What is Ohkunojima?
An uninhabited island belonging to Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture
It takes about 15 minutes by boat from Chukai Port. It has a circumference of approximately 4 km.
It was once called the island erased from the map because of a poison gas factory. Currently, about 500 to 600 rabbits inhabit the island.

Chestnuts remain a good source of antioxidants, even after cooking. They're rich in gallic acid and ellagic acid—two antioxidants that increase in concentration when cooked. Antioxidants and minerals like magnesium and potassium help reduce your risk of cardiovascular issues, such as heart disease or stroke.
Chestnuts are a unique fruit of the Castanea species of deciduous trees. This fruit is most common in Asia though it has also been linked to the traditional Italian cuisine for centuries. Chestnuts are appreciated for their characteristic taste and for the ductility with which they can be consumed: boiled, roasted, and dried, or in the form of jam or flour. They are also excellent sources of vitamins and minerals (such as manganese, molybdenum, cooper and magnesium).

A slowly disappearing trade is the manually sand fried chestnut street vendor. The process is painstaking as each chestnut is slit with a knife and sorted by size before being fried in sand with sugar and caramel. The result is a perfectly cooked chestnut!
The stall is at the corner of Jalan Penang Road and Jalan Chowrasta Road.
