in October 2018 after an 18-month legal battle.

The Loop, one of Chicago's 77 designated community areas, is the central business district of the city and is the main section of Downtown Chicago. Home to Chicago's commercial core, it is the second largest commercial business district in North America and contains the headquarters and regional offices of several global and national businesses, retail establishments, restaurants, hotels, and theaters, as well as many of Chicago's most famous attractions. It is home to Chicago's City Hall, the seat of Cook County, and numerous offices of other levels of government and consulates of foreign nations. In it, at the intersection of State Street and Madison Street, is the origin of Chicago's street grid addresses, established in 1909. Most of Grant Park's 319 acres (1.29 km2) are in the eastern section of the community area. The Loop community area is bounded on the north and west by the Chicago River, on the east by Lake Michigan, and on the south by Roosevelt Road, although the commercial core has greatly expanded into adjacent community areas.
