Here are 10 of the strangest facts about China!

10 - Counterfeit everything
Nobody can do imitation like China. Knockoff smartphones, designer clothing, and luxury handbags are only part of the counterfeit business. In recent years, mainland China's copycat profiteers moved into the business of counterfeiting ENTIRE shops and brand identities! In 2011, a fake Apple store popped up in the southwestern city of Kunming. It looked so authentic, some employees even thought it was real! In 2015, the police shut down a fake bank in the eastern city of Nanjing, where depositors reportedly lost nearly $33 million dollars. The fake bank looked exactly like a real one complete with security guards, computers, ATMs. In 2014, Hong Kong restaurateur Yenn Wong got a surprise one morning. The co-founder of popular Hong Kong restaurant Chachawan Isaan Thai and Bar woke up and found a second Chachawan restaurant in Shanghai that completely copied her restaurant! Chachawan's Facebook page was filled with enthusiastic inquiries asking if the shop had opened a new branch in Shanghai. The Shanghai Chachawan had the same exterior look and feel as the Hong Kong shop, and even the menu, focusing on northeastern Thai, or Isaan cuisine, looked the exact same. As it turned out, the owners of the fake Chachawan expressed interest in taking the concept to the mainland but their idea was refused. But that didn’t discourage them in the slightest!

9 - Panda Panda Panda Panda
Panda diplomacy is China's use of giant pandas as diplomatic gifts to other countries. The practice existed as far back as the Tang Dynasty when Empress Wu Zetian sent a pair of pandas to the Japanese emperor. BUT the panda diplomacy comes with a twist.
Actually, China is the owner of all the pandas in the world – even if they give it away as a gift! Well, almost. But I’ll get to that in a minute. In fact, if you happen to see a panda outside the country, that’s because it’s on loan! China even owns all future offspring of all pandas! Over the past 15 years, every time China has sent a panda to a foreign zoo, they’ve required an agreement with the receiving country. According to the contract, the pandas belong to China and so do any of their offspring. If there are any offspring, they must be returned to China before they turn four years old. The contract also expressly forbids panda cloning research! However, there are two pandas which are owned by Mexico; Xin Xin and Shuan Shuan. This was before China implemented the “I own all the pandas” policy. But, Mexico has agreed that if these pandas have any offspring, they will belong to China. You know what. I’m adopting this policy for all the gifts I give!!!!

8 - Cave dwellers
Did you know, there are currently 30 million people in China who live in caves?! That’s the equivalent to the entire populations of Australia and New Zealand combined! The craziest part? Most of those 30 million people LOVE their living arrangements – the majority of these caves are bigger, nicer, and quieter than a lot of Beijing’s apartments!
The majority of China’s cave dwellers live in Shaanxi province, where the porous soil and limestone cliffs make for easy excavation. Most have electricity, many have plumbing, and some come with multiple rooms and a lawn too! More importantly, in a country where people still earn low wages, you can rent a big cave for about $30 a month or in some cases, you can just make your own and live completely for free. The earth that surrounds the indoor space serves as an effective insulator keeping the inside of the structure warm in cold seasons and cool in hot seasons. Very little heating is required during the winter, and during the summer, these caves are supposedly as cool as an air-conditioned room. In the last decade, these cave dwellings have been brought to the attention of scientists and researchers and have been regarded as an example of sustainable design. Hey, I can’t say it’s a bad thing.

[4K] Walking through Binsheng St - Dongsheng St - Jiangjun Street (Chengdu China 2021)

Bin Sheng Street, named Bin Sheng Alley in the Qing Dynasty. After the founding of New China, thick layers of cultural deposits from the Tang Dynasty, such as coins like Kaiyuan Tongbao, were found in the infrastructure works of Bin Sheng Street, which is estimated to be the commercial area of the south market in the Tang Dynasty. In 1903, during the wave of implementing the New Policy at the end of Qing Dynasty, one of the earliest new-style schools in Chengdu at that time, the Third Elementary School, was established at the east entrance of the street.

Jiangjun Street, which is connected to Dongchenggen Up Street in the east and Changshun Up Street in the west, was once a Yongan Alley in Manchu Town during the Qing Dynasty. It is said that the name, Jiangjun (means 'General' in Chinese) Street, was taken by General Yang Sen. Speaking of Yang Sen, you may be more familiar with his order to build the Chunxi Road, and the Jiangjun Street is also named by him.

Jiangjun Street used to be called not only Yong'an Alley, but also 'Kitty Alley'. At the entrance of the street stood a stone pillar in the shape of a tiger's head, because the people of Chengdu have a taboo - fear of tigers, and the legend is that at the end of the Ming Dynasty, Chengdu had a sensational 'tiger infestation'. It is said that when Zhang Xianzhong massacred Sichuan, he almost wiped out the population of Chengdu, and there were tigers sneaking into the city from time to time to eat people. This was the reason why the people of Chengdu were so squeamish about tigers.

Boatou to Dongsheng Line

This is another revised and extended upload of Steam in China 2000.
The line from Baotou to Dengsheng passes through a desert area called Singing Sands with a viaduct clinging to the cliff edge. Coal trains from the mine at Dongsheng were worked by QJ class 2-10-2 steam locomotives. On the 3,500 tonne coal trains a pair of QJs double headed the train with a single QJ banking at the rear. Single QJs were in charge of the passenger trains.

[4K] Riding Bike through Renhou St - Guihua Lane - Binsheng Street (Chengdu China 2021)

Renhou Street, Guihua Lane, Binsheng Street, these three streets belong to the centipede feet on both sides of Shuncheng Street. They are not long and quiet, but there are many tasteful bookstores and cafes hidden in here. Although Chengdu is developing at a fast pace, these small streets and alleys are still holding on to the flavor of the old city. And with the explosion of social networks, the emotional value of the area is being rediscovered.

World's LARGEST Ghost City: China

Ordos, China. The most beautiful place that no one lives in. Follow me on my trip through one of the world's LARGEST ghost cities.

Like, Comment, and Subscribe for more!

What are ghost cities? Due to the expanding economy of China, there's been a huge increase in the number of houses being built there. However, due to many circumstances such as the cost of buying these new houses, the location of the houses, and other social and political factors, many of these developments never become inhabited.

Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China, is one of - if not the largest - ghost cities in the world. Population estimates conflict depending on the source, but currently somewhere between 20,000 -100,000 people live there. It was built for over 1 million residents. To quickly correct something in the video though: Ordos and Dongsheng are the same city. The abandoned part is called the Kangbashi District, whereas the older part of Ordos is referred to as Dongsheng, and is located 25 km from the new part.

Despite that it's empty, Ordos itself is beautiful, modern, and very clean. The people there are friendly, they hold onto rich cultural traditions, and they are just waiting for more neighbors to join them.
